The best banh mi in the state! My goto spot for roast duck & bbq crispy pork ribs & pork belly. I can't be in an Asian grocery store long lol I only go here during the off peak times to avoid the long deli line. If I need any Asian grocery items, I usually just have my mom get them for me from a list that I would send her. I am very sensitive to smell and vomit very easily so I try to go in and out of Asian grocery stores as quickly as possible and especially on an empty stomach just in case I do vomit. The raw meat section smell is terrifying at every Asian market I wish it was sectioned far away from the entrance of deli foods. But it's not & they cut the raw meats in the open air (not enclosed or closed door separate room) & the smell lingers into the entire store at every Asian market & just makes me very ill. Luckily, the deli register line is only for the deli so I can just order deli foods and check out in the same line and then I'm out the door. read more

this is a solid Asian grocery store in the twin cities!!! From fresh produce, seafood, meat, snacks, and more - there's also a hot food bar, bakery, and banh mi deli!! It's also clean, offers spacious parking, and pretty competitive prices compared to other grocery stores in the area! My only wish is that offer more frozen products, it was mainly dumplings/dim sum and ice cream! This will definitely be on my rotation for Asian groceries! Love the different produce options here. There's always something delicious to try at Ha Tien. So many food and drink options. The deli has a lot of food options as well. Again, so many things to try. The entrees I've tried haven't been my favorite items. I'd say, definitely try a banh mi or the roast duck. Service is not really something I take into consideration when reviewing Ha Tien as there's not a ton of interaction for me, most of the time. I get in, peruse the aisles and get out. read more

This is one of the greatest markets I've been to! The selection of items is incredible! They offer everything from fresh deli entrees to seafood to household goods. The fruits, vegetables and meats are fresh and the variety can't be beat! IMO, the prices are very reasonable compared to other markets. If I am in the area, I will usually stop by here to get asian produce and meat. The store is huge, it has a lot of good section of meat, seafood, and all kinds of vegetables from Asia. They also have a deli-with prepared food from padthai, fried rice, stir fry and banh mi sandwiches. Their roasted duck are hanging by the window, which is nice to see. There is also pastries and boba tea station, it is a plus. Overall, it is a great place to shop if you are looking for asian groceries. read more

I love everything about this market! First of all, it's huge. I've grown up visiting Asian grocery stores with my mom my whole life and also visited many Asian grocery stores in other states in the country and this is by far in my opinion the best one in all of MN! There is a big parking lot right in front of the store so you won't need to worry about parking. The deli section is to your right when you walk in and it's so amazing. They have traditional Thai, Laos, Vietnamese, Hmong and Chinese food in their deli section including a hot bar, cold refrigerated section, a Banh mi section and a roasted duck section. Everything looked amazing and clean and well organized. The first time we went there we wanted to buy everything we saw. We got pad Thai, sticky rice dessert, a combo banh mi sandwich, and many other deli products. The deli food products are nice and cheap and the hot bar is so tasty for a non-restaurant location, it tasted like from a restaurant. They also have a small bakery with goods by the checkout area. We only got the egg tart but so good. We walked through the seafood section of the store and they have fresh live fish, crabs, lobster, snails and many more. What I was surprised by is how clean everything was and organized. No bad fishy smell that sometime Asian markets have. The market has a variety of Asian origins of snacks, condiments and frozen foods. Their produce section is amazing also- local grown produce and so fresh and clean. Again, very organized by food types so you don't have to walk around the store everywhere to try to find the ingredients you need. Have been shopping at Ha Tien since they opened. They recently completed upgrades to the store and would say they have become one of the best Asian grocery shopping experiences. Last Saturday I bought 3 big red snapper came up to $34. The fish was frozen, thawed it out and went to clean it. The fish was spoiled and smell really bad. I called and told them about it, a lady answer and told me I cannot return it because I only had a 2 hours window to take it back. So I was like all my money gonna go to waste because y'all selling spoiled fish. She said sorry. I was ok I just won't buy fish from there anymore. I had driven past the store before, but have never stopped in. My husband and I came with my sister and her family to look around and wander as we were killing some time before a dinner reservation and had to stop ourselves from buying too much on an empty stomach! It was cool to see the different hot foods and drinks available. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how incredibly clean it was, and the amount of variety offered. All of the produce looked very fresh, and the seafood counter did not have the typical fishy smell as is common for Asian markets. The checkout lines were relatively long, but it may have been because we came on a weekend - either way the cashiers were very quick to get everyone on their way. Found this hidden gem by accident while I was picking up an order at the Walmart on Robert St in St. Paul. I needed to pick up some ingredients to cook Vietnamese Spicy Noodles Soup and didn't have much time to drive back to Minneapolis to go to Shuang Hur so I did a search for Asian grocery store near me and Ha Tien wasn't too far away. At first, I was a reluctant since I've not been there before and was on a time crunch and so I went ahead and did directions for the Chan Market in Bloomington and then suddenly change course back to Ha Tien. And BOY am I glad I did. This is by far the cleanest, most organized, and wide aisles for shopping and be able to socially distanced during the pandemic. I might have to say that this is my new go to place because I just LOVE their deli! They have all the Vietnamese desserts that I love and my mom makes growing up. Their banh mi is also tasty and reasonably priced. I've been here twice and both times it has been great. I went on a Saturday mid morning my second time and they have way more appetizer treats available like fried banana, taro and sweet potatoes, xoi (coconut sweet sticky rice), purple rice and sausage, Chinese sausage and sticky rice. All so good! Highly recommend this place. I wasn't able to find the milk buns my daughters love but otherwise they have pretty much everything I need. Located on the east side of St Paul you'll find this massive Asian grocer complete with a deli, hot food bar, and freshly made-to-order banh mi. This was my first visit on my way to a movie so stopped in for a little sustenance as I was in a rush and needed something I could car-bang. Rookie mistake as there's always a line here and for good reason -- but this massive banh mi was well worth me being late for my movie and I crushed it in the car in record time. What I ordered: Banh Mi Regular (extra paste) ~ red roast pork * pork loaf * sour pickled daikon and carrot * cucumber * cilantro * jalapeño * mayo * Pâté (paste) * crusty baguette **this sandwich is THICCC and I'll strongly encourage to always go with extra paste. For years I had this store confused with another I thought I had checked out once a very long time ago that I was not impressed by. I'm glad I figured my own mix-up out, but sheesh, I've been missing out. This store has everything a self proclaimed master chef of my kitchen needs. I love United Noodles, but they're a hike from where I am when I need Asian groceries, which is a few times a month. Ha Tien is much closer and not only is the store squeaky clean, their selection of products is very impressive. I found sea grapes here...I thought I'd have to go to Japan to ever get a taste. As far as I'm concerned Ha Tien is a great replacement for the Byerly's that used to be at this location. While my visits are generally geared more towards the deli offerings, Ha Tien still has a lot to offer. First and foremost, the deli is great. They have a few different types of banh mi (one of my favorites in the city - grab some extra loaves of bread to take home) and usually around twenty or so hot options that run the gammut from Pad Thai, prawns, orange chicken, Hmong sausage, fried rice, wings, ribs, etc. I haven't had anything I didn't like and the prices are very reasonable. Since this used to be a Byerly's the building has a fairly large footprint, which has been filled with all sorts of goodies that are mostly foreign to me, but fun to explore and try. Their produce is reasonably priced, there is a large meat department and also a bakery pumping out those delicious baguettes, among other items. read more

I didn't get to try the hot foods, but they seem like a popular seller for the large portions and affordable pricing! I did manage to snag two bahn mi's and my god those things were massive for the price! If where you live has some strong Asian cuisine I do not recommend the BBQ bahn mi. I had to give it 0/10 because it really was just char siu meat that was diced and not that great. But the Regular bahn Mi is a must!! Stick with the Regular bahn mi for $5.99! Hatien can be very crowded some times. The check out lanes are super narrow. But there's a reason they're so busy. They have some of the best selection of groceries families need. We love their deli foods. You can't go wrong with the bbq pork bahn mi, or hot food selection. Our favorites are the pre packaged vermicelli noodles and spring rolls. This is my go to Asian super market. It has everything I need. The deli area is my favorite for when I'm too lazy to cook. The Bahn Mi is still one of my favorites. I love the Peking duck and Sesame Balls there. It's always a treat for my kids. There's a new Boba Tea stand there but I've only seen it open a handful of times. The seafood is fresh like always. The produce aisle has all the fruits and veggies I eat on the daily. There's so much to buy. When I'm feeling Pho, there's the entire noodle aisle to explore. When I want Chinese food, there's plenty of ingredients. When I want my homemade Hmong food, I get it from here as well. The spice and condiment aisles are my favorite. Best Asian market in the area so far, excepting United Noodle for specifically Japanese items. Pretty good prices, great selection, very clean, fresh produce, no smelly fish tanks. The pastry bakery has to be a hidden secret or something; outstanding croissants especially frangipane, not quite to Trung Nam standards but much cheaper and more available. Ha Tien is mind blowing in the variety of goods offered. I always enjoy my trips through the store. One suggestion is I needed 5 kaffir lime leaves for my hot and sour soup recipe I made, but the bag with the least amount had about 50 of them in it for $6. I'll post a photo. I appreciate that Ha Tien is ambitious enough to take over the former Lunds Byerlys space off Suburban and significantly expand its deli offerings to utilize the fully established kitchen of its predecessor. The food appears impressive because they offer roasted meats, bakery, sushi, and many hot items all very reasonably priced. I chose to order the $6 meal deal which includes a carb (pad Thai, fried rice, or lo mein) + 2 entrees. More than a single serving so portion wise it's a great deal. But the food doesn't taste that great. The pad Thai flavor falls way short. My 2 meat and veggie selections were so so at best. So in essence, if you're willing to compromise taste for price, then head on over here for one of the best bargain meals in town. If not, then don't order from the hot deal. I want to head back and try their spring rolls - which were sadly sold out when I went. read more

My parents live really close to woodbury and it's never been fun to drive to St. Paul to do our Asian shopping . When I was told Ha Tien bought the old Byerlys and now is a huge Asian market I was excited . This place is really good. Still have a lot of space they can utilize for something but for the main parts of the store it's great! I love their selection of stuff including ramen , dumplings and more . Ha Tien has recently become a required pit stop when we are in the Twin Cities area. This market has a great variety in products and their deli is our favorite spot for banh mis! They have baked goods, appetizers, entree, dessert items and so much more available in this area, too. Price point is less than where I'm from (Madison WI) and the store hygiene is much better than most Asian markets. Another thing I love is that each restroom stall had a baby seat and sanitary wipes for the toilet seat! read more
