My children began at Groza for tutoring services; after personally speaking to the director, there was always a considerable effort made to match the perfect tutor for each of my children's needs. We then decided during covid to attend the Groza Learning Academy full-time. After completing a school year at the academy, my children received accredited transcripts with perfect GPAs. The following school year, my daughter transferred to Palisades Charter High School, and my son transferred to Malibu Middle School with great confidence in all subjects. I have used Groza to help my two sons study for their high school and college entrance exams and all 4 times Groza has exceeded my expectation. The worst tutor center I have ever been to. While the owner, Scott Groza, was incredibly nice and friendly at first, it was all a farce. He promised my child would be paired with a tutor that knew the subjects and could give my son Chase the attention he needs, especially for Latin. However, I soon found this not to be true. At first, Chase was bounced from tutor to tutor. Apparently, the tutors he had been initially paired with were quitting left and right. When I asked Scott about this, he said that it was just one tutor who left, but he had hired a Latin tutor that would be great for Chase. But again, this was a lie. For each 50 min session, I was charged over $100 for a tutor that knew zero, literally zero, Latin. She even told Chase that she had never had a Latin class before, but that they could "work through it together." Chase told me they spent most of the session searching google for the answers to his homework. This is completely unacceptable, especially after being promised a Latin tutor by Scott Groza. In the end, I pulled my son from Groza Learning Center and found a private tutor who is amazing and comes to our house (no more driving to tutoring!). While all the tutors seem nice and well-qualified, they seem overworked and do not have time to prep for their students. I even asked one tutor after having a session with Chase about how she prepped for her sessions with him. She said that she really doesn't have the time to prep, but said that it wasn't a big deal! I recommend anyone looking for a tutor for their child to look for private tutors and avoid Groza Learning Center at all costs! They will just take your money and provide no real service to your children. read more

I ended up walking into the Groza center in the Pacific Palisades in a moment of desperation. My son was about to take the AP euro exam and was far behind. Dana Goldstein immediately calmed my fears and reassured me that we could get my son up to speed. She matched him with an amazing tutor and after just a few sessions, he not only passed the course, he also passed the national exam. They literally saved us. I cannot say enough good things about Dana and Groza. It's worth every penny! Everyone who worked there was kind and positive and my son's tutor was perfection. I worked at Groza Learning Center and I'd like to share some things that are useful for parents and other tutors to know: PROS - The learning center looks cute and fun and kids enjoy the special rooms they have up front on display. The walls are painted and have decals that are fun for kids. - Kids have found success working with tutors at Groza. The success varies and it seems like most success is with stuff that is generic like homework help. The center also does test prep. - The tutors are nice and friendly coworkers! CONS - Most of the offices in the learning center are a little too small to work comfortably in and tutors have to share office space. Even though the center expanded, there is still overcrowding for tutors and students. - Parents pay Groza over $100 an hour per session, but as a tutor I was getting paid $15 an hour even with an advanced degree and experience. As a tutor, you could probably make more money with other companies. - PARENTS! Not all of the tutors have experience in what they are asked to do. I was asked to tutor a middle school kid in a foreign language that I didn't even know. That was an uncomfortable tutoring session... - Scott not only pays guys more than girls, but he also has favorites and they are all guys. Example: When a guy left the center for something new, Scott threw him a party. When a girl left the center for something new, Scott ignored it and we threw her a secret party in the back. - Tutors are overworked and because of that, they can't always give 100% of their attention to their students. I had five students in a row once and to make it work I had to have my current student doing independent work while I was prepping for the next one. read more

Groza has been a wonderful place for my child to learn this year. The teachers are kind and professional. This is just not a tutoring center. The curriculum has been extremely engaging and involves creative individual and group projects. The studens are very engaged! I can't say enough about how this center has helped my child this year. I was using a private tutor but then switched to Groza for our 8th grader and her ISEE prep. HUGE difference in approach. They quickly ascertain areas of weakness and dive in to fully support. Our son was struggling quite a bit with language arts and math shortly after he began 5th grade. Towards the end of last year not only were we faced with having to find a tutoring service to help him catch up, but also to get him prepped for his upcoming middle-school ISEE test. After having reached out to Groza, our son was matched with the best tutors who were able to understand and adjust their sessions to his learning style. He was always reluctant to do any additional after-school work, but after his first session he had asked us to set up more! This year has been extremely difficult for everyone. Groza Learning were able to adapt to the current situation with school closures and stay-at-home orders incredibly quickly. Our son is continuing his lessons online, we are constantly being updated on the status of his learning progress with thorough email reporting, AND we are looking forward to the next academic year with the GREAT news of him having been accepted to a private middle school we were all wishing for. We sent our kids here and unfortunately realized their approach is sub standard. After six classes we realized that we were not progressing. We ended up hiring private tutoring thru Compass to help with ISEE prep and achieved great results in half the time. I recommen going straight to there. My husband's daughter, Mia, starting living with us full time at the end of her Junior year in high school. I quickly realized she was struggling in school and needed help. I met with Scott at Groza Learning Center, and I was so impressed about his sincerity and commitment to improving student's grades and study skills. They have given Mia the tools on how to study, be more organize and prioritize what is important. Over the nine months, Mia grades have improved dramatically. Groza Center has created this team around Mia, that I call Team Mia. I feel a part of the team too. For every tutoring session Mia attends, I get a report. Which is so helpful to me as I know exactly what is going on academically with Mia. It makes Mia feel very special that she has so many people helping her be successful. That they truly care. During those six years , Scott Groza and his erudite crew have expertly guided our son through a variety of academic challenges including homework, essay work, High school entry test prep, and finals prep. Like so many moms, I was stressed out about my children falling behind during the quarantine because I'm not a teacher and many days I fell short in completing lesson plans because I was also trying to maintain my own sanity. I was also concerned about the effects on my kids of not having to focus on something structured outside of the home. Groza has been a saving grace. Their experts tutors/teachers were able to gauge if they had fallen behind in one session as age/grade academic assessments has been part of their services for years. Miss. I have seen my 4th grade student gain a tremendous amount of confidence academically, which translates to other areas of his life. This is his second year at Groza. He has had three different tutors, each one outstanding. My experience with tutoring is limited, but I am so impressed with this learning center. The facility is inviting. Reports from the individual tutors are sent to the parents after each session, detailing the work done that day, areas that need help, and suggestions for what to work on at home. I was looking for a tutor for my 8 year old and was quoted $125/hr by the front desk. I heard this was a prestigious place so I asked who would be tutoring my child. I looked up the young woman on linkedin, who by all accounts seemed very nice, but she only had less than 1 year work experience and was just out of school. I have no problem paying for quality, but working odd jobs myself growing up it just doesn't seem right to charge $125/hr for work that the tutor would be happy earning $15-20. read more
