Once found , we were very pleased to see parking - rare in Edinburgh. The rooms were well appointed , a little small, and at first extremely noisy. We were on the first floor and could hear the clomping of guests on the exposed wood stairs. The breakfast room was also very near our door and I was thinking there was to be no sleeping - but I was wrong. Somehow , magically , the noise didn't wake us - I am a very light sleeper too. Whatever the sound dynamic was in the place - I slept very comfortably and quietly. If we were going to be spending time in our rooms , I would have found the space restrictive but for a good nights rest , it was great. The only other thing I felt was a head scratcher was the bathroom mirror. Very space age, 3-D type design that completely did not go with the decor. The breakfast room was lovely and the food was very good. The hosts are happy to accommodate your every need. They had umbrellas for the rain and a very nifty call button that summoned a cab in under 10 minutes ! It's location is walkable to some things but since you could have your car on property , it's easy to drive anywhere you want to go within a few minutes. Come and stay and enjoy this cozy gem in the midst of busting Edinburgh.

Specials are prepared on the weekends. This meal is so hardy you won't need lunch. Bedrooms are comfortable, clean, and beautifully appointed. The beds are as comfortable as any top tier hotel. The rooms can be blacked out for a very quiet deep long sleep. I slept better here then I have in months anywhere else. Good free high speed internet that is fast enough to stream video. We adored Paul and my hubby admitted he had a man-crush on him. The rooms come in three styles, Couture, Bespoke and Tailored. We stayed in the Lagavulin room on the top floor with a window view of the back garden and hills in the distance. The room was a bit small but comfortable. The bed is probably a full size which might not be ideal for two persons if you are use to more space. The spacious bathroom was sleek and modern and the heated floors were perfect for chilly mornings. The location is a little away from town but you can easily catch a bus in front of the B&B. DO NOT miss the breakfast here! This is truly a gourmet breakfast served in a most beautiful breakfast room. I had for the first time the traditional Scottish breakfast that came with a poached egg, bacon, sausage haggis and blood sausage. I have to say that I quite enjoyed the haggis. The porridge there is also very good unlike the kind you get in the states.

It was new, but I don't know that it will be serviceable a couple years from now. The shower doors didn't close completely, so I had to shower carefully to avoid getting water on the floor. While breakfast was good overall, the mushrooms were clearly from a can, and they put out Kraft Cheese Singles. So I think this place has great potential to be a four- or five-star place. It's solid, but the other places in the same or lower price range that we stayed in were better.

When we arrived, Mr. Ramsay offered us whisky, and then handed us a map and circled all of the points of interest we wanted to see. He made sure we had everything we needed, and answered any questions we had. It's located close enough to the center of the city that you don't quite need public transportation; Edinburgh Castle is only a 15 minute walk, and Norrie gives such great directions that we weren't lost once! The accommodations are also far enough away from the main hustle and bustle that you don't hear any traffic or pedestrian noise. We enjoyed complimentary hot chocolate in our room, and the full Scottish breakfast was to die for! However having just stayed 1 night at the end of February in the worst winter for years, the windows in room 9 let in a cold draft and made the room cold. The heating was on but radiators just luke warm all evening/night. Before going out for the evening I asked if we could have an extra blanket for the bed and the duty manager said she would put in it. On returning from our evening, found no blanket. so I trotted down the stairs and asked "where is my blanket and why isnt the radiator any warmer?" she replied "I have put it in the room" "which room number?" "7 she replied", Im in 9!!!! got me a fan heater for the night. In the room booklet it said free wifi, when I checked my fone it had a padlock on the signal and without the key i was pooped, I wasnt going to get out of bed to trot down the stairs again! I brought this up with the manager on departure and she said "I would have given it to you" I replied "why dont you just put it in the folder" They seemed a little reluctant to absort this information in the "However section", hence the 3 stars.

The bathroom was large and there were lots of nice natural light. Room had tv, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits. The building is stone and WiFi can be difficult (like any accommodation that is stone built). Once you sit in the dining room WiFi was fine. The location is fantastic, far enough from the crowd and close enough to walk to all the tours sites. We were suggested to walk through the gardens that sits parallel to the main Princess street. It's beautiful with all the flowers as we stroll through this garden to the National Gallery and to the Old City. The B& B is near the off and on bus line one short block away. We were situated in a lovely courtyard. Don't let the initial entry into the building fool you. We were a bit taken back with it too when we first got there. Once inside the B & B, all is well. It's spartan and clean. The conversation and knowledge from our hosts is what made our stay nice. Each breakfast (which sometimes linger for 2 hours because of our conversation) has really made our trip personal. We were there for 3 mornings. If you want to understand from a local perspective, this is the way to go. Take part of their history with you. Our host Duncan is fluent in at 3 to 4 languages and worked for many years as a tour guide all over Europe. His love for history is evident in his knowledge of all that he advises about what to see while in Scotland. His recommendations for sight seeing and schedule of when to get there as well as restaurants were dead one. Our other host Walter (pictured here) was a delight!
