    Braised beef noodles
    Kevin E.

My Taiwanese friend said this is one of the few restaurants in NYC that actually serve authentic Taiwanese food so I had to give it a try since I was in the area. We arrived around ~1pm on a weekday and there were seats available for dine-in but we opted for takeout because we weren't that hungry and their dine-in menu only consists of $20+ combos that include a main, popcorn chicken, a few sides and a drink. Don't worry about finding somewhere to sit down and eat at if you opt for take-out! There's a food hall conveniently located a few blocks away with tables available for dining. Lu rou fan- Loved this!! The flavor and consistency of the sauce is exactly what it's supposed to taste like. Braised beef noodles- Absolutely loved the springiness of the noodles and the depth of the aromatic soup. The beef was very tender and was braised properly because the meat fell apart as soon as I bit into it. Bok choy to the rescue in helping mellow out the heaviness of the meat and broth. Aside from the delicious and authentic food, the service was also very friendly and quick. I ordered at the kiosk up front and got my order within 10 mins after I ordered. I do think the beef noodle soup, although tasty, was a bit overpriced but the Lu rou fan was definitely worth it. It is highly likely I'll be back if I'm ever in the mood for Taiwanese food.

Food is incredible but my most recent visit I told the hostess, after an hour of waiting, that I had to step out to use the bathroom (they don't have one). Within 5 minutes of me going around the corner and back they said my table was ready, then promptly cancelled my spot (check screenshot, it was literally one minute apart) and said I had to get back on line. No love for the food can repair that experience. Good lord.

Disappointed with the bento box - Popcorn Chicken Bento 鹽酥雞便當

I desperately wanted to like this place because I've been on the long search for authentic good Taiwanese food on the east coast. The food is authentic but the bento boxes (at least when you order to go) can really be improved. We ordered the popcorn chicken bento box and was just shocked at how much white rice they give you and little amount of popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was nothing special. It also came with vermicelli and this really bland Napa cabbage as sides. Honestly vermicelli as a side is so strange and overload on carbs - I think it'll be better if it was switched out to another vegetable such as bean sprouts, green vegetables, etc.. I was surprised they didn't flavor the white rice with braise pork sauces. With how much competition Gulp has around the neighborhood they really need to improve on their bento box selections. Their breakfast menu actually stands out more to me than their regular menu. The options are pretty affordable. The place has a more casual cafe ambiance than a sit down restaurant ambiance. Maybe if I had dined in it would be a different experience? The photos had looked better for the dined in Bento boxes for some reason. The take out was mediocre.

Great takeout spot. We came here not realizing that there's only 6 counter seats. Luckily we were able to get seated within 15 minutes. I ordered the beef noodle soup set. It was so much food. The beef was so tender, it was falling apart and melted in my mouth. Staff even offered more noodles at the end if we wanted, but we were already stuffed. There's also a really vibey Japanese record bar in the back for an after-dinner activity.

Gulp is my favorite Taiwanese spot in LIC! I ordered dinner from here twice and each time was amazing so I decided to come in person today for breakfast. Before I talk about breakfast, I'll talk about dinner. They give generous portions for their Lu Rou fan and bento sets. I also like how their pork is lean and not fatty - which is really important for me. They package it well too in quality bags. For breakfast, they serve set menus if you sit in restaurant and it's pleasant being able to see your food made right in front of you. Limited seating but the vibe is kind of eat and leave, so not a big deal. The lady who took our order was also really nice and asked if it was our first time visiting/how we heard about them, which I appreciated because it shows they remember their customers 10/10 highly recommend!!!

Very solid place especially since it's one of the few places in LIC thats open late on a weekday! It was a cold winter night, and I really wanted to have soup, so having their beef noodle soup really hit the spot. Really like how they have these sets, and the one I got came with a free extra serving of noodles to fully utilize the soup. This place is really small (only 5ish seats of bar seating). If you need to use the bathroom, you need to go to the secret bar in the back and use theirs. There were a lot of take out orders, so I imagine this restaurant is manly servicing people who live in the area. My main complaint is that compared to Taiwan, the prices are so much higher. No fault to the restaurant since I'm sure this is a symptom of US and NYC pricing, but if you make a direct comparison food always will taste better when it's better value. Overall would recommend especially as a late night weekday place when there's less competition for dining in seating (waited ~10 minutes).

WOW! This is hands down my favorite taiwanese spot in NYC. Which is high praise because there's a lot of good food in the city that in order to stand out, you have to be extremely good. I love how small and intimate this location is, it feels like I'm back in taiwan. There's only five seats at the bar but you can put your name on the waitlist and grab a drink at their speakeasy in the back. My friends and I didn't wait too long, it was perfect timing cause by the time we finished our drink, our seats were ready. We each got a set (required if dining in and honestly such a great value). They started us off with a sample of their homemade chicken broth which was unlike any broth. So rich and healing. I got the Lu Rou Fan which was my favorite. One of my friends got the beef noodle soup, very flavorful. And my other friend got the half chicken half pork bowl.

Outstanding. Be prepared for a bit of a wait if you are planning to sit inside but well worth it. Highly recommend the beef noodle soup set. Add a bit of the pickled greens and let thr soup do the rest. Once again the best version of this I have had in the US. Great service.

I got the dry noodle set and loved the meal! My favorite was the fried chicken side. A lot of the dishes reminded me of some viet dishes and felt very familiar. The place is small inside although it is a great experience to eat here! I would go again. Each set was wonderfully priced with packed flavour! The mushrooms were also amazing from here! I would buy them in bulk if I could!

Small place, great food! Their fried chicken is very flavorful with a great crunch. Their braised pork rice is a good portion and is packed with flavor. Service is quick and chefs are very polite.

Pork chop over rice and Jasmine green tea
    Maria R.

Ordered delivery. I got the pork chop with rice and extra pork sauce. The pork chop meal was really good but to charge $4 for extra pork and give so little is kind of crazy. The jasmine tea was OK a little watery. Flavors for the food were good and enjoyed the veggies.

I was quite surprised that I actually loved this place! Their lunch options are a fair price for how filling they are. I tried the dry braised pork noodles and they were delicious. The noodles were the perfect, bouncy texture and the meat was hearty. The popcorn chicken was very crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The breading was the perfect amount, not too much. Im surprised by how good this was! The side is just okay. They're very friendly and the service is great. It's a small place with limited dine in seating. Happy to return!

    Lu Rou Fan Bento 滷肉飯便當
    Carla H.

Gulp is a good Taiwanese spot in LIC with rich and flavorful comfort food. The space is small and service is good, but with only 5 or so seats, I would definitely do takeout if it's dinner time as waits probably get long even though food comes out fast. We tried the lu rou fan (braised pork) lunch combo, and it was very good. It was quite oily though, but that's to be expected. The sides were fun, especially the crispy chicken, light veggies, and refreshing tea. I also had the braised beef noodle soup, their signature. While the noodles and broth were tasty, the beef shank itself wasn't the best cut and leaned a little too cartilage-y for me. One negative, you can only do combos when dining in, which makes it a lot of food (and a bit pricey). Overall, a good meal! Small nitpicks here and there but would come back for round 2.

But he waved at the couple behind me and told me before I could even speak, and in a rude tone "you have to wait , there are too many orders" and proceeded to give the food to the couple . I was annoyed because I had no idea the couple behind me had preordered food and I did not intend to cut any "line". The dish was more of a Sichuan/Mala type of seasoning rather than something you expect to see from Taiwanese fried chicken. I did wish they use that kind of seasoning instead. With such a big portion of chicken, I also wish they had more of a variety of dark and white meat, as I had mostly white. Really tasty. I tried the scallion noodles, vegetable dumplings, century egg with tofu, and…read moreTaiwanese mochi. The noodles were my favorite dish - hearty and flavorful, with a pleasant texture and plenty of aromatic flavor. The dumplings were pan fried, with a well seasoned filling and slightly crispy texture. The century egg and tofu was nice, with strong flavors from the egg balancing against the mild tofu. And the mochi was a nice and simple sweet end to the meal. My partner also enjoyed the la rou fan. The bill came to $72 after tax and tip, which is pretty reasonable for the huge quantity of food (we definitely ordered too much). For sure worth a try.

On more than one visit, the beef contained large amounts of sinew and cartilage that were not properly rendered. This isn't just a texture preference -- it's connective tissue that would normally break down if the meat were braised long enough. I've attached a photo showing what was served. The first time this happened, I mentioned it to the staff, and they agreed the meat quality was poor and told me management had instructed them to serve it anyway. The next couple of visits were much better, so I assumed the issue had been addressed. However, on my most recent visit, the same problem returned. When I raised it again, the woman at the front told me that this was "edible for all of us in the back" and suggested it was a personal issue rather than a preparation or quality problem. I'm not expecting premium cuts, but when a dish relies on long-braised beef, excessive cartilage and sinew shouldn't be the norm -- especially when staff themselves have acknowledged the issue in the past. Consistency and how feedback is handled really matter, and unfortunately this experience left me hesitant to order the dish again.
