There are two types of clients: 1 - those who read the reviews of Gruenberg Law and immediately run away. Clearly, this firm is NOT here to hold hands and listen to sob stories. 2 - those who recognize that Josh doesn't waste time on clients with weak cases. They spend their time where they know they can win. I'm the latter of the two, and can confidently say that I made the right decision retaining Gruenberg Law. If you read through the other 1 star reviews, you'll notice it's people critiquing the way Joshua spoke to them. Instead of acknowledging that, he deflects by commenting on them personally or telling them that they didn't have a case. I wont go into too much detail about my experience with him because it's the same as all the other 1 star reviews. He said I didn't have a case, which is fine; the point of the call was to determine if I had a case or not. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask but apparently it did? Genuinely confused why you felt it was necessary to be so rude and condescending. I have no issue with getting straight to the point but there's a way to do it with some decorum. And since you or someone from your firm will probably respond with some unprofessional and lame comeback that completely misses the point of the review, I'll just say this. You're entitled to respond however you'd like, but from an outside perspective, your responses are giving middle aged man with a fragile ego. At least do better on your comeback game. My experience with Gruneberg Law--specifically Josh--was absolutely awful. I genuinely don't understand how this guy is still in business. The moment he got on the phone, his attitude was dismissive, rude, and downright condescending. He clearly had zero interest in helping, answering questions, or even allowing me to finish a sentence. He acted like my questions were a waste of his time and made it obvious he didn't want to hear anything I had to say. His lack of professionalism was unbelievable. I walked away shocked that someone in a client-facing profession could behave this way and still expect people to trust them with legal matters. If this is how he treats someone simply trying to get information, I can't imagine how poorly he must treat actual clients. I strongly suggest avoiding Josh and Gruneberg Law altogether. There are plenty of attorneys who actually listen, communicate respectfully, and take their work seriously--this is not one of them. read more

Beautiful office place, However, Josh Gruenberg is one cold hearted attorney. I went in today for a consultation on my potential case, after discussing for only about 20 minutes, he rushed me into trying to sign the contract with him, and when I told him I would like to read it over to get a full understanding of what I'm signing, he put his hand out for the contracts, took them and threw them out in front of my face, and said he will not be taking the case anymore and that I can go ahead and get out, and walked to his door and opened it to let me out and said I can let myself out from there. Just a very off putting man. His other attorney Samantha however, was nice and was the only one truly listening to me. Very disappointed with this interaction. No client should be rushed into signing anything, then on top of that be treated disrespectfully. Red flag law firm. Update: attached is Josh's response to my review.... You told me you wanted my case then gave me a contract to sign. Why would you give me contract to sign if you initially thought I was going to be a "horrible witness to myself". You turned down my case after I told you I would like to read over everything before I sign it to get a better understanding. I reached out for assistance expecting to be treated with respect and professionalism, but was instead met with dismissiveness and an aggressive demeanor. It's particularly striking and concerning that someone who is supposed to advocate on behalf of a person inquiring would behave in such a manner. Josh Gruenberg's law firm represented us in a case. The fee for this law firm is 40% of all settlement earnings. Meaning, if Josh settles a case for the client for $1,000, he is immediately paid $400 and you take home $600. I asked other lawyer friends of mine, and they agreed that 40% is the absolute highest fee that would be deemed barely ethical in the legal field. Because Josh has such a high incentive to settle quickly as to minimize costs to his firm, he indeed settled our case in record time. Instead of fighting for a higher settlement over say the course of 6 months or a year, our case was settled in a matter of weeks at far less than we thought was reasonable. In fact, Josh began settlement proceedings without us even present. Josh doesn't really seem to make time for clients, at least in my case. I've actually worked in this field and this doesn't have to be how it's done. His paralegal was very kind and quick to respond, however, so I will give them that. I put in a ton of work into the case in terms of building the timeline and producing documents. I really wish I had stood up for myself more. I felt taken advantage of. Lawyers, especially employment lawyers, have an ethical imperative to do right by their clients and put some justice back in the world. Josh has chances to do this every day, but would rather get paid as priority #1 and then clients as priority #2. read more

Definition of Re-victimization: Describes the experience of a person being victimized or traumatized after the original trauma. I spoke briefly with Counselor Gruenberg via phone concerning my situation and why I was hoping he could help me. His attitude toward me was arrogant, superior and agressive. He grilled me about why I was calling him and why I felt I had a case against my employer. I explained the issue to him and he agreed that my employer was acting illegally but the possible settlement amount wouldn't be worth his time and effort. I understand that Mr. Gruenberg is running a business and that he needs to maximize his profits. I do not fault him for this. Counselor Gruenberg needs to understand when people are calling him concerning a possible lawsuit, that person already feels they have been the victim of something unjust. By belittling that person and making that person feel like they are not worth the time will again victimize that person. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day, but people in his line of work always need to treat people reaching out to them with a little more compassion and dignity, regardless if they feel that person's situation is not important or worth the time. Josh Gruenberg represented me in my case against former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. I know many people are familiar with my case as it was in the paper and on the news several times. The truth is that what the Mayor did to me was terrible. He harassed me, humiliated me and scared me. I felt like I had no one to turn to. The city was denying it knew of Mr. Filner's behavioral issues when it came to sexual harassment. Mr. Gruenberg and his associate, Daphne Delvaux took Mr. Filner's deposition for two days. Mr. Gruenberg also took many depositions of other city employees, including the Mayor's Chief of staff, other staffers, the Human Resource Director of the City and many other third party witnesses. He worked with my doctors to make sure they knew why their depositions were being taken by the city's lawyers. Josh and Daphne were eager and willing to take my case to trial. However, before the trial, the trial judge ordered us to go to mediation which we did. It was through that process that the case settled.
