There's something fun about going to places you've never been, opening up your yelp app and discovering awesome local things. On my most recent work trip to Ocala, I was able to discover this awesome food spot inside a gas station, in a plaza that's not even directly on a main road! The menu has traditional Korean rice dishes, soups, and fusion Korean/Mexican. I was happy to see a lot of tofu options for the vegetarians like myself. I went with the bibimbap which is rice with an assortment of pickled and fresh vegetables in a sesame sauce. The girl who took my order even asked if I was vegan and if the egg was ok. Extra points for caring about their customers. It came with a side of the red kimchi sauce which makes the whole thing amazing when mixed in. I've heard other co-workers order their grilled meat options and they've all liked them. I'm curious about these mexi-fusion dishes. Korean bbq taco anyone? Overall, a unique experience eating good homestyle Korean food at a gas station. Korean food experts may scoff that it just tastes ok... but for Ocala, this is pretty good! So before leaving Ocala for a 2 hour drive back to Jacksonville, we checked out some local eateries. Heaorum Foods was one of the local choices, so we decided to venture it out.   The address lead us to a residential area and upon our arrival to this place, we saw nothing but a Gas Station/Mini Mart, which was Heaorums. This is a prime example of never judge the book by its cover. From the exterior, we almost did not go inside, but we tried it anyways and we were glad we did.   As you walk in, you'll see the checkout counter and the menu board to your right. So many food choices... the menu board was nice, big, clear, self-explanatory. To your left is the snack aisle, refrigerated drink area and a small make shift dining area.   We ordered: #12 Bul Bob (sliced BBQ beef w/ rice & veggies) #13 Hot Bob (spicy BBQ pork w/ rice & veggies) #16 Short Rib Soup Note: Free Asian Salad when you check in on YELP   I decided to order the Short Rib soup because I'm watching my calories, trying to lose some weight and to get my sexy back on by the time summer comes. The soup was fantastic; really tasted homemade. The complimentary Asian Salad was on point. And the side of Kimchi tasted like it was just made.   We rated the food collectively as "OH-10-TIC" (authentic)..and it sure was.   Our eyes rolled back as we ate our food. And just imagine 4 grown men moaning while eating their food. I know it sounds EWW but truthfully, we were just humming to the goodness of the food...like a foodie version of BOYZ II MEN. Haeorum is a Korean restaurant focused on Korean Bunsik food items which are street food, snacks and fastfood. For the ones i ordered, they were authentic and were as good as what I had during my recent trip to Seoul, Korea. I live in Gainesville and there are four Korean restaurants but this place in Ocala is the only one that can make good gimbap(Korean sushi) better than these four places. Also their teok bokki style is more like food stall on streets of Seoul while Seoul Pocha's teokbokki is more like bar style. Their chicken is Yangnyum chicken (Korean fried chicken sweet savory sauce) which are not only very good but also are different than Seoul Pocha's padak(Korean chicken with green onion). read more

My initial review was removed after about 6 months. I posted pictures of a Korean lady washing dishes, outside, with a hose. I guess they don't want anyone to know this dirty little secret. Food was ok Korean (and I'm married to a Korean man (20 years) , my in-laws are from Korea so I do know a little bit about the culture and food practices. That being said, I wonder about the cleanliness and preparation of the food after seeing that. And this is where my rating is coming from. They should have a proper sanitation station for cleaning their dishes, not out on the side of the building on the sidewalk. read more

Don't be scared by the description in other reviews of this being a "dive". It's not. It's at a gas station, sure, next to a tattoo shop, but it is in a little town on the edge of horse country (coming up from SW Florida.). Super nice girl at the counter. This is not a place where you would feel unsafe whatsoever. We ate in the parking lot under a tree covered in Spanish moss. On to the food. Excellent. We each got the pork hot bob. It was perfectly cooked and had a nice hot spice, but not too hot. Pickled cucumbers were great as well! This is definitely worth taking a short detour! read more

This past Friday I had to make the trip down to Ocala to do a little shopping. I decided to stop by one of my favorite restaurants for lunch and to my surprise they have gotten even better since my first time. Who would of thought that Ocala has some of the best Korean food in Florida? Haeorum Foods is for sure a diamond in the ruff and we are so lucky to have it in North Central Florida. I went in around 1 p.m, the gas station was pretty busy, but thankfully the inside the not hopping. There was just 1 other group dining in and I. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. They have 1 large menu with pictures of what you are ordering. I decided to ask the girl working the register what she suggests. She made a recommendation for the short ribs, but said they are out of them because they are having some issues getting their supplies. I asked her about Bul Bop and she said she was literally eating it right now. I decided to get that Bul Bop and the Kim Chi Fried Rice. The food came out in Styrofoam containers and it was fresh and tasted great. They gave me a set of chop sticks and I went ham on this food. It was so good! The flavors were bold and rich and you tasted each spice they used in each bite. The portion size was massive and I ate a lot but also took a lot home. The Kim Chi Fried Rice was my absolute favorite. The fried rice had a perfectly cooked egg on top and was wonderful. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you want to step outside of your comfort zone and try something pretty phenomenal, this is the place to do it. read more

Haeorum Foods is a hidden gem in South Ocala, inside of a gas station. Driving by, you'd never know that this place even exists, but you should absolutely make a pit stop. There is a decently sized menu of Korean food, with appetizers and entrees. It's typical Korean food (bibimbap, kimchi fried rice, bulgogi, etc.) with some other interesting offerings, like a bulgogi quesadilla. I had the kimchi fried rice wrap and split a kim bob with my girlfriend. The wrap was huge and tasty, coming with extra sauce and a side of marinated cucumbers that were delicious. I've been coming to Ocala for the past 4 years and this is the first time I've used the Yelp app to see what's near me and what's good. Suprisingly, the app directed me to this restaurant/gas station/convenience store so it had me confused at first. 5 Stars for a Korean restaurant inside a gas station convenient store. In Ocala??!! Yea right... Naturally I scolled through the photos and noticed that they had an array of Korean dishes, and some reallly creative items as well, so then I was even more confused since they're in Ocala, the last place I'd expect to see a legitimate Korean restaurant. Curiosity brought me take a short drive and enter into this convenient store to try their food; the Sunoco gas station has a small plaza attacahed to it that also has a tattoo parlor and other small businesses. Iniside the convenient store you'll find 3 tables of 4 with chairs, along with the usual grab and go items along with tons of beverages, but you'll also find an aisle with mostly Korean snacks and ingredients to make your own authentic Korean dish at home, but we weren't there to pick up any grocery items, we were there to try the food. 5/5 Seafood Pancake $11.99 was really large and full of seafood. Octopus, shrimp, crabmeat (imitation) with a lot of veggies. I didn't expect it to be this large so it's a great value for the price. The sauce that came with it was also excellent. 5/5 Bul Bob $8.99 Bulgogi Beef and veggies served over steamed rice, served with some broccoli and cucumber was also excellent. For the price you pay, it's another winner and great tasting too. One thing I wanted to mention is that the owner strives to bring the hightest quality products to make their food; you'll notice the brand of rice that's on display, KOKUHO, which is one of the highest quality medium grain rice. (I've been to many Korean restaurants that use long grain rice so they can save some money, and that's just an epic fail for the patrons) 5/5 Galbi Bob $11.99 Beef Short Ribs served over vegetables and steamed rice. This dish was excellent, and prepared as if you'd find it in a top notch Korean place in K-Town LA. The meat was super tender and full of the usual Korean flavor. It was served with Kimchi and bean sprouts, and honestly, I seriously didn't expect to find this high caliber Korean food in Ocala, especially not inside a convenient store. There were a total of 8 bones which lends me to believe they used 2 full rows of short ribs. Most Korean restaurants serve 4 rows of short ribs and charge around $25.00 and up, so this place is in line with other Korean restaurants. I also enjoyed an Asian Salad that's complimentary if you check-in on Yelp; the salad was fresh tasting and light; great for an add-on side. Their Kimchi was also excellent! I forgot to take some to go as I noticed they do sell it in a 32oz togo container. Overall experience was excellent and service very friendly; it's a Korean family that owns the business and it looks like everyone works there, and takes great pride in their product which shows the moment you walk in. On my visit, I noticed 6 older Korean couples enjoying their food, which is a testiment how good their food really is, Yelp 5 Star reviews or not! While visiting my Mom in Ocala and looking for gourmet food that is not defined as fast, comfort or fried, I come across this place with the only 5* rating I've ever seen on Yelp. Upon arrival I notice it's in a Gas Station however, I'm not deterred. This Korean Fusion Restaurant was worth the 5* review. The food is both fresh and prepared upon ordering it. The friendly and smiling young gal asked if we wanted mild or spicy. I also render on spicy because it's still never spicy enough‍ I don't recall ever ordering a meal outside of my home that had the exact right amount of both heat & Spice. I usually say, "The sketchier the location, the better the food is." Haeorum is located in a gas station. Sounds pretty sketchy, huh? But believe me, this place is safe and delicious! It's a local family-owned Korean business, which I love. I thought it would be pretty small since it was inside a gas station, but their menu is so extensive! They offer all the classic Korean favorites (tteokbokki, gimbap, Korean fried chicken, etc.), but they also have Korean twists on foods like tacos. The beef taco was filled with bulgogi and was the perfect balance of meat, vegetables, and sauce. I don't know what that sauce was, but it was so good. The shrimp taco wasn't as impressive because I felt like I was just eating a po' boy with fried shrimp, but it was still good in terms of quality. I also really liked that I got a free Asian salad with a Yelp check-in! Service was a little slow, but the quality and the friendly staff made up for it. I definitely recommend this place! read more

I have been dying to try this place since it popped up on yelp. This is a tiny little hole in the wall. You have to literally go out side street to get there. It is actually a quickie mart that now has this Korean food place inside. So the neighborhood where this is located is marginally sketchy. There was some people hanging out in the parking lot in a car with some kids who look like they probably were on drugs but, what do I know? However, I was so excited to find this place, by the Korean family that owns the restaurant, does not have a full selection of bongs and pipes. in a glass case in the doorway like every other quick stop gas station in Florida. When you walk in, I like every other non-giant gas station in Florida, the place does not reek of other herbal remedies. It smelled of delicious food. I tried many things off of the menu, made quite a pig of myself. The employees were just so sweet and friendly and helpful it was unbelievable. I will go out of my way every time I am in Ocala to go to this place it was that nice. The employees were very careful and pack my food in a box because I had a 2 Hour Dr. back to Jacksonville. I tried the chicken and beef tacos and they were both fantastic, I tried a beef bulgogi burrito and it was amazing, also tried some dumplings and some kimchi dumplings, which were interesting and I enjoyed both. The quesadilla was good, although oddly enough it and the burrito and the tacos all came with french fries. The only thing I didn't find to be stellar was the Jap Chae noodles. The recipe normally calls for a tablespoon of sugar, they didn't appear to put any sugar in so that really hindered the flavor. I also got a bowl of Ramen and it was tasty and had all the cute little accoutrement that you come to expect. In the shelves of the little store you can buy some Korean groceries if you would like including a 1 pound bag of ground chilis. Mmm. They have the standard selection of soda and energy drinks and also some interesting Asian beverages. Unusual for a gas station, they also have a water dispenser where you can help yourself, and several small tables and chairs where you can eat the food that you order if you choose Don't pass this up!
