The pregnancy was great, the delivery was amazing, and we love DR. Moore. After my postpartum appointment, it was nearly impossible to schedule an appointment with her (I have PCOS). My annual Pap was rescheduled twice, and the wait times between appointments were months. Finally, I agreed to see an NP (Madison Penny). The PAP was fine, but I raised concerns about my PCOS and the fact that I did NOT want to take birth control because it has a negative effect on my body. Basically, I was told that was my only option other than diet and exercise. The usual response when it comes to women's health. I left with a note for some nearly $100 supplements I could take and that was it. Between visits with my PCP and trying to make an appointment with my assigned OBGYN (Dr. Moore), I was denied the ability to get a referral written to endocrinology. My PCP said the OBGYN can write one; the NP (Madison) or medical assistant said no, the PCP has to do it. Meanwhile, I was bleeding for 2 months straight, exhausted, and barely eating. Labs were done, and my DHEA and Testosterone were HIGH! I had chin hair, I was obese, my hair was thinning, and I was having pain with intercourse. I was so out of it that my husband had to make the phone calls, and he also got the runaround after telling them what was happening to me. They did not care. At some point, I was told Dr. Moore could write the referral, but they made excuses (I cannot remember them off the top of my head). Then I finally got a referral after telling my PCP I am literally about to give up on life. I had to start therapy because I did not want to live anymore. I was in so much pain. So, EIGHT MONTHS LATER, I attended my first endocrinology appointment. He was amazing and gave me great advice since I started a GLP1/GIP ( I was previously on Semaglutide but switched to a different medication). He said he wanted to run a FULL panel and test my thyroid as well. He said he really wants me to do another PAP and also an ultrasound/scan to make sure the uterine lining is not too thick so he can prescribe the RIGHT MEDICATION for me. Makes sense. I messaged the Women's Clinic to schedule that, and Brittany responded (paraphrasing), "Your last Pap was in January." I did not ask when my appointment was. I explained WHY the endo wanted it done and said, if my insurance covers it, why can't I make an appointment? I am currently waiting for the response, but this is the EXACT same runaround that led me to spiral in the first place. This is the issue: if it were mostly men doing this, I would understand a little more because men do not experience this, but this is a clinic full of WOMEN and maybe one or two men. WOMEN have been the ones failing me at this clinic. I am an educated Masters level professional in a helping profession, and perhaps it is because of a reason other than my gender/sex that I am not being treated. I cannot fathom CHOOSING a profession meant to provide patients with evidence-based care and then neglecting them. Evidence has shown PCOS (PMOS) affects MULTIPLE areas of the body, not just the reproductive system. Again, I want to reiterate that Dr. Moore is AMAZING. I would choose her to be my OBGYN again and again. This clinic is not it. I have been failed for the last two years. If someone is experiencing PCOS symptoms, I recommend going to Dallas or something. Oklahoma and Wichita Falls are terrible areas to receive care. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to stay where I am.
