This branch is a charity shop with some cracking merchandise on sale. The charity shop offers free uplift for any old items you may want to give away. Gorbals Recycles aims to prevent land fill by recycling people's old furniture, brick-a-brac etc. They sell really good quality items and clean everything brought into the shop. The volunteers steam clean and tag the garments in the back shop. The shop is although in the city centre is a bit hidden away. It's located at the bottom of Saltmarket near to the high court. It's not got a lot of passing trade hence why I thought I should Yelp this project. Gorbals recycles supports volunteers and unemployed trying to get back into work. It's an excellent project and deserves lots of support. The shop is in a lovely spot where Glasgow Green is just over the road, so if you're ever swinging by to Glasgow Green swing by Market on the Green.

This little social enterprise is primarily manned by volunteers they supply a great selection of new wood based products from fence posts and decking to Osb and plywood. In addition they are a sort of urban reclamation yard with doors, windows, ceiling tiles even bathroom suits. This is the sort of place you need to visit with and empty car if you are any sort of maker. To top it off there are some amazing wooden and reclaimed furniture and structures. I couldn't name what the do and don't have you just need to go along and dig around. However if you are looking for wood diy supplies this is your place to go. Great prices and an even better ethos.

Ooh I forgot, they also have a sweetie counter, I just had to buy me some 10p mix ups. Yum! They had some cracking deals with wardrobes and sofas from £20. Not a lot of items stay there too long, while I was there, a chair was sold and the Gorbals Recycles luton truck turned up in which they were bringing in items as fast as they were taking out. Stock is replenished frequently due to the great bargains they have on offer. The shop is immaculately clean, you can tell it's well looked after. It's a warm and friendly place, equal to their partner shops in town and in the Gorbals. It's such a great project and everyone I've met on the project has been really helpful. Gorbals Recycles supports it's volunteers which you can tell and they also support unemployed trying to get back into work. They also try to prevent land fill through recycling many various items that people no longer want or need. New to You also has some of the bicycles from the Gorbals shop on sale, they said many have taken an interest since they put them on display. This shop is situated in a cracking location in Partick, on the Dumbarton Road line of great charity shops. It's also a hop, skip and a jump from Partick train/subway/bus station. There's also plenty of buses that pass by. It's an ideal spot so I would definitely check what stock they've got, whatever's in the window goes pretty quickly so I'd get in there quick.

So, if you need storage, read on. Safestore is easy to get to from the M8 and is right next to Glasgow Caledonian University - very handy for me with being at the Arc so often. I've visited 6 times now and have had reason to chat to the staff most times due to a mix up with billing and them putting an overlock on the locker. That being said, they still get 4 stars as this has now been resolved and the staff are consistently excellent to deal with. For example, I visited at 6pm and didn't realise that at this time the building is technically closed, although you can get in if you have 24 hour access. My key fob wasn't working so I was about to give up, but thankfully someone appeared out of the dark (in a non-creepy way), popped back inside, fired up the computer and fixed up my access. I really appreciated it as it meant I could actually get into the locker and pick up the gloves for that night's event! So, all of you with toasty warm Yelp-gloved hands can help the lovely chap at Safestore! Other good things - they have a customer toilet, there is lots of parking, there are trolleys for you to cart you things to and fro so you don't need to make lots of trips, there is automatic lights on each floor so you don't have to be worried if you're afraid of the dark (like I am). I'm constantly washing duvets roughly every two weeks and the machines here are perfect for washing larger items such as this. There is an 8kg or 18kg washing machine with a 18kg dryer that's perfect for what l need. Good value laundry and reliable.
