Fabulous food and good service as usual. We got our grate changed frequently this time which was nice and they helped us get a more comfortable table as we were 5 people plus a baby. It really helped that it was a Wednesday night though--this place does get busy. Great ambiance inside. They shout a Japanese greeting as you walk in. Pics included. We had some great meats, rice, and veggies. Only wish the bigger tables had two grills in them. One doesn't make sense. We couldn't all eat at a normal pace. Gyu-Kaku is primarily a Japanese bbq spot located on the restaurant row section of Main St in White Plains It's also listed on Yelp as the closest spot to me that serves ramen This past Monday I had a real hankering for a bowl on a cold winters day, so decided to give this establishment a try on the spur of the moment for a late lunch I sat at the bar and ordered a Asahi draft (on special) & their tonkotsu ramen The food came out fairly fast and I took my first bite & was immediately disappointed While it certainly looked the part, I've tasted dozens of ramens, but this was far & away the saltiest bowl of ramen I have ever eaten! So much so, I couldn't eat more than a few bites Moreover my complaints to my bartender/server fell on deaf ears...which reeks of poor management Gyu-Kaku may or may not be good for Japanese bbq but I caution folks while dining there, their ramen offerings should definitely be avoided at all costs read more

The only issue here is when it's busy, it can take a while for your next round of meat to come out leading to awkward waiting times which eats at your time period. Here we are 2 years later and not much has changed. This time was a belated mothers day. Thankfully the weather was on our side mild, but we had reservations and didn't have to wait. We arrived and were seated within 5 minutes. Again everything seemed rushed from the time we sat down. No sooner did we pick up the menu we were asked what we would like. Our server Aylin was very attentive. We were finally ready to place our order. Liked the last time the food came out in rapid fire succession , first the salad, immediately after the soup which was sadly tasteless, for miso soup it was more green in flavor. While still working on the soup the plates of meat arrived, plate after plate. On to the food. The selection of meat was the standard chicken which seemed overly pesto like, then there was some other meats that were interesting to say the least. Some of the meat did not get the pleasure of a marinade bath. Some pieces were stuck together, other pieces were not sure almost scrap like. Lol, I'm a bit biased because I used to work at this location, but Gyu-Kaku hits when you want it to hit. Sometimes you just want to pig out (they have AYCE options) and enjoy a few drinks with friends, and this is the right place to do that. Absolutely get the Bistro Hanger and the Corn Butter. My husband loves the Sukiyaki Beef Bibimbap. Space is pretty big; they have a back room, a little cozy corner tucked away with a few tables, and a spacious front. It does get pretty busy on weekends especially in the evenings, so I recommend you make a reservation. Servers are so friendly, and I'm not just saying that because I've worked with them before. I was staying in a hotel around the corner and I decided to pop in for dinner, I always come in for the Spicy Tuna Volcano, it's honestly one of my favorite dishes, but this time I also tried the Garlic Shiyo Cabbage since it's a newer item on the menu and it was amazing, super fresh and crunchy with an amazing sauce on top very straightforward, but delicious. The garlic rice was amazing per usual, and the meat was fresh and tasted amazing. I have been coming to Gyu-Kaku for years and it remains one of my favorite spots because it's always consistent . I love their happy hour. I always do a Mango Mai Tai and they are always bomb, the service is always friendly and fast paced and it's one of my favorite places for good food and good vibes every time it's always a hit. We had a great time here! In the past, I've ordered take-out fro Gyu Kaku, but we decided to go in for an all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ lunch on a random Saturday. The servers were super attentive and helped us understand the ordering/cooking/eating process. We just did the regular menu, not one of the higher-priced ones, and we found that it had everything we wanted and more. All of the things we ordered were really good. They also came by frequently to clean off our grill, as it was getting dirty from the meats and veggies. The ambiance is chill, but it feels fancy, and the restaurant has two sections (front and back), which helps cut down a bit on the noise. We had a great time and will definitely return. read more

I went here for my daughter's 9th birthday. It was five of us. Three adults and two children. We were seated right away. The staff is very friendly and professional. The food was good. I would have loved to give them 5 starts. However, the menu was a bit overwhelming. They brought three different menus and it was difficult to narrow down what we wanted. We settled for the Yakiniku for four, which wound up being perfect because the kids ate some of it too. We also order two kids meals. The kids were not too fond of the selections. They ate the chicken and picked over the corn, rice. edamame and the plum tomatoes. The ambiance was chill and can be enjoyed for a variety of reasons. I've almost always had nothing but great things to say about this place. That is until the manager decided to racially profile me and assume I didn't understand spanish- calling me irresponsible and making a fake timeline to "give the table back" by. We ended up even finishing earlier than his request- also they were taking walk ins whole time no problem. The restaurant was half empty even before that, so really just proves the point. Maybe don't assume you know what languages one speaks, maybe don't talk shit right in front of the customer, and maybe especially not someone who manages within the hospitality food and beverage sector. Poor management and judgement skills clearly. Tipped the staff very generously as always, but damn if I had known prior, I would have explained to give backlash to their manager about screwing them over. Disappointing Experience at GYU-Raw (White Plains) We've been to GYU-Raw many times before and usually have a great experience, but tonight was very disappointing. We arrived around 7:15 PM and quickly realized that our barbecue stove wasn't working. We told our server several times, but he didn't believe us and insisted it was fine. After waiting about 30 minutes, they finally moved us to another table. While transferring the food, the server was talking directly over it, which felt unsanitary. Once we were reseated in the back, we had to wait another 20 minutes before receiving the rest of our order--half of our food was missing during that time. I mentioned everything to the manager. He listened and removed the drinks and noodles from the bill, but it didn't make up for how bad the night was. We've always liked coming here before, but this visit was a real disappointment. Hopefully, they take this feedback seriously and improve the service. read more

I gave them 4 stars as it was a very nice experience overall. The restaurant is located on the heart of downtown White Plains Mew York. Guy-Kaku Japanese BBQ is located in about 18 different states and in Canada. They have almost 20 locations in California, 6 in New York and 8 in Canada. I came here with a few friends to celebrate a birthday which we do every year. They are big red meat eaters so for anyone who is, this place is "heavenly". I usually have red meat a handful of times, maybe 4 times a year. I do have to say, it was a fun experience cooking the meat, and all of the meat was seasoned well. What I will tell you is that if you order one of the BBQ Courses, you will not leave hungry! We ordered the meat lovers course and I don't think, you need to add any side dishes. As they are a chain restaurant in New York they need to post a calorie count. The meat lovers course contains about 1650 calories and that is not including drinks! I usually eat around 2,000 calories for the whole day. It's ok to spurge once in a while. PROS: Our waiter Jaimie was very nice. He was courteous, attentive and explained everything including suggested cooking times well. Plenty of food, different cuts of meat, chicken and you even get shrimp. They include Japanese noodles, Edemami, miso soup, kimchi, and s'mores for desert. This is a great place for kids and groups. They embrace the team spirit and coordinate well. CONS: The food comes out way too fast and at times there was not room for everything. They did their best to clear the plates but that part fell a little short at times. I would definitely recommend them. Overall we had a great time, I would come back here or visit one of their NYC locations closer to my house. read more

I love this place. I have visited many locations when I can since I do not have one near me. I started with the addicting cucumber and the Spicy Tuna Volcano, always Aweosme (dunk the spicy tuna in their spicy sauce which is tasty and not spicy, I bought a bottle to go) then I had my fave, harami miso, and I also tried the filet mignon miso.... Believe it or not, the Harami miso was so much better, so i'll stick with it. I also had the house sake, hot and a lychee martini. Yum! Definitely a favorite spot!
