It was a Sunday morning, and I could only get there long after opening due to my transport arrangements so I was worried ... but thankfully I was easily able to get a table to sit down and eat .. I'm lucky most of the people of Manchester don't wake up early on a Sunday. So it was a little quiet but inside was almost full when I got there ... which was nice. It was a decent day and I was kinda close to the window so could see the marina and all the people exercising and walking their dogs and it's with sitting and just chill. So with sitting and eating, I wanted to get something good. it always looked amazing when I was waiting for my drink to take out, but I'm always one to have eggs Benedict whenever I can, so I figured I might as well try theirs ... and it did not disappoint. It came with ham hock, 2 eggs, brown butter, hollandaise, and crispy kale on their own sourdough. Im not usually one to have kale ... but they made it amazing. I finished every last bit and wanted more ... it was hands down, one of the best eggs Benedict I have ever had. To accompany the eggs benny, I also went for a coffee, as you do, and an orange juice, which was so nice. Hands down will always recommend people to go to pollen, if not for their sourdough and coffee and pastries to go, but also to sit and eat. Love this place

There is a homemade Yuzu drink that I'd love to try next time. Outside has a few more seats than inside. They can run out of food, so I'd make sure you get here on the early side if you want food. It's a pretty casual spot and loudness level depends on the crowd. The food tastes very good!

The service was really good with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I'll be back for sure. The prices were good also. The seating was good and the wait was not long ( although I booked ahead of time).

The best Patissier and Chocolatier in North Manchester…read more Any time I drive into Manchester (which is very often) I have to drive past Slattery's and always manage to make some excuse to pop in. I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). Safe to say these always go down well. If you have a sweet tooth, this is somewhere you should definitely visit.

I don't know what happened with my old review for this place, I originally posted it and it still…read moreremains in my list of reviews on my profile, but doesn't appear on the business, and considering it got quite a good reception in Useful, Funny, Cool votes that's a shame, it doesn't appear as Not-Recommended either, and is like I have not written a review at all, but here it is! Martin's is a small chain of businesses, with 25 stores in the Greater Manchester region, which has been growing of late. This store has seemed to be in Middleton for a good number of years now, and is located in Alkrington, next to a newsagents and fairly close to The Lancashire Fold Pub. My friend's always seem to love Martin's, but I simply don't get or understand the hype about it, apart from it being a smaller business version of Greggs, and like Greggs they don't have any options for Coeliacs, it is a typical bakery with everything being gluten filled. I noticed the prices here to be rather expensive, which included £1.20 for a very small Orange Juice, and a similar price for a really small biscuit, which was 33g, most of them were so small, you could see through the biscuit and the wrapper which is not on, and has low standards if you have to sit there, and rummage through the pile for one that actualy has some weight to it. The staff aren't great here, they don't seem too helpful which is a shame as it seems to be a small business, or at least part of a very small chain, who usually do pride themselves on customer service. I had a freshly squeezed orange juice for £1.20, it was quite nice and did taste fresh, but there were no health labels on the orange juice or even the size portion, but it was very small and the packaging looked like something you would get from a market, and not a store, most of the packaging used seemed to be cheap as well and not provide information on the product, even for pre-made and prewrapped items. This is only a small bakery, but due to the nature of the store it doesn't need to be any bigger, but due to issues, pricing and labeling I sadly don't feel Martin's deserves anymore than 2 stars. UPDATE: After some consideration I have decided to upgrade Martin's to 3 stars, having been told to include some gluten in my diet for tests, I tried Half a Chicken Salad sandwich from here with a friend, and found it to taste good-quality, and good value too between £2.50 and £3 for the full thing, while also considering the fact it is a nice, small bakery and they do some nice stuff here, which are often hard to find elsewhere I do feel Martin's deserves 3 stars, but however due to some issues such as the pricing of some items such as the Fiolentines, priced at £1.20 for something which is as thin as an A4 piece of paper, and about the size and shape of a digestive, it just isn't on. Also, some of the cakes seem to be rotated around everyday, so some days they are fresh and some days they seem to taste less fresh, a day old and not as nice, which is a shame as you never know what you are getting, and it would be much better if they made a smaller batch each day, but still Martin's is a solid 3 star place!
