The station has barriers and normally you won't go through without a ticket. On occasion the barriers are open. On weekends, I guess. There are actually a few entrances to the station. Plenty of car parking and bicycle parking available. Toilets are small, but clean and cubicles are of a good size. In the middle, between the platforms, there appears to be another waiting room, besides the heated one where Costa is located and I endured an hour of wait. In general the station seems well looked after! You will hear plenty of timely announcements and everywhere screens that show the train times.

The historic Center of York is easily walkable. But as a major town, York is popular and the fees for parking on the higher side. As one would expect. We checked online before and weren't surprised when we arrived. We wanted a prime parking location - and we were ready to pay prime fees. For a few hours you get close to 20£. All-day parking sets you back 22.50£ (summer 2025). Which I thought is still ok. In my country you'll pay more. Of course, compared to some other towns (e.g. Oxford) the prices are definitely higher here. But for the whole experience: Shopping, some nice food and great sights it was a fair deal. The car is safe here, the spaces pretty big, no problems for larger vehicles. You pay by app, credit card or even coins (not on all machines though, but there are several). Surely would park here again.

The cars were crammed in an I imagine its a great place to get your car bumped or the painted work scratched. No sure of the day rates for parking but over night it cost us a tenner which I didn't think was too bad really. The guy manning the car park was really helpful and explained all the car park rules to us clearly about when you could gain access to your car overnight. Handy and safe place to leave your car.

A pretty little town, fun shops and an amazing Abbey! And next to no visitors. We parked here. Some pubs and shops are just here on site. And the Abbey a very short walk away. Also not far from the main street: Gowthorpe. Spaces were pretty good, SUVs no problem. And the parking fees really on the lower side. Plenty of space left here on this weekday. Surely would visit Selby again....and park here again.

5 stars for saving many hours driving or crossing on ferries..though I miss the ferries…read more When I went for my interview to Hull College of Art I went on a ferry (and got stuck on mudflats for a couple of hours on the way back..was very merry..where else could you drink at 7 in the morning..not that it was!) I watched the building of the bridge and went to the opening celebrations. I knew people who worked on it..spinning cables. My photography lecturer flew a hot air balloon through it shartly after it opened. of course the locals said it went from no-where to nowhere and Yorkshire and lincolnshire people never did mix :) South from Beverley and north from Barton on Humber is the famous landmark, the Humber Bridge. For 17 years it was the world's longest single-span suspension bridge, and was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen in July 1981. It took nine years to build and provided the link between two areas which had previously been separate and distinct parts of the country. The reasons why a suspension bridge was chosen were twofold. Firstly the Humber has a shifting bed and navigable channel along which a craft can travel is always changing; a suspension bridge with no support piers in mid-stream would not obstruct the estuary. Secondly, because of the geology and topography of the area, the cost of constructing a tunnel would have been excessive. It's an impressive structure, spanning just over 1400 meters, with concrete along weighing almost half-a-million tonnes. The fifty-millionth vehicle passed over the bridge in September 1993; however, the bridge hasn't managed to pay for itself since opening. Currently costs £2.70 for a car crossing.

We made the mistake of going over the bridge when we were visiting relatives, and feel it was £6 wasted. The walls along the side make it virtually impossible to see anything over the sides, and we apparently were going too slow at 55 mph because we had a truck right up behind us one way over the bridge. I suppose it does save time and money in the long run if you need to cross this for work, but its certainly not the excitnig tourist trap some of the Hull tourist books seemed to suggest it was.

A good example of its type. First of all, it's a Moto service station; whilst all motorway service…read morestations are, in my opinion, not great places, the Moto ones tend to be slightly less bad than the others. They have an M&S Simply Food outlet, so at least you know you'll be able to get some decent food somewhere! This particular service station can get very busy, situated as it is on the junction of the M62 and the A1, so if you need somewhere quiet you might want to go elsewhere; but all in all, it's not a bad place to stop (if you can find it through the maze of motorways they've now put in around the place).
