The only thing missing is the grouchy farmer telling you to get off his land They've got the full gamut of farm animals and there are various activities on offer. There's a big education focus and they get loads of school kids through here (its probably the first time a few them have seen where meat actually comes from). You can just have a look round though, and there's an excellent cafe when you can get a slice of cake. The products of the farm are on offer too, if you're looking for a bit of dinner. St Werburghs Farm is one of a couple of inner city farms in Bristol. It's an amazing achievement…read morethat is constantly improving and expanding within the confines of this densely populated environment. Flanked on three sides by things that deny access (sprawling allotments and private land), there is only one road leading to the place, which makes for a pretty secluded feel, despite the fact that it is smack bang in the middle of such a heavily populated area. The main attractions are, to my mind, the endlessly grumpy pigs who tend to complain and moan to each other, but are seemingly indifferent to humans. Then there's the much more sociable goats who occupy the main enclosure and can be viewed from the street. My favourite is an unfeasibly large billy called Elvis who goes to some incredible lengths to reach the hawthorn tree that is cordoned off within their grassy compound, usually involving death defying feats in an effort to scale the fencing. There's no entry fee, but donations are welcomed. With the Farm pub and café adjacent, there's everything needed for a fun packed day out for all the family.

Walking down brings you to the Palladian Bridge by the bodies of water. A group of people were having a picnic in the grassy area across the bridge. Note that the incline is steep at a grade of 25% and is a climb back up to return. The trail also branches out to the Bath Skyline, which I found the view to not be as good since it was more distant. The staff had explained we could exit from there out to the roads, but we somehow got turned around back to the garden. An entry fee of £8 is required. Restrooms and café are by the entrance. The garden was smaller than expected, and walking from one end to the other did not take up that much time. Bus 2 Bathcity has a direct route to and from the city. It is best to take public transportation as there is no parking lot.

It…read moreis doing an excellent job in serving its local community, which stretches from the Burghs to Lawrence Hill and Easton. It runs a huge swathe of classes for people of varying backgrounds and seems very inclusive. I've attended some fantastic yoga there and although the room was small, the teaching was excellent and the classes very cheap. There's all kinds of things going on here, from silver jewellery making to Alexander Technique and Tai Chi. It also provides a meeting place for lesbian and gay forums, AA meetings and sessions for Asian families who have children with special needs and disabilities. It's well worth checking out their very varied programme and going along to a session.

This community garden is just one of the resources the Centre offers you as well as the chance to become involved in maintaining it. If you live in Adamsdown then you are lucky to have such a fantastic resource on your doorstep. Out of the Centre's offices come walks and workshops, classes, meetings, training, festivals and fun days. Their windows are plastered with posters offering a 'free homework club', 'summer woodwork project', the chance to 'sing in a community choir'. ...And they're open to other suggestions, this is a community space, this is your space. If you live in Adamsdown and want to get to know your neighbours, knock on this door, grab a cup of tea and get involved.

The lovely people running this place do their very best to shift their stock. It's a fairly run of the mill charity shop, differing from most others in that its got a city centre location. They've got the usual array of tired looking vinyl, a bookcase of old thrillers and various odds and ends dug out of people's attics. The prices are designed to get the stuff off the shelves. Somewhere to come if you're stuck for something to read or are just finding the rest of Broadmead a bit abrasive and overpriced.

It used to be discount but is turning into a regular charity shop - found some good bargains last visit - team friendly and helpful. In the site around the corner from Temple Meads, they're also a wood workshop and reclaimation yard - I picked up a very nice antique chest from here to use as a coffee table. They deliver and collect recycled wood from all around the city and like the Sofa Project they also help out people with social problems, so they're a social enterprise as well as being completely green.

What's not to like about this place? The name gives it away; they recycle wood, and put it to use…read moreagain.. and again, if it comes back round to them again! They have all sorts of furniture here that have been donated, which they sell on to the public quite cheaply! So if you're looking for something for the house that won't break the bank, check this place out before you head to Ikea for something new. They also have a small workshop on site where they can make simple furniture pieces from the wood that you choose. It's such a great concept, so do pop on by if at any time you think you need any wood or anything made out of it!
