Now, just because my grandfather used them isn't reason enough for me, but once I started working in high school, I realized why granddad used them. First, the service is excellent. Many of the agents have been there for decades, so there's a sort of personal connection there that I just wouldn't get with an HR Block-type firm. And given that they're a Michigan institution, their first priority seems to be service, not jacking up prices so high that they put a large dent in your returns. The agent determines how much your return costs; after developing relationships with our agents over the years, the cost of our returns has gone down, not up! I guess it's this kind of ethic that keeps me coming back; they THANK me for coming back each year, not only verbally, but financially as well. That's reason enough for me! Oh, and free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cookies doesn't hurt either.

We recently moved from London and needed a place to get our taxes done this year here in Windsor. We came on a snowy Thursday afternoon and Joe the tax professional helped us; he's been working for H&R for about 8 years after he retired from Chrysler. We gave him all of our documents, and he was very thorough in explaining what he was doing and how he was going to get us what we could for our return. He was also great at explaining the fees it would cost for us to get our returns and what would be a faster and better solution. Everyone who had helped us were really nice. Good service, things were explained to us, so we could understand what was going on, and we were able to get our refund right away that day. She went above and beyond the call of duty and I would definitely recommend her. Everything was on the up and up. It took less than an hour for me. There were some hidden fees from the $149 that I thought I was quoted, but truthfully, I did not read the fine print. I would use this company again. UYEN also took on the role of being my therapist. I was in a bad way. She also gave me directions what to do with my broken toe because she cured. I went to give her a $20 tip and she would not take it. She told me to pay it forward. What a gem! I was going through a transitional time in my life and had a few questions regarding taking clinical classes out of state to further my profession. The classes were over $10,000 and I wanted to know if and how it would impact my taxes. The older white male employee who was going to do my taxes seemed highly irritated at my questions and also suspicious. I admit I was not dressed professionally and had probably just got out of my garden, but I'm paying him, so I wasn't concerned. I've got no shame in my game and was multitasking that day. He went on to ask me about my son who had turned 18 that prior year and if he was in college. Currently he wasn't in college. But, he had went to community college for 1 semester the year prior and decided it wasn't for him. The mans reaction was so offensive, rolling his eyes and shaking his head and asking me if I had proof. Since my son was already 18 and he's my first child I had no idea I needed to take his documents. I told him I could get the info and return if it was necessary, but questioned why it would be necessary since I wasn't claiming my son. I honestly wasn't as concerned with 1 term of community college as I was about my expensive 10,000 clinical. My son was working and doing his own taxes anyway. From this jerks reaction I flat out asked him, "Do you think I'm lying?!!!!". He said, YES! I was SO INSULTED!!!!! Who has such low opinions of people that they question 1 term of community college with such contempt! Absurd behavior. I highly doubt he would have treated another man this way.
