Yet, each year our rates continued to rise. We asked why and for dispensation and improvement, but that insurer took a "We Don't Care; the rates are the rates; do what you have to do" position. The coverage offered by State Farm seems adequate and the pricing (based on very little research)…read morecompetitive. Hilda has generally responded to my inquiries promptly and helpfully. Using State Farm became a tremendous hassle after moving states. Perhaps this is due to the fact that insurance regulation is state-based, and thus inconsistent, parochial, and sometimes antediluvian. For instance, State Farm sends me mutually inconsistent notices of cancellation, paper notices of cancellation without advance warning by email, text, or phone (!), and generally byzantine automated missives. At least initially, the coordination between a State Farm California office and a State Farm Connecticut office regarded what coverage I should carry and where was unacceptably poor. This improved somewhat when I cc'ed both offices on nearly all email and had them do the same, so I would recommend taking the same approach not only when moving states but also for several months thereafter, lest you or your agents encounter any unpleasant surprises down the line. State Farm sends way too much paper mail. If that's due in part to the fact that wrongheaded legislators have passed legislation requiring them to do so, that is no excuse -- they should better lobby their legislators. After all, the insurance industry has been tremendously effective lobbying their legislators on, for instance, tax. Insurance is regarded as something of a fuddy duddy industry. Those players who want to win the next generation of insureds will need to be thoughtful about this market, including its relatively frequent moves between states, its preferred communication technologies, and its preference for simplicity and efficiency when it comes to utilities like insurance.

Mr. Levy claims to be a liason with Sallie Mae to help lower student loans for individuals with…read morefinancial difficulties. He hunted us down through another agency we were working with on our financial matters. Mr. Levy told the person handling our affairs to advise us that he knew he could help us to lower our student loans and for us to call him. We called for information because we trusted the agency we were dealing with and met with him a couple of weeks before Xmas. He advised he was eager to get started to negotiate with Sallie Mae on our behalf, however, he needed to be paid for his services upfront. We told him we did not have that kind of money in our checking account before XMAS and he advised that he understood. He then convinced us to give him a pre-dated check, which we did, since he seemed so genuine. He promised to give us updates, however, the only time we heard from him was to see when he could cash our check. We never receieved any type of updates from him via phone, email, or mail. We placed several phone calls to his office the end of December, January, and February and left several phone messages that he never returned. After nuch persistence, we caught him in his office in March and was told he was working on our case with several other people in our situation and was not happy with the offer Sallie May had given to him on our behalf--he never discussed this so called offer with us to see, if we would accept it. After several attempts to get information on the actual work performed for the fee charged, Mr. Levy is at a lost of words. In conclusion, Mr. Levy preys on people in desparate situations to get rich but does not deliver what was promised nor does he provide any backup for the services he was paid for. We gave him one last chance to call us today with information on the negotiations he has had with Sallie Mae on our behalf before advising others of his business practices, but he has not returned the call.
