    Salt and Pepper Calamari

Was not impressed with this place. Seems like a lot of regulars frequent this Playa Vista corner restaurant/bar. Extremely loud and busy due to a few tables with adults letting their children run wild around the place. Service was good but almost too hover-y, and the single guy at the table behind us was so drunk he had to be cut off and kicked out of the restaurant. We ordered the fried calamari appetizer, which arrived in a huge plastic martini glass. It was ok but looked like way more seafood than it actually was due to the giant pile of fries underneath (and our sandwiches already came with copious amounts of french fries). I ordered a fried chicken sandwich on a pretzel bun that was so hard and stale I was unable to even bite into it, so had to disassemble the sandwich and eat the chicken separately. Boyfriend's burger was ok, nothing special. Not worth returning to.

We ordered the burrito of Del Rey with tater tots to go. The burrito is delicious with bacon, beans, and guac. Tater tots still held the crunchy texture when we got home (10 mins walk). Served with ketchup, green and red salsa. Yummy!

In the area for a little weekend get away. My friends and I came here for dinner. We started off with drinks (not pictured) which were all good; wine, beer and a cocktail. For an appetizer we had garlic pretzel knots. They were delicious! Fresh chopped garlic on warm pretzel knots. The beer cheese paired very well with the flavor profile of the garlic! You can never go wrong with garlic. For my entree I had the Gulp Club Sandwich. It was good. It had grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and a Cajun aioli. I do wish there was a little bit more of the aioli as that kick was much desired. It came with fries or a salad. I opted for "Gulp Fries" which was regular fries and sweet potato fries. Fries were okay..needed a touch more seasoning. My friends ordered steak fajitas which smelled delicious! Generous portion (2 of them shared one dish) with all the fixins'. Service was great. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is nice was well. Seating inside and outside with numerous TV's to watch any sports games. Dog friendly also! Definitely a great spot!

Dropped in for an early dinner with my son. They weren't busy and took care of us right away. They have a great beer selection and some fun cocktails if you're feel adventurous. I loved my grilled chicken club sandwich. Simple but well done. My son enjoyed the buffalo chicken sliders. And we. It's couldn't get enough of the batter dipped fries. They are really good! We were too full for dessert but I will say I was impressed with the creativity of their dessert jar options. I would definitely make a trip out just to give them a try! Great local gem in Playa Vista!

Gulp is a local neighborhood spot in Playa del Rey. It's in the heart of the neighborhood so it quiet and peaceful. No valet as there's street parking but because it's in the middle of a neighborhood it may be a challenge to find a spot. We never have a problem though. There's no wait. The service is always excellent. The food is good and the drinks are too. A good place to watch sports as they do have a full bar and tv's. Its located in a nice neighborhood across from a park. A nice local spot to hang out watch the game and have good and drinks

    Empty bottles at the bar
    Kara G.

Ummm.. why are there so many empty bottles on display at 8pm on a Saturday night? My guests and I were denied several bottles of preference because they were "unavailable".

Two egg breakfast and extra crispy bacon--dont judge me, this is what I want. I want to break teeth on my bacon.

You know what you're getting into when you go to Gulp. It's solidly consistent bar food. I like their happy hour half portioned Chinese chicken salad, which is STILL huge. My main reason for coming here is brunch though. I just want a good, no frills, two egg breakfast. This place provides that. It's two eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, and choice of toast (with a tiny scoop of butter and prepackaged jam). Gulp delivers on this and I will be back.

The pickles and lettuce came on the side with some carrot sticks and ranch. No complaints here. Service: The bartender is a nice lady but I think the only one working and so you must order at the bar. Our food was ready and we had to wait a little for it but not a huge deal. While my bartender was very kind a super cool, the food is now a HUGE disappointment. The large order used to have 4 large pieces of fish, now it's only 3 small pieces that are heavily breaded with some sort of chewy/gummy dough. The bread is super tiny and barely equivalent to a small slice of a tiny French baguette. The carrot cuts are also much smaller. Way to ruin a good thing. Save your money and drive out to Malibu Seafood to still get that authentic pub style fish taste. Come for a drink, but no the fish. It's not the same classic taste that used to make me drive miles for. Of course, I ate it because I was beyond starving and hate wasting food but today may forever be my last hooray as the fish is what drew me here. It was always cooked to perfection and taste, but alas those days are gone. New ownership? I don't know but pinching a penny should be worth losing folks over lesser quality food. I beg of you to fix it. They also provide suggested gratuity based on total WITH tax. Check your bills as you should only be tipping on food service.

My friend, who is Black, and I, who am Hispanic, entered the establishment. Before entering the bar my friend drank his water bottle and threw it outside in there trashcan. At no point were we consuming alcohol. Despite this, the bartender accused my friend of drinking a Modelo beer, which was untrue. To clarify, it was early in the morning and we only had water with us before even entering the establishment.During those hours of the day there is not anywhere you can even purchase a Modelo. We do not even drink Modelos either which we thought was funny of even being accused of doing something like that. We even explained to him to check the camera footage again to see it was just a smart water he threw away. My friend briefly walked to the trash can to During our time there, we observed that we were the only customers of color present who were not being served, while the bartender continued to serve white customers. When we calmly asked the bartender about the situation and why we were not being served, he became defensive and refused to provide his name after we expressed concern that the treatment felt discriminatory. His response was that he did not feel comfortable giving his name after we raised the issue of racism. We really wanted to just check this place out because we thought it was funny how a bar opens so early. Yet, we left feeling upset over all this. Based on the circumstances, the experience felt unfair and discriminatory. We simply wanted to be treated with the same respect and service as other customers. I hope management reviews this situation seriously and ensures that all patrons are treated equally and respectfully in the future.

Everything we ordered was enjoyable, and the kitchen did a great job. The reason for the 3-star review is the service experience. Our server, who also appeared to be tending bar and possibly handling multiple responsibilities, came across as somewhat dismissive at times. For example, when I asked if the lemonade was freshly made, he jokingly replied, "Haha, not here." While it may have been intended as humor, it didn't come across very professionally. My elderly mother also had to ask several times for ketchup, and although he acknowledged her with a wave and indicated he would return, it took longer than expected. There was also some confusion with one of our orders, and a beer that seemed a bit flat. I want to be fair because the food was good, and I understand that service issues can sometimes be the result of understaffing, lack of training, or management challenges rather than one individual. My intention is not to criticize anyone personally but to provide constructive feedback. I normally don't write reviews, especially negative ones, but I felt this was worth mentioning because the restaurant has a lot of potential. With a little more attention to customer service and communication, the overall experience could easily match the quality of the food.

I work in the area. I've been there quite a few times at different times of day at different times of the year. This evening, myself and my partner got back to the area after attending a graduation at the college. We walked in around 8:20/8:25pm and took a seat. We hadn't had dinner yet and were just looking for a late meal. The place was busy, it was before Trivia Night started. At around 8:40, no one had come by yet to say Hi and I hadn't seen any wait staff walk by, so I stood patiently at the bar for a minute or so to inquire if we ordered at the bar or if it was table service. It was indeed table service so I went back to the table to wait. An employee (the name Peri was on the receipt) came by the table and we, perhaps too enthusiastically, said that we were definitely ready to order. My partner gave our drink orders and she briskly asked for the card for the tab and took off. We still needed to tell her our food order. We thought she might have just needed to put the card on file and would be back to finish up. Nope. A different server came by to drop off our drinks, and we mentioned to her that we would like to order food. She gave us a vacant look and walked away. So now we're at around 8:50/8:55 and we need to get something in our system. At 9pm Peri (?) comes by the table again to check on us (I think it might have been due to our pleadingly awkward attempt to try to make eye contact with her as she was walking by) and we're just ready to leave and grab food somewhere else. We let her know that we were put off by the timeframes, and I feel that we handled it politely but directly, but then she holds up the digital ordering handheld and shows us that the time on it read 8:46pm. I pointed out to her that yes, that's when we finally were able to order, but we had been sitting there for about 20 minutes before that. We paid and left. Pretty much 35 minutes and we hadn't yet been able to order food. Observing the crowd, we noticed that staff seemed to check more frequently on tables that already had food or had finished their food before approaching tables that were filled around the time when we had sat down. I get it, it's busy. I've been there other times when it's very busy and service is quick and efficient. The past several years of the Downtown Taste Of The Summer - third Wednesdays series are some of my fav chaos energy visits. At this point, it's a mixed bag. 2 stars though because the guy pours a proper Guinness, and it's closer than walking down the road to the other pub. The ambiance is pretty much what's to be expected for a lively downtown sports pub.
