This outfitter doesn't deserve 1 star, no communication at all, already had hunting dates established, I received this hunt at an SCI convention auction, wanted to change our dates that was already set, 1st day of our hunt told us to stay at a hotel he would reimburse me, he was supposed to call the next day, never did gave him til 12 noon, then I went to the area tracked him down in a greasy spoon dump Cafe, when I approached him at the table he was surprised, he had 3 other hunters sitting at the table when I asked him for the money for the hotel, he was we will work it out, I said ok where is this hunting camp, anyway this guy drove us around he picked up chips from cameras no elk, few does n 1 small buck , he lied about the Indian reservation not allowing any elk hunting on the reservation, so I fact checked him, we'll n behold I showed him they charge $10,000 to hunt elk right in front of 2 other hunters, after 3 days of me driving myself to blinds cause whatever reason he had not to, oil wells, lots of junk cars running with exhaust pumping into gopher holes, I had enough, he said to come back in January- not one word after I tried repeatedly to contact him, Do not use this outfitter bad mojo read more

Hunt was a joke from the guide and sons. No elk at all, hunt takes place on a BLM gas property. Huge cornfield that wasn't cut due to faulty equip. These guys were running around about 500 acres with radios trying to get us clients to believe there were elk there, which were not. Complete joke was Mr. Brett Heiner and his master lying hunt broker "Serge" who wouldn't give us "Heiners" number until we paid deposit...Wat a joke....avoid at all cost! read more

I bowhunted with Bret and his son Brandon in 2016. H&S Guide Service does everything possible to get hunters on game. Everyone in camp (there were four hunters) had opportunities on nice bucks. Three of four connected and the other guy returned later in the season and connected - so, everyone arrowed a Muley. I took a beautiful 180 class 4x4 and messed up on an even bigger deer earlier in the hunt. Accommodations and food are basic but commensurate with the hunt price. It is a gem of a hunt and I'll certainly be back to hunt with Bret and Brandon again. Great guys. Me and three other guys booked a (what was supposed to be guaranteed, 100% success rate) cow elk hunt with this outfit months in advance for a November, 2013 hunt. After we booked our dates, and paid, nothing but crickets from them. Once our hunt was approaching we had to call multiple times just to get the paperwork for our license and tags sent. One week before we were scheduled to leave we had still not heard from the outfitter. We finally contacted him and he wanted to push back our dates. Now, we all have jobs and families so pushing back dates might be easy for him, but not when we have vacation time at work scheduled and extended family coming to help out while we are gone. We all managed to settle on new dates and rearrange our plans for late December, the week before Christmas. One week before we were scheduled to leave the second time - same thing, he wanted to push back our dates into January. This time we could not accommodate, our plans were made and we were going. We drive from San Jose, California to Randlett, Utah and meet our guide at the Pelican Cafe for lunch. Little did we know we'd be eating at this greasy spoon for 90% of our meals the next few days. The menu isn't very large so you quickly grow tired of eating the same things over the course of a week. After lunch the guide led us out to the ranch where we'd be staying. It's a compound consisting of an old mobile home and a few sheds with cots and space heaters. Nothing glamorous, but we didn't care. We were there to kill elk and fill our freezers. We did neither of those things. In fact, in five days we never saw a single elk. Not one. We payed hard earned cash for what was supposed to be a sure thing! Nada. At the end of our trip, the guide seemed to legitimately feel bad about what had happened. He was a likeable guy and we all got along well - we kinda felt bad for him too. After all, this is his livelihood and he is certainly not getting any return customers at this point. He then tells us we can come back the following year, on him, but we'll have to pay for our tags and license. We were impressed, and appreciative, for his offer and said we accepted and would be contacting him for a fall 2014 hunt. A few months go by and we start calling to try to book dates. No return calls. We email. No response. Call and call and call and call. Nothing. The whole elk season came and went with no reply. Obviously this guy fed us a line. H&S has lost four hunters that were willing to give them, and their ranch, a second chance. read more

Thank you very much for the fantastic cow elk hunt near the end of last year. The 3 day hunt was booked for 12/18~20/2015,. I was in Heber City in the morning of 12/17, got a call from Bret, told me they saw elks nearby and he ask me to go to the campsite ASAP. I arrived the campsite around 2pm, change to hunting clothes and out at around 230pm. I got an elk before 4pm. Man I was very happy because it was the first elk in my life. The only problem was it was over too fast, the hunt was over before my official hunting date start. No complain for that. Bret is a typical experienced hunter, he not only try to help me to get what I wanted, he also help me to fix a problem with my car so that I can go home safely, he is a man with a kind heart.
