I hired this company for a light kitchen remodel that included cabinet reconfiguration, cabinet…read morepainting and backsplash install. We started the project on October 14th, agreeing to an estimate of $11,800, and the project ended 6 weeks later with a final invoice of $15,500. The project was left unfinished, and the franchise owner ultimately refused to return to complete or correct the work left by the service technician. I urge you to read my experience below. This company does not act with your best interest in mind. * Painting was left incomplete in multiple areas. Entire sections were missed, not just touch-ups. * Custom cabinetry was not finished or structurally sound. The top was not secured, interior backing was missing, and paint was incomplete. * Backsplash installation had inconsistent grout lines, visibly misaligned tile rows, uneven cuts at the ends of runs, and no Schluter edging. * We were charged over $1,000 for masking and protection and removal, yet paint overspray was left on walls, doors, and personal property throughout the space including my kids' toys and bikes in the garage. * An electrical outlet behind the oven was left unsecured, hanging freely with no attachment to framing hidden behind my stove. This is a basic safety and installation failure. When it came time for the final payment, I told the office on a Tuesday that I would bring the final check on Thursday because I had questions. Thomas called me and told me that was inappropriate and disrespectful and alluded to civil litigation. He personally came all the way to my house to collect final payment. While there, he acknowledged that additional work was required to repair and complete the project and committed in writing to creating a repair plan as all work was the Done Right Promise warranty. Over a three week span, he successfully avoided me until I showed up to their office unannounced asking for answers. While there, the owner decided his team would not return to my home, saying I would be "too difficult" or "micromanaging" and that my standards were too high. He initially offered me a $4,000 refund, however $2,000 of that was from a discovered billing error that was only revealed because I continuously asked about the large discrepancy between estimate and final invoice. So I was getting $2,000 to finish the project, even though he charged me $2,000+ for the backsplash, $1,000+ for tape and masking, and $848 for a final punch list even though he never sent someone back to my house to complete the punch list. I eventually escalated to corporate, but corporate said franchises are individually owned and operated, and corporate cannot force the franchise to do anything. They can only 'strongly suggest' courses of action to the franchise owner's business coach. So in my case, the owner, along with his coach, decided not to honor the warranty nor provide a refund for what it was going to cost to repair and complete the work, and corporate won't do anything. After several weeks of refund discussions, I eventually proposed a $6000 refund to part ways and waive my right to the warranty. The owner's response to me was 'Thanks. A check will be in the mail." When the check came, it was for $5000! I emailed the owner and asked why it was $1,000 short, and he ultimately decided that $5000 was enough. Again, the owner, his coach and corporate offered no explanation at all. The owner eventually said it was simply a negotiation tactic to send me a check for less than what he agreed to. If you made it this far, I hope you think twice about moving forward with this company and the Neighborly brand. Ultimately, I have to take responsibility for this as I did sign the document saying work was complete. Though I was under the impression I had to do that to trigger the warranty. This franchise simply does not have the skillset for large projects. If you need a light bulb changed or a ceiling fan hung, I'm sure they're fine. From the reviews, it looks like they install killer doggy doors. Also, do not rely on the Done Right Promise as a safeguard. And understand that if problems arise, resolution depends entirely on whether the owner chooses to engage, act respectfully, and honor his word, not on what the brand advertises. Since I have had several Spectacular Splats, I accrued some injuries that won't allow me to…read morecomplete the work I started. I need a handyman to do the things I can't do anymore. You know, little things like ripping out cabinets in my kitchen, repairing the wood around a window, demolishing an unneeded closet, removing old, nonfunctional gas wall heaters (I converted my house to all electric), building a small, low deck, putting down new LPV flooring, painting the exterior of the house, repairing a couple of broken switches anad outlets, hanging ceiling fans, that sort of thing. I don't know if Shane can do **all** the things I need done, but he can do most of them. And that makes me happy, because Shane is awesome. He answered the phone (which is important, getting voice mail for the initial contact means I never get a return call), we talked, I told him the 2 most critical things I needed done, and he arroved within the hour to do them! I needed an old kitchen sink removed since I had plumbers install a new sink on the opposite wall. I'm going to put my stove where the old sink was. And I needed an upper cabinet moved so I could put a new refrigerator there (mine is 43 years old and getting fragile and cranky and harder and harder to repair). He removed the old sink beautifully, did a fantastic job, cleaned up after himself. It was great. The upper cabinet presented issues. Apparently, back in the 1940s, when this house was built, those cabinets were installed as a permanent part of the house. There were no nails or screws to remove to take down the cabinet. It was well and truly built in. We discussed it, and instead of removing the entire cabinet, we decided to remove a section of the cabinet, just enough to let the new refrigerator in. That would leave me with the upper shelf just under the ceiling, and half the lower shelf. I decided to leave the doors off so it would be open shelving, and have decided the upper shelf that I need a 4-step step ladder to access will hold my flower vases and ornamental knicknacks like the tabletop centerpiece figurines. And maybe part of my gnome collection. And my kitchen Toad can be comfortable there, too. The lower shelf can easily hold my most used cookbooks. I only need a 2-step stool to reach that. Shane was wonderful - he didn't comment on the clutter of all my previous pre-injured messes, the state of the floors I intend to replace (and oh that linoleum is AWFUL) (I plan to hire him to replace the floors in my house, but that will be the last major handyman work I will have - that's OK, I have a LOT more). He charged a fair and reasonable rate and I increased that because of the trouble we had with that upper cabinet. I'm sure he was frustrated at not being able to do what I originally wanted, but I am happy with the solution we arrived at for it. And he was fast, kind, professional, skilled, and all the things you want in a person you bring into your home to do a job. I have plans for this man - lots of future work as I save up the money for each project. Next up: the 2 windows we discussed. One has rotted wood to be replaced, the other, I want to convert to a door with a small deck and ramp. I'm not sure if I'll have the money before or after the new year, and we may have to wait on the weather, but that's the next project. So stay tuned for that review!

Five stars is not really enough to get across how happy we are with his work. Earlier this summer, we found ourselves in a position no one wants to be in: dealing with an unexpected family loss. Compounding this situation was the fact that it occurred in a city that was not our own. Moving forward from this experience was going to be hard enough, but it also came with some pretty substantial home repair/renovation projects that needed to be done ASAP. Doing so in a town that is not our residence, and with contractors with whom we were not familiar, made it even more challenging. Through Yelp, we took a chance on finding a contractor to do a test run with a small but time-sensitive project, and Joshua came through with a really great bid and personal touch. His communication was exceptional, and his personality stood out in both in our online communication and again when we met in person. Most importantly, the care and commitment he brought to even this small project, plus the humanity and empathy he showed us during a really difficult time, made all the difference. We relayed to him the scope of the home repairs needed going forward, and asked if they were within his comfort zone. When he responded positively, we told him he was our go-to guy for every project needed on that house, and that we trusted him implicitly to do the work independently. He didn't let us down. He sent photos of his progress and gave us honest appraisals of what could be done, and what prices would be for labor and materials. He worked on a tight timeline and got the work done on time and on budget. Moreover, the quality of the work that he did approaches the level of artisan, not just contractor, to the point where I'd employ him for our own home projects if it was at all possible (it's not, sadly). I don't know what else I can say to relay our impressions of Joshua. He's the best contractor I've ever worked with, and I wish him nothing but success in the future. If you get a chance to work with him on a home project, consider yourself fortunate.
