If you're a fan of the work of Georges-Pierre Seurat, you're sure to enjoy the 1884 Neo-Impressionism painting, "The Couple" (original title: Un dimanche après-midi sur l'île de la Grande Jatte). Does it somehow look familiar? This was a study for A Sunday on the Island of la Grande Jatte! "This work is one of many that Georges-Pierre Seurat made in preparation for a much larger painting. The woman's stiff posture is accentuated by her tightly buttoned jacket and the exaggerated bustle of her skirt, which echoes the curve of her parasol. Given that the area of Paris depicted here was known for prostitution, it has been suggested that the woman is a sex worker on the arm of a male client." Give yourself several hours if you plan to take in the entire collection. If you are fortunate enough to live nearby and can visit often, take your time and you're sure to fall in love with one of the many wonderfully curated items found within the museum walls.

There are a huge number of artefacts, and every time I go I manage to see and learn new things. The Museum is run by keen volunteers who are happy to guide you round or answer any questions. There is a nice little tearoom which also sells souvenirs and often has wartime music or films playing in it. There are sometimes sandwiches for sale, but no other meals, just snacks like crisps, sweets, biscuits. The souvernirs are VERY CHEAP- lots for under £1. There is also an underground bunker which is open during high season which has been built as an exact replica of one found recently a few miles away at Stratford St Andrew- you can walk through this and see how Britain's Secret Army lived and trained, with original memorabilia such as food and bomb making equipment housed in the bunker. This is very popular with the children, but the main WWII museum part is probably more suitable to adults due to the nature of the exhibits- lots of written displays etc. There are outside picnic tables which are lovely in summer but can get very windy due to the barren and flat surroundings. BEST OF ALL, ENTRANCE TO THE MUSEUM IS FREE- but the Museum does rely on donations to be able to survive. Do play the Museum a visit if you are going near to Framlingham- it is open Sundays March- September and Wednesdays in July and August and really does offer a lovely, informative and evocative morning or afternoon out.

The motorcycles date from the early 1900s to the 1980s, and include scooters and mopeds as well. The museum is housed in a shed adjacent to North Walsham Railway Station (past the woodyard). There is a limited number of parking spaces by the entrance. As a private museum, don't expect fancy surroundings and posh curation: there are four two-tier rows of motorcycles and other memorabilia for you to browse at your leisure, with a workshop feel to the place. The owners are helped by a number of enthusiastic volunteers, who are able to answer questions. The museum has a small selection of souvenirs (post cards, mugs etc.) also undertakes private restoration work supplying both original and replica spare parts from wheels to forms for all makes of early motorbikes.

We did have to pick what we were interested in and walk through some displays we weren't necessarily into, but we had plenty of time to enjoy everything on offer. And boy, do they have offerings! Firstly I was impressed by the architecture as you approach the antiquated castle, then by the glass addition on entry which blend both old and new together. We started by walking up to the ramparts to view the city and you continue to see the seamless way they integrated the buildings on the staircases. Then we started at the beginning of the museum and enjoyed the banquet hall where there are hands on displays including fake food and clothing for children....or your inner child ;) Great photo op! There are continued interactive displays throughout the museum to enjoy so keep a lookout. As well as museum displays there are art galleries and although I'm not usually a fan of modern art I was intrigued by some of the artwork using mixed media. The museum really does have something for everyone's interests, military, archaeology, social history, teapot collections, taxidermy in landscapes, every era represented. I hadn't expected to see so many excellent exhibits in a museum this size. Norwich knows how to build a museum! If I ever return I will start my day at the museum and spend more time there.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight operates a Lancaster, five Spitfires, two Hurricanes, two Chipmunks, and a Dakota. In 1986, it became possible to view these historic aircraft, at their base at RAF Coningsby. In the years immediately following World War Two it became traditional for a Spitfire and Hurricane to lead the Victory Day flypast over London . From that event there grew the idea to form an historic collection of flyable aircraft, initially to commemorate the RAF's major battle honour. Since it began in 1957, the aircrew on the Flight have been drawn from volunteers who maintain the 12 historic aircraft both at Coningsby and out on the display circuit. Visitors are led on a guided tour around the BBMF hangar by knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer guides, who give freely of their time and who, in many cases, have first hand experience of the aircraft Entry to the exhibition centre, souvenir shop and car park is free; there is a small charge for guided tours of the hangar, with special rates for groups Well stocked shop offering an extensive range of aviation gifts. There is a permanent exhibition gallery exploring Lincolnshire's links with the RAF plus regular programme of temporary exhibitions. Open Monday to Friday 10.00am - 5.00pm Guided tours of the hangar from 10.30am - 3.30pm (3.00pm November - February) but of course in show season they cannot guarantee certain planes will be there. A small museum that should not be missed if you're near by. It should also be noted that this is a…read morecomplete volunteer operation, they don't charge for admission, and just ask for donations. So I kept that in mind while reviewing them. On to the review. The volunteers here are fantastic, to include the one ex-RAF guy working the entrance, who I spoke with several times over the course of my visit as I strolled about. They have a good number of aircraft out on display, to include the very first Sea Vixen delivered to the Royal Navy, and is the only first generation Sea Vixen on display in the world! They also have a smattering of aircraft wreckage from the war, as well as memorabilia from the B-24s that flew out of the airfield near here. They also have pieces of German V-1 and V-2 Rockets that impacted in the region, but I almost overlooked them, because there's so many different random artifacts. One thing to keep in mind is that a majority of the planes are outside in the elements, so if it looks like rain, be sure to plan accordingly.
