This is my second club and hopefully my last. I've been at this club for a little over a year now, and I will stay here for as long as possible. When i saw this club online, I had quite a few questions to ask, for example, how old do you have to be, how much is it etc. Once I asked, i got a very clear answer, and I could see how friendly people were already. I saw all of the video's and photos that were in the gallery, and could see for myself that this club was organised and good.
We are a non-profitable organisation, and all of the money that we give to the club goes back to buy the best, and most useful equipment for us to use. We're not a sporting karate, so we do not compete with other clubs. We train for the street, and in training we make it as realistic as possible.
My favorite things about this club is that we are all like a big family, and look out for eachother. I also like how there are 3 instructors, and the senior grades have had courses on how to teach other students, so everyone gets observed more.
All of the training we do is for a purpose and is very effective. We do Kata (Movements of techniques put into a sequence), Throws, Ground fighting, Pad work, Sparing, Conditioning (strengthening different parts of your body) and loads more. We do 'stress related' training too, and I think its good because you get to see how you react under pressure, and with lots of adrenaline.
We go on residential courses to shropshire a couple of times a year and we go for a week or so to train and have a laugh with eachother. We also go to events and set up a tent and train in there. We sometimes go camping locally and chill out and get to know eachother more.
The gradings are very good, there is a grading syllabus that will be tailored to your grade for you too follow by before gradings. If you pass, then you will get a certificate and a grading report/review. I think this is very good because you get to see what you did well, and what you might need to work on. I think its really good how much time the instructors put into the club.
I recommend this club to anyone interested in learning self-defence and wanting to get fit. read more
