Went during their soft opening weekend in the spring and enjoyed the experience but felt they definitely still had a lot of things to work on, and we looked forward to trying them again once they'd been open a few months, which we did earlier this summer! And our second experience was definitely better! I'm glad they found their groove :) The restaurant is counter service style where you order then get a number and take your seat. They have a cute little shop area on the way to the counter and yummy looking baked goods to order at the counter along with their full seafood and cocktail menu. The center piece of the restaurant is an indoor/outdoor bar which is such a cool vibe for a seafood 'shack' style restaurant a few blocks from the beach!!The food didn't 'wow' but is solid, good seafood and the menu includes fish bites, fish sandwiches, seafood baskets, etc. The drinks are beachy vibes including pina colada's, daiquiris, margs, etc. The first time we came, I ordered a grouper BLT and my boyfriend ordered the fresh catch sandwich and the girl who brought them out couldn't figure out which was which because they looked pretty much the same even though they were two different orders. The fish sandwich was solid, I probably wouldn't order the BLT here again because it didn't really feel like it celebrated the BLT part of the sandwich, compared to a regular fish sandwich, ya know? I guess the point I'm trying to make is since it was listed as a BLT on the menu, I was expecting to have a BLT with grouper on it, not a grouper sandwich with a piece of bacon. So I would love to see them enhance the BLTness of their grouper BLT and/or adjust their menu to be more authentic to what the focus is- good seafood. A seafood shack doesn't need to have an extensive menu with lots of different offerings, if you make a good fish sandwich, people will come for a good fish sandwich. If the other 'handhelds' aren't actually different from that, I wish they would just simplify the menu down to the core items vs having a big menu just to have a big menu. Or really enhance the other handhelds to be their own individual menu items. I just felt kind of cheated out of an actual BLT. I did enjoy the waffle fries and dipping sauce that came with them! The second time I ordered ceviche and my boyfriend ordered the fish sandwich again, as well as some fish bites. The ceviche was interesting, it looked more like salsa but it tasted pretty good. It seemed like they were trying to do their own thing here which, again, feels overly complicated. The drinks were amazing!! Such a fun, beachy vibe! I hope I'm not sounding too aggressive about the BLT because overall I do enjoy this place and feel it's a great spot to come after a beach or pool day- the perfect way to enjoy a sunny summer day! The lil shop has really cute products on offer and the lil fishies painted on the parking lot spots are a really cool detail! Evidently, all the friends/family gave this place 5 stars. It was awful. As a longtime beach resident I was looking forward to another great seafood restaurant option. This isn't it. I ordered the blackened shrimp and trigger. Never in my life have I had shrimp cooked this bad. The shrimp had a rubber texture. The trigger was.... Meh. The waffle fries, keep em'. It took 40 minutes to get our food. If you're planning on visiting this place, do yourself a favor and go to Dockside, Seafood Kitchen or Singletons. All three are better options. LOVED my blackened triggerfish meal here on a salad- I will be back for that exact meal asap. Slight negs- the restaurant is so open air it is quite warm on the interior. I finally tried the Grouper Shack. The seafood was fabulous! I met up with friends to celebrate a birthday. We walked inside and got in line to place our order. I had to try the grouper because it's in the name lol. I ordered it blackened. I upgraded for the collard greens and my second side was coleslaw. The only thing that disappointed me was no hush puppies. But I got the sense that this place has a Maine influence. Once our order was placed we found a table outside on the patio. The fish arrived fresh, tender and flaky. It was excellent! The collard greens and coleslaw were good too. But the grouper was the highlight. In foodie friend fashion, my friends and I tasted each others food. Next time I go I plan to order the red shrimp (tastes like lobster and served with melted butter) and blackened scallops. Yummy! We also grabbed four sweet treats to share with the table. And I purchased a turtle cookie to take home. The treats were good. My favorite was the turtle cookie! Finally made it to the Grouper Shack and I am for sure a fan. We came in for lunch on Sunday and ordered at the counter. I do like that they have a number of drink option to pick from went in line to order plus they also have a full bar and plenty of beers on draft. You gotta love a $4 Busch Light. For food we ordered the Fried Crab Claws which I haven't had or even see in a while and the Grouper BLT Fried. Our food came out pretty quickly and we started with the Fried Crab Claws and wow they were great. So flavorful and there were a lot of them. They also came with a tasty rémoulade sauce as well which I am always a fan of. They are for sure a must each time you come. My Grouper BLT was also very good. Perfectly cooked flaky Grouper on a nice Potato Bun with tasty fresh BLT. It also came with Waffle Fries which were also pretty good. We of course had to get desert where they are making all type of fresh made cookies and other treats. We got 2 cookies: A Cookies and Creme, and a Snickerdoodle both were amazing. Grouper Snack has a bunch of other great options so I know I will be coming back again. read more

This place was packed on a Tuesday night around 630! It was raining outside, so there was limited patio seating, but every table was taken. You order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you, and it took a while to get ours. It was also taking a while to turn tables, I think they were understaffed. Despite this, the staff was all really friendly and the food was good. I enjoyed the ahi tuna tacos and the fish was very fresh and flavorful. I do wish I had gotten the lime crema on the side though as it wasn't for me. My friend enjoyed the crab cakes basket and clam chowder and he said both were good! The desserts were my favorite part -- they were incredible. The girl at the counter told us that the baker comes in and bakes everything fresh daily and you can definitely tell! Since you order at the counter, you could even come in just for a sweet treat! They have cornhole on the covered patio and a full service bar, so overall a good place to pop in after a long day at the beach. read more

I got the pick 2, with grouper and shrimp both blackened + 2 sides, I got coleslaw and Mac n cheese... only thing I wasn't loving was the Mac n cheese, it was like watery? I went here for lunch over the weekend. We hadn't been here since they opened at the beach, so we decided to give it a whirl. When we arrived I looked at the specials board and the menu. When we ordered, I ordered a grouper BLT, my husband got gumbo and shrimp po'boy, and my kiddo got a hamburger (kid's meal), with a side of mac and cheese and a drink. Their prices IMO are very reasonable, $16.99 for a fish sandwich and two sides. I got the fries and the broccoli salad. Everything came out quickly. I dug into my sandwich and the amount of fish was great! The fish was lightly blackened and the bacon was smokey and delicious. My husband said he liked his meal (he finished everything). My kiddo liked his burger, but wasn't the biggest fan of his mac and cheese. He wound up eating half my fries and said he'd get those next time. read more

Maybe the worst ordering system/service I've seen at a restaurant. I'm not sure who thought this process would be better than the way every other restaurant in the world operates. After 60+ minutes they let us know that the order was never processed (shocker) and the order was taken again...this time at our table. And wouldn't you know it, that system worked! Not that I was expecting any comped food but there wasn't even an offer to do so. Take that tip and get out of that table tracking system contract you use. Now let's talk ambiance. This is a beach restaurant so I get the open air environment. Maybe help get the air moving inside and help out the girl taking orders. Outside seating was nice but I couldn't imagine eating there when it wasn't during evening hours. Now the food wasn't too bad. B- quality which is what kicks this review up to 2-stars. My wife got blackened grouper on a salad and it was very good as well. This isn't worth taking away a star but the coleslaw is a 3 out of 10 at best. I am a big slaw guy. Imagine spending all day at the beach and now you're hungry for lunch. This place is absolutely that place to fill your hunger! There are several things I liked about the Grouper Shack first off it was a very laid-back vibe. I also loved the service at the front registers they were so helpful in me trying to figure out what I wanted to eat. Not being a huge seafood eater myself I eventually decided on the bang bang shrimp and the fried crab claws as an appetizer to split with a table. For a drink, I went with the Keylime piña colada and for dessert we ended up having the cookies and cream cookie. The shrimp and claws were good, but the piña colada and cookie were next level! Now I do think most of my opinion is due to the fact that I don't actually love seafood, but even as a non-seafood lover, I can say the shrimp and claws we're good I just could've eaten five cookies and had six piña coladas! I would suggest if your beach side checking this place out especially if you're looking to watch a game or something on TV. Also, it would be a great place to hang out with a big family. read more

We happened in during the soft opening and now we cant wait to come back. They kept the setup similar to the previous spot just upgraded it all. It's an order at the counter and then sit or full service bar situation, we opted to sit at the bar. Our food did take a bit of time to come out but it was pretty busy and they were still working out the kinks but the flavor was on point. The shrimp on the nachos was cooked to perfection I just wish there were more. For dinner we both got a pick two combo with blackened fish. My husband got the shrimp and grouper, I got the trigger and grouper. The standard sides are fries and coleslaw or you can switch to another option for an upcharge. The fried crab claws were my favorite item, followed by the fish sandwich, fries, and coleslaw. The shrimp tasted a bit spoiled to me, my boyfriend didn't complain and liked them. They seemed a bit rancid per my tastebuds. Yuck! The sides were pretty tasty. There is an up charge for sides that do not come with the meal. The froze was refreshing, but I didn't taste watermelon, or rose. This place gets a steady flow of patrons. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Great service. The restaurant offers nicely decorated indoor, outdoor and bar seating. The menu has about a dozen appetizers, seafood baskets, handhelds, tacos and soups and salads. Lots of choices on the menu. The grilled grouper bites are delicious!! The trigger fish on the Cesar salad was so good. Grilled is the way to go! The side salad and Caesar are weak in size and are missing some essential vegetables so there is plenty of room for improvement. The kitchen is fast! Despite hearing several raving reviews and the place looking packed at all times, our first experience was extremely underwhelming. Having walked in on a Wednesday evening around 7pm we were greeted by a displeased group of teenage girls. Unfortunate to find out this place offers the same system as bearded pig - order at the counter then sit with a buzzer. The girl who took our order offered no greeting besides "i can take you" and then continued to stare at us for the duration of us looking at the menu. We ordered our food quick as we knew we wanted some fried shrimp but she seemed annoyed she had to answer questions and wait for us 2+ minutes while we looked over the quite extensive drink menu. (We had 3 people) As we were deciding what we wanted she continued to tell us we can go and order at the bar and asking if that would be it after every ordered drink - obviously if I am finished ordering I wouldn't still be looking at the menu and let you know I'm ready to pay? I felt so uncomfortable by her that I decided to pay for our 2 shrimp baskets and corn nuggets without my drink and just go ahead and go to the bar for it. So i did. The bar was really busy and so I turned back around to look at the girl who took our order just to see that her rush was to get back on her phone to scroll. No one was even behind us in line. I came straight back up with my drink order and realized she is literally not mentally equipped as she asked me what I had already said. That really got me in a funk with this spot. It all seemed hectic and unorganized. We got a buzzer that was non stop going off and made us think we had to find a seat as soon as possible as our food was coming. So as we tried to sit at a high top it was in a puddle of a spilt drink. We then walked over to a different area as a guy who looks like any regular person with sunglasses on top of his head is standing looking at us with a drink in his hand. I could tell if this was a customer or someone from the bar, turns out he had one of our drinks.. When we sat down we had asked a bus boy why our buzzer keeps going off and let him know about our terrible experience with the host. Couple minutes later the manager walked up, which we appreciated her concern. She asked to hear our story, said she would talk to the host and offered another round of drinks on the restaurant which was nice. She said our buzzer was nonstop going off because it was "undercharged" Overall by the time our food showed up it was cold and really nothing special. The atmosphere was a bit overcrowded and messy. The service was the biggest turn off and the drinks were not anything great. ( i got the San Sebastián) I wouldn't go back. read more

My daughter order an alternative whole fish. She thought it could have been seasoned more. The fries were hard and no salt at all. I ordered the trigger and shrimp. My shrimp was a little hard-fried and my fish needed a little more seasoning. My younger daughter enjoyed her crab bites. I did not. I would have liked to try the snapper. This spot is doing a soft opening this week, and we stopped in today--so glad we did! The food was so good. The vibe is very casual and extremely family, pet-, and all-around people-friendly. You order when you arrive (either at the counter or sit at the bar), and they bring everything right to you. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. For a soft opening they really seemed to have it together and communication was great! We started with the crab bites, which were delicious. I had the whole fried lionfish, my daughter ordered a poke bowl, and our friends went with the fried fish basket and lobster bisque. I've gotta go back soon to get that bisque. Everything was super fresh, perfectly cooked, and not greasy at all. Oh...And the waffle fries were the perfect crispy. The staff behind the bar were wonderful and super friendly and helpful.
