My wife and I tried Grill On Tex Mex tonight. It was a Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't very busy. We sat at the bar top and ordered beef quesadillas. The quesadillas were excellent. They came with lettuce, guacamole and sour cream. The beef was tender and had great flavor. Service was quick. The ambiance was nice. Lots of flatscreen TV's in the bar area. Of course I'm craving the delicious nachos so a friend of mine and I decided to have dinner at 1 of my favorite Restaurant... So today was very busy unfortunately after asking for my nachos to be brought out I made it clear I didn't want jalapenos or onions. Then ordered my margarita. Then the order came to us with nachos with jalapenos no napkins no forks and also the Margarita did not have salt around the rim that I had asked for. So after waiting around trying to get the waitress to notice us. We were eating with our fingers and we didn't have napkins imagine that sticky fingers yes. Bad deal, So after a while they come back and felt bad about ignoring us we had no utensils. I had to stay calm at this point the wait was so long so unfortunately we finally ordered our main meal I ordered the dinner flautas with Beans and rice. Fish tacos. So the food was amazing like usual but the wait was not a typical evening. So not every visit at this restaurant is going to be a 5 star today I have to give 4 stars. We loved the food! As others have mentioned, the creamy jalapeno dip is something unusual, and it's unusually good! My wife had the Ramos Family Starter (an appetizer as her meal), enjoyed it, and it was more than she could eat. I had Combination #3 - 3 different enchiladas, rice, and beans. Loved it! We've always noticed that service at most restaurants tends to be more dicey the less busy a place is, and this visit was no exception. Almost nobody there, and after waiting a while I had to go find someone to bring us a check. Not a big deal; in fact I guarantee we'll be back at the next opportunity. read more

The food is always delicious. I have not had a bad meal here. The chicken enchiladas were stuffed full of breast meat and very filling. The beef tacos were overstuffed and there cilantro ranch salsa is great on everything, it makes the rice and beans taste like a full meal. My wife is from Mexico and she says it is the best she has ever eaten. Not your basic Tex-Mex, unique flavors very fresh everything. I would've given a four stars, but they're understaffed today. Nestled in the corner of a strip center directly on 620 you'll find this establishment. This place has been around for about a year as of this writing and there are currently 40+ reviews. Lots of people slapping down five stars, but there is a common complaint about the blandness of the food. On our visit, I'd probably give the heat index 2 to 3 stars out of five. I also noticed many yelpers failed to take any photos. They do have some pricey artwork on the walls for sale and a room upstairs for private parties. They also have a bar off to the side with 5 flat screens as well as outdoor seating. They have a decent number of drinks at the bar, although I did not spot any local craft beer. We were barely seated when the complementary chips and salsa along with a ranch dip hit the table. We started off with two frozen margaritas, which were good, but only about 8 oz in size. The two sauces that come with the chips had a decent amount of heat, just not over the top. We decided on two of their burrito plates, which were stuffed with plenty of meat. They definitely satisfied the Tex-Mex craving, and they even came with a garnish of one slice of jalapeño. We still had room for dessert so we opted for the fried ice cream which comes with sopapillas. The presentation was nice, although I've had better sopapillas elsewhere. When it's time to check out, you'll be getting that handheld device with the predetermined tips, but no summary of the charges. It's a place I'd come back to. Grill On is tucked away nicely in a convenient strip center. We loved the bright friendly atmosphere but it was quite loud as the acoustics could use some work. We were seated promptly but had to wait awhile to be acknowledged. Table next to us set down after us but had drinks before we were even spoken to. Just the same, they were busy and we always allow grace. Once we were discovered Jacky, our server, was super sweet and very attentive. Mexican Martini, beef fajitas and queso were excellent. Checked out this new spot in Lakeway, which is located in a small strip mall off of busy 620. The food was uniformly solid if short of dazzling -- but this is classic Tex-Mex, and it met my expectations. I really enjoyed the marinated fajita beef, but enchiladas came woefully under-sauced. Mind the salsa -- it's scorchingly hot. Margaritas were well prepared. Service is attentive and accurate, I had no complaints whatsoever on that front. If I'm going to ding Grill On for anything, it's the stark ambiance. Cold canister lighting makes the place feel like a hospital cafeteria instead of an inviting neighborhood restaurant. And the place is desperately in need of a little music -- and maybe some more decor aside from oil paintings on sale. If you're craving a taco and have $1300 to drop on artwork, this is your place! Grill On is quickly becoming my favorite Mexican food spot in Lakeway. Their tacos, enchiladas, salsa, nachos, queso, and even their burger have all been fantastic! Service is friendly and attentive, even when we venture in water logged from a day on the lake an hour before close. The price point is also unheard of! I got takeout a few days ago for three and it was $40 with tip. My only complaint is the ribeye. It was good but it's a very thin cut and they don't cook it to a preferred temperature. It's also only $14 and the flavors were good, so it's hard to actually complain about it. If you don't enjoy well done, you probably want to steer clear of this. Overall, great vibes, friendly and attentive service, delicious food, and unmatched prices! read more

Pros: Super attentive staff. Good drinks, cold beer, thick crunchy chips, good queso and tasty salsa. It's very clean and was relatively quiet on Friday evening with a smaller than expected crowd. Cons: All together flavor free. Sauces on my enchiladas were missing depth and seasoning, as were the chicken, cheese and ground meat filling. Wife had the most unappealing beef fajitas, with no seasoning. I heard from a number of acquaintances that it was better than anything else around. I'm sure the bland flavors suit the matured patrons, but my Louisiana-bred taste buds were yawning. I hope for the friendly staff that more patrons like food that's lite on seasoning so they can stay afloat. But that's why there's chocolate and vanilla. Best of luck to this restaurant. You need to map this one- it's tucked in a unassuming business shopping center. I feel like only "those who know" go. I wish they had a bigger sign or something. We have been twice: once for takeout and once for dine in lunch. We would go back and the combo plates are the best deal ! The first time we came here the portions were decent. Second time we came here I ordered the #6. My shrimp quesadillas barely had any shrimp in them. It was mostly tortilla. I opened one up and it had 2 tiny shrimp, one had been chopped in half making it 3 pieces of shrimp for the whole quesadilla! The chili relleno was the size of a jalapeño. Needless to say the portions on this dish were minimal at best, not what we expect in a Tex Mex restaurant. The salsa bowls they bring to the tables are really small. Instead of giving a generous portion they use containers to come refill them. Seems a little unsanitary instead of just giving a larger portion / bowl of salsa. The place also gets really really loud, wish they would install ceiling sound panels or something because the random pieces of foam on the walls and column aren't doing anything. I tried to let management know my concerns via the email on their Facebook, but never heard back. With so many other options for Tex Mex, we probably won't be back. read more

This is our go to. They have redone the menu and eliminated a lot of things, but our favorites are still available. Family owned and run with everything scratch made so some days the salsa is better than others due to tomatoes and other seasonal produce. Best chili relleno this side of El Paso with a real Anaheim (Hatch) chili, not a poblano and chimichanga is also good. Their chicken is hand shredded. Not a lot of heat in most dishes to satisfy the clientele of lots of children and seniors, but ordering deluxe tomatillo or hot green chili should satisfy. read more

Why is this place still in business? there are at least 3 other Tex mex restaurants in a 5 Mile radius that do everything better. Don Mario, Flores, Santa Caterina. We ordered takeout last night. the food was stone cold, probably because I stood at the front for 10 minutes before anyone appeared who was in charge. They forgot to include the tortillas for the two fajita orders we had. They ignored the no onion request for one fajita order which included ONE lousy green pepper. I am do tired of people not being able to put together a takeout order that is complete and yet they encourage a full 20% tip. We will never order from this restaurant ever again. read more

Great food and service! The Chips are thin and crispy, and the 2 dips are delicious , one red salsa, and the other a green sauce. I had the chicken enchiladas and my friend had fajitas.
