Carrie and her team served as my accountant for more than eight years. During the last year of our relationship, I paid approximately $1,100 per month through a membership program that was automatically deducted from my account. This membership was represented as including numerous services; however, I later discovered that some of those services were either not being provided or were difficult to justify at the value assigned to them. When I requested an itemized breakdown, the pricing of individual services appeared inconsistent with what I had previously paid before joining the membership program.
One of the reasons I agreed to pay premium fees was my understanding that Carrie personally reviewed my tax filings before submission. I was later informed that she did not review them herself and that those reviews were performed by staff members.
Her firm handled virtually every aspect of my business finances, including bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation. They received monthly reports detailing the money flowing in and out of my business and were fully aware when I purchased a commercial building for my growing company.
In 2025, I arrived at my office to find a foreclosure notice posted on the door. I learned that my property taxes had not been paid for more than two years and that I owed over $14,000 in delinquent taxes, penalties, and interest. If the balance was not paid in full, foreclosure proceedings could move forward.
As a first-time commercial property owner, I relied heavily on my accountant's guidance regarding tax obligations. It was later discovered that the property tax bills had been sent to a previous address, and I was unaware that the taxes were overdue. Given that my accountant prepared my tax returns and maintained my books, I questioned how two years of unpaid property taxes went unnoticed. Property taxes are a significant business expense, and I would have expected the absence of those payments to raise concerns or prompt questions.
When I brought this issue to Carrie's attention, her response was that she did not know how her firm could have handled things differently. She also claimed that my office had stated we were paying the property taxes. When I asked for documentation supporting that statement, the screenshot she provided did not reflect any such conversation. At no point did we tell her office that we were paying those taxes.
The discussion eventually shifted to comments suggesting that I needed a manager to oversee these matters and that she did not "babysit" client accounts. Recognizing that we were unlikely to reach an agreement, I requested that she contribute toward a portion of the penalties and fees resulting from the oversight. Instead, I received a termination letter ending our professional relationship.
After hiring a new accountant, additional concerns surfaced. He requested records necessary to continue services and identified files that could have been transferred electronically to avoid hours of manual data entry. Those files were not provided in electronic format. As he reviewed my accounts, he discovered multiple errors that required correction, resulting in additional accounting fees. One of those errors had the potential to significantly disrupt my business operations. When notified, the response was simply that she was unsure how it happened and that her staff would address it.
What has been most disappointing throughout this experience is the lack of accountability. Mistakes can happen in any profession. What matters is how they are handled. In my experience, responsibility was repeatedly deflected rather than acknowledged.
This review reflects my personal experience after more than eight years as a client. Others may have different experiences, but based on my own, I cannot recommend this firm.
