Even better than the one in Shelton Square is the Greggs in Earlsdon. They do the best jam doughnuts, and being as it is just that little bit out of town, is never as crowded as the other stores in town. I lived in here when I was at uni. read more

The food is standard bakery fare; sausage rolls, pasties, cakes, breads and various other dough-based foods. Not only is there less of a queue here, the food is better too; the pastry is lighter and flakier, the meats are higher quality, and the sandwiches aren't drenched in mayonnaise. There is an eat-in area to the rear, where the same food is served but is a little pricier.

But, here we are in Stratford-upon-Avon, stopping for 1 night, and I spotted this bakery specialized in Cornish pastry, so I thought this is as close to Cornwall as can be. And here we are! It didn't take us too long to pick, when there's this inviting sandwich staring at us, and outside tables to eat (people were just getting, and I grabbed a couple empty seats). I ordered the Traditional. Don't know what's in it, but the customer next to me told it to me, so I say, OK! I had chocolate milkshake with that. Hubby ordered the West Country pork, apple, & Cornish cider. Both sandwiches are hot & delicious! I ate all mine, leaving 1 bite of crush, I was getting full. Milkshake wasn't quite the size I had in mind, it was more of a child's portion. But it satisfied my cravings. Will go here again, next time!

Anyway, I digress - sausage and stuffing batches with a few onions too Mmmmmmm Mmmmm, you HAVE to have one, they're the best - sorry all you vegetarians you just can't partake in the sausagey goodness. I hadn't visited for years, being in Cornwall and all, so last time I went in, I was pleasantly suprised by the transformation - there's a big cake counter with loads of luscious looking goodies, and I have to admit I gave in to temptation and had a wonderful looking cupcake, which tasted just as good as it looked - yumm! They also sell bread, batches and meat. There's a cafe too.

Of course everyone knows what Greggs' is. It's a bakery chain that sells sausage rolls, pasties,…read moreother baked goods, and the occasional loaf of bread. The baked food is certainly tasty, and my partner declares the pasties to be great, but for me the dough is just too greasy and heavy. And the white bread is terrible - just fluffy pap that doesn't taste of anything. At this particular branch I find that the baked goods are usually too cold, even thought they're kept under a heat lamp. I'm obviously in the minority though - visit any time between about 11am and 3pm and there are likely to be queues out the door.
