From the time we initiated the booking, owner Cathy Bokman could not have been more helpful, gracious or accommodating. She and husband George own 5 cottages in town and have for years, so they know the area well. When we contacted Beachcomber Cottages, we didn't request a specific house (all are listed on their website), just asked availability at any of them. We got waaaaaayyyy more than we bargained for--the place is huge! Beachcomber III is on "The Point", that is, it is located at the tip of the peninsula (opposite end of the "Downtown" entrance) upon which the Town of Colonial Beach is situated. This section is mostly residential, as opposed to downtown where most of the businesses and the busy public beach are found. At this end, there are marinas, a couple of restaurants and a popular tiki bar, but the house is far enough away that you don't hear anything. It is a very peaceful and quiet setting, with mature trees and a clear view to the Potomac River and a small beach. About that view...the morning after we arrived, I woke up early, walked into the living room (one of them, but more on that later) and pulled back the curtains. GASP! I was greeted with a breathtaking pre-dawn view of the sun just about to rise over the horizon of the Potomac River. I stood frozen, completely awestruck as I watched one of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot!) The beauty of this town is overwhelming. The house itself looks brand new. I understand the owners had done a complete renovation and the result is spectacular. Everything was white glove clean. The layout, though, is what impressed me most. It is almost like being in two separate houses, connected by a shared kitchen and dining area. There are two big living rooms on opposite ends of the house, 4 bedrooms (2 masters, again separated by the kitchen) and more bathrooms than I could count (at least 3.) There is also a laundry room with full size washer and dryer, a nice sized front porch and a side porch with grill. There were only two of us, but I could see this as the ideal vacation for extended families, those with kids/teenagers or groups of friends. There is just so much space. Probably 3x the size of my former apartment in DC. The place is well equipped with a fully stocked kitchen (utensils, small appliances, spices, etc.), bathrooms with hair dryer, towels, etc. and a family room (one of the living rooms) with games, books, TV (in the bedrooms, too), DVD, etc. We didn't want for anything. Beds were comfortable, linens provided and pillows fluffy. Free wifi, too. Loved it!

Got away on a road trip for our anniversary. We usually pick a place to lay our heads and then do…read moreday trips in surrounding area. Enjoyed our time at the Colonial Beach Plaza B and B. Was greeted at door by our host who helped carry in a bag and showed us to our first floor room. The approx. 120 year old house is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The hosts Misunn and David took excellent care of us, breakfast was good and catered to food a allergy. A full kitchen with a common refrigerator, coffee, tea and other drinks are available 24 hours. The entertainment room, included in the room rate, had all kinds of arcade games, memorabilia, movies, vinyl records with record player, board games and much much more. We were invited to enjoy the whole house, pool and patio which is only two lots from waters edge if relaxing on beach is how you want to spend your time. There are usually events happening in area year round such as oyster, wine, beer, BBQ festivals so check the net. This area is also close to history items such as George Washington's birth place and many others. We plan on returning in future.

The house we purchased was not exactly what we had told Sherry we were looking for, but after hearing our feedback on other properties, she decided to show us the home we ended up purchasing. She was great to work with during all phases of our search and purchase. She moved to Colonial Beach from Northern VA, so understands the needs of NoVA buyers investing in a weekend/vacation home.
