Very large open space, outside seating...it really is beautiful. They inherited a wood fired oven from the previous pizza place and has combined it into their cooking. The bread, a signature chixken dish, beef and others are excellent with the smoke of the fire. A mangalista pig rillete, oosterschelde lobster and many other things made their way...so delicious. It was full when I tried to look up availability, but soon after I placed waiting request (at the counter seats), it was cleared fortunately! I enjoy watching how food is prepared. If you're like me, then I'd highly recommend their counter seating. The kitchen was sparkling clean and all staff were working hard and efficiently. Everything was great: scallops, steak with melted foie gras, and chocolate mousse. I wish I had a bigger stomach (or two), lol. While other venues (similar restaurants) tend to serve course menu only, I appreciated Bar Bulot allowed us to select what we want to eat!

I had his cooking previously in Brugges a few years back and when he decided to open a few places in Antwerp it was time to revisit his cooking. Bar Bulot is his take on some very traditional Belgian cuisine done with his twist of finesse. I let them decide what I should have as he happened to be in the kitchen that day. Shrimp croquette to start with a glass of champagne. Not a bad way to begin. Followed by their house made bread and butter. A dish of fried veal breain with powdered black garlic. Then the mains of veal tongue accompanied with vinaigrette sale and potato croquettes. To finish it was some homemade ice cream and a tea to finish off. Excellence throughout. I was watching via the kitchen counter the whole time and it was amazing to watch the team put out dish after dish quite flawlessly. I guess that's what happens when the chef is in the house. Service by the GM Elske was also excellent. I would kill to have something like this near my home. But alas I will have to head back to Antwerp or Brugge to have this again. This is why we travel!

I was told it was in the student-area of the city, so I hope they get plenty of business - I want to go back on my next trip there!
