There was also a lot of information about the history of fishing and the methods and tools used. They also had a lot of old (1800s) photographs which were nice. There were some stories about smugglers, ship models, some old news clippings and more. I really enjoyed the visit and learned a lot.

E.g I was looking for a Jo Downs bowl for a christmas present and they were more expensive here than on the website. Nice to see the real thing before I shopped online though. Would definitely recommend for a browse and possible unique purchase.

Its name came from Clemens de Scharpenhamm, the owner of the original manor house that was located here. A later owner, Captain Philemon Pownoll,who was a high seas adventurer, made his name in 1762 by capturing a Spanish treasure galleon. With the wealth he secured from this haul, the Captain appointed an architect Sir Robert Taylor to design a new mansion & lovely gardens. These days all sorts of cultural activiies take place here;the view is breathtaking across the river Dart. The interior has a famous cantilevered staircase, matched only in beauty by the much larger one at the National Liberal Club in London. Tells stories of Looe's Fishing history, ship building etc The Old Guildhall is Looe's oldest building!!! Dating around 1500. It is a Tudor building once magistrates court and cells. Right outside you can see a huge Cannon which I believe was from the Spanish Armada. The Cannon used to be infront of a Cafe on the seafront but in recent years has been moved to the Old Guildhall, which serves as a nifty resting place on a drunken Saturday night when you want to rest your feet before heading to Looe's one and only 'nightclub' (see picture) :D
