New HEB in da' hood! This HEB is high on the hilltop, overlooking Babcock. The store is larger than some, not as big as the others in the immediate vicinity. The produce section is always fresh here. There's a bakery on site that churns out the sweetness. The frozen section leaves some to be desired, it could be bigger... Beer selection here is pretty good. I'm always happy with the HEB brands of most of my groceries. There's a large self-check-out area here that's new. Fast! The clerks are always friendly and smile. There's a pharmacy here with a drive-thru. The clearance section is to the far left when you enter the store. The markdowns aren't as aggressive as other stores, but there's a wide variety of weird stuff in there. However, there are other stores that line this HEB, and the parking lot. It's got a HEB gas station, with some of the cheapest gas prices in the area! read more

English is not my first language and me and Isaiah had a misunderstanding. But he handled it very poorly and the other lady there lied for him and didnt let me clear things up. The other associate had no business joining in on the conversation and i forgot to get her name but she was kinda tall. This caused him to get a manager and make me feel like a criminal. I bought a money order with my debit card but my roommate had already bought it so i went back to return it and he refused to cash it. His eyes were very red and i think its because he was about to start crying from how personally he took the whole situation. Someone that takes things so personally shouldn't be at the customer service desk. If anyone shouldve been that upset its me. Im glad ashley was there because she was able to offer alternatives and successfully deescalate but i will not be returning here. read more

I feel like it's a lil weird to review your local grocery store but I'll say this, as a woman, nowadays it can be scary to run errands alone, even in the daylight. I posted my favorite hidden gem from HEB and that's the Glazed Croissant. It's ridiculously good and disappeared during the pandemic. I only recently found it again at HEB. At $0.68 it's a STEAL. So if you've ever thought: "Hey... this donut would be amazing with more butter and flakey layers!", or "This croissant is yummy but only if it was deep fried and glazed with a crunchy sugar crust!" ... so ya... that's how ridiculously good they are. They are fun to give to out of town guests or if you have traveling consultants at your work that you're trying to build bridges with... or even just people that recently moved to SATX. So a tip about HEB is that the store manager has some leeway to manage what is in their store so if you have a hard to find ethnic item then you might want to go to an HEB that is located in that heavily ethnic area. For Example... HEB Alon market has THE LARGEST kosher section in San Antonio of any store... not just HEB. It's located across from the JCC in San Antonio. So for Babcock it's right by St. George Marionite Church which hosts the Lebanese festival and sends Leventine dancers to the Texas Folklife festival. So I'd expect lots of hard to find Mediterranean ingredients. There's also a fairly large South Asian population due to the proximity to USAA and the Medical center. So that section is growing but I think the HEB on Wurzbach and I-10 still has a larger South Asian section. Coincidentally I found hard to find decaf tea there... a British label: PG decaf. It blends Assam and Ceylon teas together. read more

I go to the HEB on a weekly basis to pick up my curbside order, and have gone inside on occasion. This HEB is on the smaller side, however they offer tons of deals and coupons to that makes up for it. The store always has what I need, plus the gas pumps and car wash make it a one stop shop. Typical grocery store staff is your typical young generation. Used to be a slave there. Don't use curbside so can't tell you how well its run there. Although we live closer to a different HEB. We choose to go to this one because of their outstanding customer service. 9/10 we get curbside pickup. Tonight was no exception. Curbside is the freaking best! No shoes? No worries... dirty hair? Don't care... Bring the 85 lb pup? Ummm... yes! Every darn time! The runners are fast and polite which we appreciate. Tonight we got home and I started unloading the goods and noticed a HUGE mistake....I received a 2 lb. pork loin instead of a 6 lb beef tenderloin. Yaaaa that's not gonna cut it. Especially since they charged me for the beef tenderloin price. After cleaning all day, having a neighborhood garage sale and all of my other duties...I was freaking tired and pissed that I didn't have the correct items for our Mothers Day dinner tomorrow. Dun dun dahhh- No fear...HEB management is here- and to the rescue. Lol so cheesy, I know. But seriously they saved my husband from having to listen to me complain and be a total jerk. Not only was everyone we talked to super, super nice but they apologized and didn't even hesitate to make it right. They went even further though...the manager drove us the beef tenderloin himself along with a delicious bag of cookies. (Which helped my mood 100%) so thank you so much! Needless to say, we are lifers at this specific store. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate kind people that do the right thing. And appreciate the effort of people that go above and beyond, even more so. I can not recommend this store enough! TLDR: A recent incident at this HEB left me profoundly startled and humiliated. An employee acted as though I were attempting to steal my own car O.O HEB: 5910 Babcock Rd San Antonio, TX 78240 I was having a very bad day so I called a family member to talk on the phone in the HEB parking lot after getting groceries at around 9:30pm on 10/4/2023. I sat outside of my car to talk, walked around it as I talked for around 10 minutes, then sat back in the drivers seat as I spoke on the phone. I was then approached by someone who was not in uniform (who I later found out was an employee) who said "Is that your car?" implying I was attempting to steal it. (This employee was not security) I politely let him know that this indeed was my car and showed him my key, opened my car door and sat in the drivers seat, and asked if he worked there (he was not in uniform, but when he faced me to respond I saw his lanyard). He said "Actually I do" in an instigating and stern tone, so I attempted to deescalate and thank him by saying "Oh ok, well hey thanks for looking out!" and I smiled and waved (He was about 30 feet away). This employee responded by turning around, ignoring what I had said, and then waved me away in a shooing motion. O.O This employee then went over to security, pointed me out to him and they both stared at me as I attempted to continue my phone conversation. After a minute I waved my key at them and smiled, but they kept staring. I started my car for them to see that this was my vehicle, and after a bit they left. This employee was a tall man who is balding/bald and at least 40-50 years old. I was having an awful day and being treated like a criminal at HEB was not something I was expecting, especially the instigating and escalating tonality of this employee. I shop at this location 2-3+ times a week and have never experienced this. The employee's accusatory tone and dismissive gestures were highly unprofessional and discourteous. The way I was treated made my already awful day somehow even worse :( I am not certain if this employee is authorized to patrol the parking lot without security training, as there are already security guards trained on how to deal with people appropriately. If this employee was trained on this the situation could have been handled much better. In situations like this, it would be helpful if this employee approached customers with more tact and courtesy. Additionally, I would recommend that employees without official security training avoid making accusations and instead, call upon the trained security personnel to handle any potential concerns. This would ensure a more pleasant and respectful experience for customers like myself. I genuinely appreciate the vigilance of the HEB staff when it comes to safeguarding customers' vehicles; that's not the problem here. The issue lies in the fact that, while I was simply sitting next to my unlocked vehicle, I was questioned about its ownership. Even after confirming that it was indeed my car, both this employee and security personnel continued to closely monitor me. This persistent scrutiny, along with the disrespectful treatment I endured, made the situation incredibly distressing and humiliating. !!! 99% of the staff at this location is EXCELLENT, they always say hello, offer help, and treat me with the utmost respect and professionalism that you could get at a grocery store. This review is based on my experience with this single employee, and due to the way I was treated, I might be better off going to another HEB location from now on like HEB Plus at Bandera and 1604. read more

This is a behemoth of a grocery store. It took me 15mins to find the dairy isle despite a big yellow sign that said dairy...it was just so far away I couldn't see it from the other end of the store. This place is like Walmart but cheaper?!?!? And strictly grocery ..I don't think I saw any hardware or clothes or tires or randomness that Walmart has. I'm just confused Bc I'm pretty sure it's the equivalent of your neighborhood grocery store but cheaper and at least three times bigger. Anyway pretty sure you can find anything you want here short of your ethnic spices/food. Understandable tho. Admittedly, I was just a bit overwhelmed my first time being here . I'm sure that feeling will pass as I learn to navigate my way through the endless isles of food. read more

I love this HEB! I moved to the area two months ago and now this is my new HEB. I've had positive experiences in store and with curbside. Today they realized they forgot one of my curbside items and even before I made the quick trip home they had already called me to let me know I could pick it up or receive a refund. What great customer service! Each time we have done curbside it has been timely and we always have somewhere to park, which is not always the case with other locations. Decently convenient and clean neighborhood grocer. I love it when the lady on the announcement sings about just made tamales - it adds a certain charm to this particular location. Nothing really sets this location apart nor does anything subtract from the store's usefulness. Like every other HEB, it promises to have plenty of amenities at reasonable prices. I do wish they had some self-service cashiers, since sometimes you just want to make a few small purchases while avoiding the long lines. Even the express lanes seem to be pretty packed here. I love the HEB branded items and the awesome prices available due to weekly coupons conveniently placed next to items. However, sometimes it is quite difficult to navigate such a huge store with everything under the sun available. Like, is an inflatable Texmas celebratory lawn ornament really necessary? This has to be my favorite HEB. I will tell you why. Once I was walking up and down the aisles looking for a small bag of popped popcorn. Two employees (I assume they were managers) noticed me and right away tried to help. After unsuccessfully trying find the right size, the manager whipped out a card and gave me a large bag of popcorn for free. So nice of them and completely unexpected. Thank you HEB. Secondly, I love to make dinners that are not just thrown together. This HEB (and it may be others too) offers these really awesome pre-made dishes that have the vegetables and meat all in one dish ready to heat up in the oven! I love that I feel like I'm getting a good home cooked meal in just minutes! And the cost is not that bad either. Find them near the produce and bakery area. Whether it's dinner for one or two, they have a good selection of options that taste delicious. I love it! read more

This HEB Rocks!! They always have those hard to find items in stock here. I've gone to 4 other HEB's trying to buy Pancetta for one of the dishes I make. None of them had pancetta in stock, or if they did, it was paper thin deli sliced prepackaged. Not what I was wanting. The only draw back to coming to this store is that, I get in there and the foodie and ex-chef in me starts thinking of all the things I could make with their vast selection. So if you need something you can't find I highly suggest looking here before going anywhere else. They also always seem to have great something cooking outside for sale, to take home. I absolutely love this H-E-B for so many reasons. I mean it's definitely not Alon Market, but it certainly gets the job done. Positives: -Excellent Medical Center location -Friendly staff members -Promos with free samples every time I shop -Nice beer & wine selection -Parking is not a complete nightmare (compared to I-10/Wurzbach) -Naturally grass-fed chicken/beef/lamb products -Gas station (which is extra nice when they give per-gallon discounts) -Diverse selection of plants, flowers, and pottery -Fruits and veggies are ALWAYS fresh -They've got the extended "fancy cheeses" section at this location (Boar's Head) -A station to create your own mix of dog-treats -Sushi station / fruit cup station / freshly made guacamole, salsas, and juices -Lots of entrances and exits to ease the flow of traffic -Medium sized, not too big and not too small A few Negatives: -The night staff is not as helpful as the day-time staff -The Business Center is always beyond busy, with slow cashiers -They need more containers for self-serve doggie treats -Check stands are usually pretty busy and shoppers don't always adhere to the 10 items or less rule in the speedy checkout aisles All in all, this HEB location gets the job done and they've always got some wacky employee or another making silly announcements over the intercom. read more

Now HEB is something new for me as we don't have this in West Texas. So when I first got there I could say I can compare it with United Supermarkets as it has a similar quality and a similar service. After shopping there a while I see some differences between these two stores. HEB is somewhere between United and Walmart. HEB has good quality at the products I am going for, while they are a little cheaper on the service at the checkout. As I don't need anybody that carries by bags to the car, I don't care if they have this service or not. So overall I like HEB, and the service they provide. The website only allows items in stock, so items like Clorox wipes are not available. I love this H‑E‑B but my gosh they don't care about people that might not be working or the low to middle class of people. I bought tender loin steaks this week. They are my favorite red meat. 30 dollars for 2 small steaks. Not even a inch thick! Just a few months ago they were 17.00. Wtf H‑E‑B stop screwing us around. This is MY HEB. I love heebe. I love the peeps, the deals, the sushi, the bakery, the florist, and I really love that they have now added even more organic choices. Now, should I shop the farmer's market? Of course! Do I? As often as I can. But let's all be honest, nothing competes with heebe. We used to have a Kroger here and there...bless their hearts. One gripe: They stopped carrying "pot stickers" (my baby's fave), and my Natural Choice ginger dressing (wth?). Honestly, though, you can ask for anything to be put on the shelf, and they usually do it. I once requested "Ballet of Angels," a lovely white wine and it was there within a week. I didn't even formally ask, just talked to their wine person. TIP: Get TP...you probably need it. read more

This HEB seems very lively to me as opposed to some other grocery stores I've been to. Did I mention something fell out of my bag today as I was walking to my car? A cart guy ran right up and asked if I wanted a new one. A little over a minute later a bagger brought me a brand new thing while the cart guy went right to work cleaning up the mess. This place is gigantic. Now that I live in the medical center, this is usually the HEB I go to, as the one on Wurzbach can't get their act together- see separate review. Like most other "good" HEBs in town, this one has a sushi station, bakery, florist, and demo-cooking station, along with an extensive beer/wine selection and a large pharmacy with helpful staff. The produce area here is particularly large and my only frustration with it is the fact that they still have the old school scales instead of the handy ones that print out your price tag sticker. Not sure why we're going the old school route when everything else here seems fairly new, but it's a pain in the butt when I can't mentally calculate my total as I go as easily. That and I question the accuracy of register scales and the ability of the highschool-student cashiers to distinguish between different orange and apple varieties, and other factors that can tack on extra coin to my final cost. As I said before, this location is particularly giant, so if it's not here it probably needs to be specially ordered. I can get all kinds of niche items that aren't standard at other locations, such as the "light" almond milk in the dark chocolate flavor by a brand other than HEB's, rather than having to make a separate trip to Sprouts. The one issue I take with this location, aside from their outdated produce scales, is their customer service- no one has ever gone above and beyond here, and I occasionally get an attitude from the night staff. On multiple occasions, I've tried to purchase markdown items or site-specific sale items, and the cashiers did not ring them up at the posted price, causing me to either have to constantly monitor the prices while they're ringing them up (instead of beginning the bagging process) or having to go back for a refund (which has happened twice in excess of $5). read more

I like this HEB and I don't think I could have picked a better HEB to be in my area. The Wurzbach one is gross and smelly and horrible and the DeZavala one is a little too far for my liking. But with this one, the location is juuuust right. Sure they don't have everything you would find at the Gucci-B on Broadway, or the Alon Market or even the Lincoln Heights market, but what this HEB is excellent at is fusing in a few choice items from those locations while still offering a full-service store full of everyday household goods. At which other regular HEB would I be able to find truffle oil, air-chilled chicken, plus a huge selection of cheeses and wines!?!?! Not too many I'm sure. And to top everything off, this HEB is located right next to a delicious pizzeria and a liquor store. BOOM! This location boasts a pharmacy, deli, cooking demo island, bakery, flower shop, sushi station, fruit & juice area, seafood section, business center, and extended health items along with a few items you would see at an HEB Plus! The lines at the business center are a little too long for my liking, especially since they only have 1 person working the counter. But with all the good, this isn't so bad. Yep, definitely my favorite regular HEB and I couldn't be happier with their decision to move out of that ugly old building across the street. read more
