You can eat your cheese and onion slice while on the lanes watching those weird people who dress as statues and only come to life frighten the hell out of the kids when they fill their cups with pennies, or you can scoff your iced bun while in the park watching the fantastic nutters putting on their shows or by the river as the boats go by. We go to Stratford a few times a year and having kids and not wanting to spend a fortune in restaurants we usually go to Greggs and enjoy it far more. As the advert says Get To Greggs

Greggs is on the corner of a long row of shops which means two whole walls are taken up by large windows, this makes the shop very bright and light inside which is a good atmosphere I think for serving food. The food is arranged under typical glass counters which are always kept spotlessly clean, I've seen staff in here wipe away marks as soon as they have made or spotted them. There is a good selection of both hot and cold food in this branch and usually most items are available, if not then you'll be advised how long (in minutes) it will be. The sausage rolls are very popular so sometimes there is a short delay while more are cooked, this means they're fresh but can cause a problem if you're giving them straight to the kids as they are scalding hot! I love the mini quiches and also the tuna mayo baguette, my daughter loves the thai chicken wraps but always takes the salad off because she says it's soggy. Everything I've ever eaten from here has been fresh and at the perfect temperature, of course the hot food varies depending on how long since it's been cooked but the food is always delicious whether it's piping hot or luke warm. Prices are the same as Greggs anywhere, which is slightly more expensive than Firkins Bakery but the quality and flavours of the food are of better quality so I'm not bothered about paying a bit extra.

Prices are tremendously cheap, even lower than your average Greggs, and the store is very spacious and clean inside, making for a pleasant atmosphere on every visit. The staffs aren't exactly the friendliest bunch, but they are fast and efficient, and manage very well considering how ludicrously hectic things can get of a lunchtime. Freshly baked bread is available at low prices and the cakes displayed inside the bakery's glass counter are irresistible. I visit recently for a cheese and bean melt, and was more than impressed by Firkins' no-nonsense customer service and excellent prices. The melt didn't taste too bad either!

The hot toasties here are to DIE for and their food is always the perfect mix of simplicity and indulgent flavor. The atmosphere is also super pretty there and when you sit outside you always get a good scene of people walking through the courtyard. I also love that you can get coffee, tea, and cakes on top of their sandwiches and salads! This place is a most go if you are stopping in town for any reason!

I've only ever popped in here a couple of times for a coffee on the go, and with a sign out front declaring 'proper coffee' available it gives you hope for a good brew. Sadly I was left disappointed. I'm not sure if the guy who served me is normally the cook or whether they were shorthanded but my Vanilla Latte was just meh. I can honestly say i don't think i've ever been asked how much vanilla before and do I also want sugar. Having said this the coffee itself was tasty, it was just the vanilla part of the latte that was a fail. Although i haven't eaten here they seem to do a good range for veggies and the food is generally cheap to eat here. Whilst they do have places to sit outside as well as inside, it's small size and busy lunch queues does make it feel too crushed for a relaxing bite to eat. Worth trying if you need something on the go but unless you are passing through or work over the St. Paul's, Jewellery Quarter area it's a bit out of the way to make a point in visiting.

If you're in need of a breakfast, they make a great sausage and egg (the egg is always really runny!) sandwich. I tend to go here for lunch as they offer a great salad box. In the fridge counter, you'll find a selection of exciting salad options which include vegetable cous cous, potato salad, chopped apples and other tasty choices. The only downfall of this place is that the salad box comes to around £4.70 which is too expensive for me to go here everyday. It's a nice treat though!
