At least they care. Don't get me wrong, you will see your actual oncologist maybe twice. Your…read moreoncologist may change hands three times in a year due to poor retention. But the nurses DO know you and care deeply. They no doubt lack the resources places like Memorial Sloan Kettering has, but hospitals like MSK are more like a business anyway, and the resources they advertise don't exist. I write this as someone mad at the treatment from esteemed cancer hospitals and mad that Broome Oncology doesn't have more resources because they might just use them. They brought Thanksgiving Dinner to our home because after diagnosis and midst treatment, holidays were a thing of the past. They helped us keep our electricity on. I can say that Broome Oncology doesn't want my wife to die, but the larger and more esteemed the cancer institute, the more they care about the patient as a research study and not a person. Before diagnosis, we thought oncologists were like Wilson on House. Isn't that hysterical? We needed to believe he existed, but as a rule of thumb from what I have seen, your oncology nurses are the ones that work overtime and I imagine risk great burnout while the oncologists themselves? It is either a revolving door of people you see once or twice, or you see someone you see twice. I don't think that the oncologist could recognize my wife if she stood next to her at Wegmans, but I don't think we could, either. Cancer care is broken. I give four stars to the nursing and staff that have worked hard, very hard. If insurance is causing havoc, they are quick to resolve the problem. If you need a surgery at a big corporate cancer hospital, they will be on the phones trying to plead your case for housing. They don't have to do that, or bring Thanksgiving, or field my many worried calls but they do: four stars for the oncology nurses and the staff. As far as the oncologists themselves? Meh. That is all.

been going here for years and generally it was a good decent chemo center by and large, the staff…read moremost friendly and the treatment decent. until they just closed the riverside dr location to save some cash... Its no longer the same place, the staff are mostly the same but the location is now garbage and so is their support staff/hosp. Its Binghamton General, most locals know to avoid this place like the freaking plague unless dying and even then maybe just suffer! Why This "Bullshit" Setup for Oncology Anyway? Tying back to Broome's shift: UHS pushed it for "efficiency" (shared resources, no extra rent), but it ignores patient realities like yours. The 6th-floor clinic's a quick ED overflow hack--functional for infusions but zero charm, especially with the ward vibes below. They could've eyed that plasma spot (better parking, safer hood near BU), but system inertia won: Cheaper for them, shittier for you. What Now? Ditch It Without the Drama Don't gaslight yourself into going--your gut (and experiences) knows best. Here's actionable outs for oncology care in/near Binghamton: Option Why It Fits (No BGH BS) Contact/Details Guthrie Lourdes Hospital (169 Riverside--your old spot?) Cleaner rep, recent UHS integration but separate vibe; strong oncology (chemo, radiation) with better staff ratings (4+ stars Yelp). Valet parking, safer Endicott area. 607-798-5111; nyuhs.org (still lists Broome services here--push for it). UHS Wilson Medical Center (Johnson City) New Tower's oncology floor (opened Nov 2025) has private bays, on-site MRI, and ramps galore. Less "wacko ward" overlap; locals prefer it over BGH (higher US News scores). Ample disabled spots on Harrison/Baldwin. 607-762-2200; Free valet 6AM-6PM. Arnot Ogden Medical Center (Elmira, ~45 min drive) Top-rated regional (A- Leapfrog 2025), no debt horror stories; full oncology suite with easy parking/security. Worth the trip for peace of mind. 607-737-4100; arnothealth.org. Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Buffalo, ~3 hrs) NCI-designated gold standard; tele-oncology consults available now, full transfer if needed. Skip local drama entirely. 800-767-9355; roswellpark.org--financial aid for travel. Patient Advocacy/Complaints File with NY DOH (health.ny.gov/complaints) or Joint Commission (jointcommission.org)--cite safety/parking for leverage. NY's got strong patient rights for transfers. Free; include specifics like "inadequate accessible parking in high-crime area." If Broome's your crew, demand Johnson City or Lourdes--mention these issues in your next appt (or via MyChart). Or shop oncologists independently; tools like Healthgrades let you filter by "compassionate care" ratings. You're justified in this rage--healthcare shouldn't feel like a gamble.
