Staff were extremely helpful on my last visit, I told them my budget and they suggested gifts for me, They were only too happy to pull various items out of cases for me to look at until I found the right gifts. I think their selection has improved as well as the quality of the items, Gift boxes are also better quality than they were. Prices are reasonable and I would recommend them to anyone who cant afford to splash out a massive amount on expensive jewelery

In fact, Jonathan David cover all of their bases by augmenting their products and services with a pre-owned range, but this is mainly confined to jewellery containing precious stones, such as diamond engagement rings, as well as watches... essentially things that are subject to standard evaluations, where market price can be estimated accurately. This is a family run business with outlets in Wellfield Road in Roath as well as St Mary Street in the centre of town. The St Mary Street outlet carries much of the pre-owned jewellery, so if you are looking for an engagement ring, then this is where you need to head to. In addition, somewhat logically, jewellery and watch repairs take place here as well... this is where the repair and valuation team are based. I went around quite a few stores just the other week trying to find one that would take a few links out of a loose bracelet to make it fit nicely. After being given a ridiculous price in one store, then being given a reasonable price but told I would have to wait 10 days to have the bracelet back, I came here. I honestly expected to be given another ridiculous price or waiting time as from the outside this appears to be a very pricey establishment. What I found however, was that the staff were very polite and gave me the same price as the second store I visited but told me my bracelet would be ready to collect in only 2 hours. This was music to my ears so I handed over the bracelet and went back to work. When I returned to the store to pick the bracelet back up I was advised that the price they charge includes a complimentary clean of my jewellery. I was delighted; my silver bracelet looked as new as the day my mother gave it to me. Result!

This was a nice House of Fraser and I had some very helpful staff members who assisted me looking for warm winter coats and Green Tea scented stuff. They were very helpful and I managed to get everything I needed despite feeling like I had to walk around all of 2 floors to do it :-) It was a pretty much standard Huse of Fraser though and really they don't vary too much from city to city unlike Debenhams where I found laver bread, a Welsh specialty and other Welsh foods on sale (which would not happen in Oxford or London!).

Its not just your traditional stuff, they have lots of gothic styled rock wannabe bling. The collection is quite surprising and the pendants they have, well I want them all. For designer style you also have designer prices, the cheapest charms with cost you upward of £25 while most of the necklaces I like were over £100. Shame because its a great shop.

I have seen watches in the window priced up to £800. That said, the cheapest charms are around £25 but you do have to buy the necklace/bracelet separately and you often need to buy a little keeper too so the prices stack up quite quickly. Definitely a place for window shopping and if you do venture inside, the staff are very friendly and helpful, not pushy sales types. Perhaps a good place to go if you are looking for a special gift for somebody. I would definitely buy lots of stuff in there if I got lucky on the lotto.

The first kind seem to be of the opinion that jewellery is an ancient tradition, passed down through the generations and that a certain element of reverence should be attributed to the stock. These places tend to be in the upper echelons of the jewellery retailers market. All smoked wood and leather, everyone having a very English accent and saying "very good sir" to you. The second kind are the more cynical, mass-market retailers. Whilst the first are of the opinion that every customer is a discerning jewellery enthusiast with taste and discretion, the second are clearly of the opinion that customers are a bunch of brain-addled monkey people with tempremental ADHD who are only looking for the shiny thing in the window. David Edwards is a case of the former. It can be intimidating at first. It looks like a jewellers would look if written by Thomas Hardy, but there's an elegance that goes with the shop that lends an aura of mystique to the jewellers. Of the many times I have visited, I've never actually bought anything from there. I've seen things I would like to have the money to buy for someone, but sadly been unable to. I can't wait for the day when I can buy someone a David Edwards necklace, because I shall know, on that day, that I am fancy.
