An absolute MUST if you're in Naples. This is very clearly a locals favorite and the service here caters to it. In our hour of dining, tons of people came and gone and the staff knew them by name and order. Very impressive. The food justifies its reputation. We got the conch fritters, seafood chowder, chicken tenders, grouper and chips and the dark and tart. The conch fritters were a surprise. We had never had them before but they were delicious. Just the right texture and the sauces that came with it were perfect. Seafood chowder was served in a mug which had its own cute charm to it. It was so delicious, buttery and chunky full of clams, grouper, and potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't put in shrimp as a filler. I'm allergic to shrimp so I appreciated that it wasn't included. Grouper and chips were delicious! Very crispy but the fish was so tender and fell apart delicately. Also included some tasty tartar sauce. Lastly the dark and tart was a nice surprise! I had been wanting to try key lime pie but was worried I wouldn't like it so I appreciated the inclusion of chocolate mousse. What a great combo! A must order in my opinion. It wasn't as tart as I expected but the chocolate balanced it out well. 100% recommend stopping here if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed. Don't let the unassuming exterior detour you from walking in. This place has some of the freshest grouper in town. And offered at a reasonable price (compared to other places in the area). My wife and I both went for the grouper in two different ways. I selected a basket with 2 pieces that were fried, which also came with fries and coleslaw. My wife chose blackened, with the same sides. My grouper was super fresh, and tasted fantastic! But I have to say, my wife's blackened grouper looked equally good, and she loved hers as well. And the service was wonderful also! Very friendly wait staff that was regularly checking in with us. But there is more. Just when we thought we were done, our server high recommended the key lime pie. We had just enough room to share a piece, and, oh man, were we so happy we did. This is truly a hidden gem that has been a local favorite for quite sometime. I had been several years ago and was so happy to find this gem that I knew I had to go when I was in Naples for my HS reunion. Nothing fancy here but some of the best seafood in the area. The Grouper and shrimp were fresh and the batter was light and crunchy. Went at lunch and got the lunch size portion which was a lot of food. Wait staff were warm and friendly and kept my glass of tea full. It is a very casual and quaint place which offers outdoor and indoor seating. I like to stop at this little restaurant every time I am on the area. They make one of the best soups around. I once tried the apple soup and was hooked with the soup of the day. Whatever soup they make is very good and my reason for stopping every time. Today's I ordered the seafood chowder. I didn't get the soup of the day the shrimp chowder only because of allergies. The seafood chowder was excellent. I loved it and it was delicious. I then ordered the Grouper sandwich. It was good and flaky. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly. I've been coming here for 35 years and it had always been reliably good. I haven't been in a year and a half and this time unfortunately the grouper and chips was absolutely dismal. The Cole slaw was bland and runny. The fish batter has changed and is not light and crispy. The fish was overcooked, the texture rubbery and all of it lacked flavor. Drove across alligator alley from Hollywood Florida trying to kill time waiting for a late night flight and had to check out of my Airbnb. This place doesn't disappoint. Found it on Yelp and decided to give it a try. 230 pm and there is a line out the door of people waiting. Good sign I'd say. We add our name to the list and wait about 20 minutes to be seated. We take a table outside, first available. Ordered some seafood gumbo to start. Super flavorful with all the right stuff. Just a little bit of spice and heat to it, a must try. Next up was the 3 piece grouper basket with fries. Grouper was delicious and the fries were hot and crispy: grouper batter and fish was full of flavor and the fish was flaky and perfectly cooked. The grouper is awesome. Next up was a piece of key lime pie. Por was good, don't get it with the mousse, it ruins it in my opinion. Great staff that was super friendly and attentive. But you have to sit inside because outside you're sitting in a parking lot which is very loud also with the busy road. In summer it's utterly hot. Inside it wasn't really cool either. Great and friendly service and the food was good! The 3 piece basket has 3 large pieces and fries and coleslaw. You also get tartare sauce. Was it the best fish and chips I ever had, no. Far from it. It was good but the batter crust was ok. The fries were good and long. I did personally not care for the tartare sauce at all, it was mayonnaise to me. It's not cheap either. I started with a cup of the seafood chowder and it was really fantastic and way better than the new england version, definitely consider ordering this as it really is tasty. Disappointing experience with hateful server, very surprising, didn't seem to care for our maybe because we have small children?!? After being on the wait list the server ask us if we could split up our party of six, no problem for us, we were ready to eat, but when we asked a question she yelled back at us that "place isn't very big and you can wait another 20 minutes" then stormed off so we had to chase her down to seat us. After we sat down she shouts "do you know what you want", we say we need to look at the menu first... also we ask her to put our drink order in first since she seemed to be skipping that step, no offer of water. Also when we sat down as a family with small children with our 8yr old and 1yr old baby, there was no question from her as we're holding our baby, do we want high chair, etc so I go to back hallway to get highchair myself and carry it through the restaurant to set it up. I then ask for water, she says she'll bring it, grabs water refills for table next to us then ignores us for 10 more minutes before coming with the water. Then she comes back for food orders, before we order she grabs the menus from us and literally throws them on the back counter, fortunately we remembered our choices.. we receive our food as normal but she never comes back to ask us if we want another drink, never comes back to refill waters, and she has someone else bring the check with no ask do you want anything else, do you want desert, etc. Absolutely terrible service and experience!! I've been coming to Grouper & Chips for over a decade. It's held a special place for my family as place we went when my mom had an extended hospital stay across the street. It can be no a nonsense place, no substitutions on some things, which I have no issue with that, it's a small family operation trying to be as efficient as possible. We just still can't believe someone there can be so hateful and mean to a family with small children. What makes it hard is we love Grouper & Chips as a family, but we don't think we can go back anytime soon again to allow our family to be treated so poorly with such hate and such terrible service. read more
