Reminded me of a good cup of coffee from one of those gas stations in America that use the grinder for the beans. It was a long wait and I must say the sausage roll was pretty tasty despite people saying that the UK doesn't use seasonings. The cheese party uhhmmm I can pass! It was little cold to be a cheese patty. I was happy that I visit this staple.
I was a little intrigued by the sign at Morris Pasties in the West Quay shopping centre, in…read moreSouthampton. It was a quote from a review in the 'Daily Telegraph', which claimed their wares were ' the finest pasties in Cornwall'. Now, last I heard, Southampton was in Hampshire and Cornish pasties have recently gained a PDO, which means you can't call them Cornish pasties unless they were made in Cornwall. On deeper checking, I found that they're made by Cornish Premier Pasties, in St. Columb Major, which is definitely in Cornwall, but they're frozen for delivery, and defrosted and baked as required. Does this take something away from the flavour? Because I'd take issue with the Telegraph's statement here. While there was plenty of beef in it, it tasted rather bland, and the pastry slightly soggy. And, where were the swedes? It did make for a filling lunchtime bite, so there was nothing to really complain about. But, nothing to write home about, either.

My only problems with it are that there's not really a lot of vegetarian options (either a veggie pastie or a cheese & onion pastie), and some of the baked goods can be a bit bland, especially the doughnuts. The staff are as much as you'd expect from fast food-type restaurants (sort of an on to the next one attitude), but for me it's a good grab 'n' go place to get something quick and hot to eat.

Boswell is fairly bog standard - sandwiches, soups, some cakes, coffee, tea, juices .. it's basically a slightly hyped up cafe (english style) .. think of a cleaner & fancier looking Roy's Rolls from Coronation Street.

Their Campagne bread is amazing, as is their walnut bread, and even their ordinary white sandwich and wholemeal. Then there are the cakes........
