I can't believe this place has only 3 stars and bad reviews on Yelp. I've been here twice now (the 2nd time being 30 minutes ago), months apart, and both the food and service were near impeccable. Granted we had the same waiter from Medellin, Colombia both times who was exceptionally professional, but the food came out quickly and the restaurant is beautiful compared to most Chilean restaurants.
The restaurant is located in a neighborhood near the intersection of two major roads Manuel Montt and Bilbao where there is a sizable cluster of restaurants in one place (e.g. La Casa Vieja, a new location of Ají Seco and several other Peruvian restaurants, etc.). There is street parking but unlike the 2 aforementioned restaurants, I'm unsure if Guria has a dedicated private parking lot.
Regarding payment, they participate in multiple credit card discount programs as well as have their own free Club Guria discount program which gives you 20% off if you sign up, so I can't imagine anyone pays the "full price" as the discounted prices are also listed on the menu next to each item.
The creamy tomato sauce they serve with the bread is delicious, although I believe they changed their bread since the last time we went to a less tasty bread.
My entree, the "ossobuco Guria" was just as delicious as last time, which is why I wanted to order it again! The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the accompanying potatoes were creamy but not overly so.
I forgot to try my dining companion's entree (doh!) but I did order the goxua for dessert. Goxua is a typical basque dessert that I had never tried before, so unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to and cannot vouch for its authenticity. It was tasty, but I would have liked the carmelized sugar in top to be better carmelized as most of it was still granulated, somewhat ruining the texture of the creamy dessert.
The only thing I was surprised about regarding the service, given how otherwise courteous and professional our server was, is that he didn't ask before charging us the tip on our credit card as is customary in Chile (as it should be!) and which this same waiter did last time. I always pay the full tip but I do like to be asked. I will see if he does it again next time! read more
