The rooms were refurbished some time back, and are clean and modern. They are attempting a variation with their specials' menu or I they call it "Chefs (sic!) Menu". Two courses are now £20 per person, and an extra £4.95 for an additional course. Club Carlson "Concierge" members would normally get 20% discount, but not off this menu. The everyday RBG menu is quite varied, and there is a decent offer for two people dining, which includes a glass of wine, This is still eligible for the 20% discount referred to above. The present Chef's Menu is as follows: Starters: Chefs (sic!) Homemade Soup of the Day. Smoked Chicken and Apricot Terrine with a Chicory and Walnut Salad and Spiced Poached Pear. Thai Style Fishcake on an Avocado and Mango Salad topped with a Soft Poached Egg. Glazed Goats (sic!) Cheese and Rosemary Bruschetta with a Radicchio and Chive Salad Mains Orange and Ginger Spiced Chicken Breast on a Bed of Oregano Coconut Rice with a Ginger infused Balsamic Reduction. Pan Seared Gressingham Duck Breast on a Bed of Braised Cabbage served with a Blueberry Croquette and Raspberry Glaze. Creamy Seafood Risotto with Crispy Calamari Rings, Pan Fried Garlic Squid Tentacles and Pea Shoot Garnish. Roasted Cauliflower and Hazelnut Carbonara with Thyme and Pesto Dressing. Desserts Chocolate and Raspberry Mille Feuille with Crème Chantilly. Cointreau and Lime Panna Cotta with Citrus Granola and a Blueberry Syrup. (Cranachan) Honey Glazed Raspberries, Toasted Oats and a Whisky Cream. Hot Chocolate Fondant with Vanilla Ice Cream and a Mint Tuile. --------------------- Given the above, the quality can be variable. Last night I had carrot and coriander soup, and it was like picking out the bones from a piece of fish in your mouth. The chef hadn't strained the soup and removed the coriander stalks. His reason given back to the waiter was he hadn't had time!!! So I am only knocking off one point for the hit and miss of the evening food. The breakfast is the standard, fried eggs, scrambled, bacon, sausage, etc., but you can request: poached or boiled. Plus you can ask for porridge. The cold buffet is quite good too. There have been comments with regards to the warmth of the food, but this is down to the serving area needing upgrading, and the plate warmer spring needs replacing so that you can get a hot plate. Just be aware, and you can always ask for a hotter plate..... ------------------- I have never met a rude member of staff. The bar can sometimes be left unattended, but a nod to reception can sort that out. -------------------- There have been occasional problems with safe not working, but this very rare, and rectified fairly quickly. Has a good gym for the size of the hotel, and a swimming pool. The latter I've found to be too hot in the past, so not sure if that has changed. --------------------- There are two types of wifi available: fast (no charge), Superfast (£5.70 per day).

They have a good selection of cocktails and some really lovely premium gins. The drinks are expertly mixed but the bar is far too small so always expect slow service and a queue on a Friday and Saturday night. Food doesn't rock my world but it is good, however, the service is always slow.

Awful bed (for me, I like them softer), but loads of room and very very clean…read more This place is genuinely an apartment and not an efficiency. There is a separate kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom and hallway closet. The kitchen hosts a full ability to cook with microwave, cooker, oven, refrigerator and freezer. A small washer dryer combo is in the kitchen as well. Dishes, cups, utensils for 4 folks are provided. I stayed here so I could shop at the open market and visit tourist spots during the day and easily visit family in the evening in Solihull. The central bus station is down the street, so it's convenient to grab the coach at Heathrow to here and if booked well enough ahead, it only costs about $10 for a 2 hour bus ride. Two train lines are within walking distance, easily within 3 minutes. Major shopping stores are Selfridges (visible from your room), Marks and Spencers, and Debenhams. If you do a lot of sewing, a visit to the Silk City store is a must. A lot of the street noise is dampened when you close your windows and doors in the evening. The rest can be eliminated with decent ear plugs. There are warehouses nearby where work begins at 5 am. Wi-fi was included but it wasn't always working.

The market is really close, St Martin's and Selfridges too. The Chinese quarter, Arcadian and Hippodrome are a short walk away so you could have decent nightlife too-BUT there is loads of noise on the street, so you may want to stay out all night yourself. The entrance way is bright and welcoming and the guys on reception were SO helpful kindly offering to show me up to the restaurant where I was meeting a friend for coffee. The restaurant itself is super high end looking and contemporary in design with an outside terrace that will be opening soon....literally perfect for a sunny day in Brum. I am yet to see the food menu here but know there will be a Pan Asian restaurant opening on the top floor. If it is even half as impressive as the hotel teamed with views of the city....it could be a contender for one of the most interesting and impressive settings for an evening meal in the city. One to watch! Looking forward to getting back for more of the food and drinks soon.

Check in was simple and the lobby and bar/breakfast area is very plush. The rooms on the other hand were not quite as plush, I personally don't think the room itself was any better than say premier Inn, but it did the job and we had nice views of edgbaston. However, unlike the budget chains the showers are modern and big, and the air conditioning was silent - both mega pluses! Unfortunately our room and bathroom wasn't the cleanest, but we were staying just for the night and I was too lazy to complain. Let's be honest, my room was located next to a pokestop... I can forgive the slightly dusty floor for this, I needed the balls Breakfast was good and it is served from 9-11am with a good selection of pastries and a chef is at the egg station to cook you omelets, or eggs to order which was a nice touch. I think for £65 it's really good value for Birmingham, especially on a Friday or Saturday night (expedia always have 10‰ codes on too, so you can get a room for under £60). It's a bit out of the way, but an uber shouldn't be to much to get back to the centre of town if you can't be bothered to walk down broad street.

That being said, it does have a homey feel that makes it really relaxing. We were greeted warmly by the staff and the other guests who were at the bar. The staff helped us find a local place to eat. We had a family room which consisted of 3 single beds. It had a TV and tea service station. The bathroom was clean and modern. We had breakfast the next morning and our eggs were cooked to order. This place had such a nice friendly feel for a good price that I was almost disappointed to leave!

I had the quail egg starter, about £5 The main was a sirloin steak, beautifully cooked, but I thought over priced at £19 A small glass of Chenin Blanc, followed by a small glass of Shiraz, then a large glass of Shiraz. All the wines were fine. Total cost £38. There was no table check, and ask if there was one normally, and was told it should be after 5 minutes. Angela apologised for this not happening. I found all of the staff very good and charming. I might think twice about eating there again given the price, but if I was visiting the International Centre (as I was this time), I'd stay here rather than The International Hotel. I was, however, able to charge it to my room in the other hotel, which I though was handy.

The room for the wedding reception was elegant and the catering simple but classy. All the staff at the bar, and the serving staff were really friendly and polite. I have to say it probably brings out the best in them when you are accompanied by a 5 day old baby though!! One gripe - the toilet facilities. You would think that a complex of this sort would have baby changing facilities - but there were none in the one I used and none immediately apparent (or signposted). There are not many facilities for kids at all in fact - a small park area at the front - but nothing more. They used to have a soft play area which we used alot - but they got rid of it and built a new conference room - not helpful for me but I am guessing more profitable? We did not stay the night as we only live nearby - but have in the past and I found the rooms to be comfortable and on the larger side. Its not cheap - see website for current prices and availability. What the place has got to offer which is above and beyond your average hotel is the leisure facilities. There is a fantastic gym, sauna, 9 hole golf course and pitch and putt. I am told the driving range range is good and the prices are reasonable - especially if you block book. This is rated a 4 star hotel - and I agree.

It is nice looking, all one story, and very large. It has a slightly conference-y feel, so perhaps avoid it if you want a more homey or invidual venue for your wedding. For conferences and corporate events in a classy venue, this would be perfect. I know a few corporate types who stay at Lea Marston when doing business in Birmingham, even though it's outside the city, for the great food and of course, the golf course. Unfortunately, they didn't have our date available, but it was still a pleasant experience. Buuuutttt...we still go to Lea Marston Golf Club every weekend! My husband is a natural at golf, though he hasn't had much experience at it. He persuaded me to brave the British weather once and try it, and it turns out it's a gas! Hubby and stepson have been to the full course, whilst I stick to the driving range. The range is open to all people, regardless of belonging to the club or not. It is a very economical way to practice your swing, with happy hour prices coming in at 40 balls for £1. It's a great way to relieve stress and have fun for a few hours for a fiver! Great for all ages, with very helpful staff.
