In addition to…read morethe acres of grass, there's a lot to do: a narrow-gauge steam railway provides cheap rides around the park; there's quite a tricky maze to get lost in; and the playground is large and had plenty of equipment where energy can be expended. There's a large car park (although I'm not 100% certain whether it's large enough to cope at peak times) and the place is well sign-posted from the town centre. It was a bit boggy in places when we visited, but then we did go towards the end of a typically wet British summer. All in all, though, well worth a visit.

It is located between Wythenshawe, Baguley, Brooklands, Northern Moor, and Northenden and is easy to access by car or public transport and there's plenty of on site parking.  It's all free to park and use with folks walking with or without dogs, kids playing in the parkland or on the roundabouts swings and slides. It has a working farm and farm shop. There was an ice cream van on site each time we go and it's a wonderful place for festivals, picnics and chilling out if you just want to daydream with nature. There's no shortage of space as it consists of over 100 hectares of open parkland dating from the 13th Century, with historic and ornamental woodlands, open grassland and beautiful wildflower meadows. To give context when Walt Disney bought land in 1965 for DisneyWorld he secured 17 hectares (today its a stunning 47 square miles). The park is steeped in history with the 16th Century Wythenshawe Hall at it's centre. The Hall had a serious fire a few years ago and remains in recovery and closed. The hall, together with the North Lodge and the Statue of Oliver Cromwell are Grade II Listed Buildings.   The park hosts a great range of year-round leisure and educational opportunities for all ages including a varied activities and events programme, with highlights like the annual firework & bonfire extravaganza, fairs, circus, sports and games events.   Here's to the next 800 years.

Inside the hall you'll find a cafe with good sitting space and toilets. If you want a bite, come here - the other two cafes in the site (one at the entrance of the park, one in the petting farm) are overpriced and their offering is not good. And don't forget that there's a maker's market on the last sunday of every month! By far the best option for food in the area.

Basically this place is super cool, situated in lovely woods just through from Cheadle Hulme with an entrance very close to Life Leisure swimming pools - a perfect place to spend a lovely summer day - maybe with friends, maybe with family, maybe with a special someone - or maybe all together at the same time. There's a carpark which was £1 for 2 hours and from here you can walk up to their gardens and park area which are rather secluded but still have plenty of opportunity to sunbathe - in fact there were loads of groups of people when we visited enjoying picnics, ball games and good times - very very chilled atmosphere! There's also a full free BMX track if that floats your boat, a kiddie play ground and a cafe and ice cream huts. Overall a lovely place to spend a nice day - now it's time to zoom off and look at those weather forecasts!

A bus service is available along the A41 to Bromborough and Eastham Village to Eastham Ferry. Once there, there are awesome views across the estuary. The 100 acres of broadleaf woodland are great for walking, birdwatching and orienteering. There is a visitor information centre, rangers office and toilets in the courtyard adjacent to the main carpark. There are a few picnic areas on the open grassland close to the river. There is also a great little Tea Garden which serves refreshments and snacks during spring and summer or if you want something a little more substantial there are two public houses are situated on the riverfront.

Eastham Country park is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful parks on the Wirral. These…read moresprawling 100 acres of woodland are maintained by the Wirral Borough Council. The site of this park was once a Victorian amusement park, and down among the ferns and the azalea bushes you will still find evidence of this bygone carnival: broken fountains, stone steps, ruins of walls, and bear pits. Walking here among the trees in the spring is like walking in a jungle, except that there are neatly kept paths, and fortunately no tigers hiding behind bushes. However, English wildlife is in abundance, and you are very likely to see birds of all kinds including woodpeckers, jays, nuthatches, and wood pigeons, as well as red squirrels, and possibly even hedgehogs, weasels, or foxes. Some of the trees you will see are oak, silver birch, and sycamore. After or before you visit the park, you should really check out the village. Nathaniel Hawthorne once visited the village, and in his journals described it as "the finest old English village [he had] ever seen." There is also visitors centre, a ranger's office, public toilets, and a tea room. To get to Eastham Country Park by train, take the Wirral Line and arrive at Eastham Rake.

There's some beautiful exotic trees, shrubs and flowers to look at. Not least in the rock garden, which is dog free. The rock garden also has its own pond and I swear I've seen terrapins or turtles in there. Nobody ever believes me, though! Throughout the rest of the park, you'll find plenty of benches where you can bask in the sunshine, as well as a great little café, which does the best flapjacks and cakes in the world! There's also a beautiful arboretum that's lovely to sit in and a couple of tennis courts, which seem to be in almost constant use during the summer months! These tennis Courts are sometimes used for open air theatre productions in the summer. I saw Oscar Wilde's The Important of Being Earnest there one year, and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Unfortunately I've never been able to see Oasis or The Stone Roses perform here…read more However, I've had the pleasure of strolling the grounds of this historic park. It is so big and it has so much! A huge playground, bowling greens, football (soccer) pitches, etc. There's a lake with ducks. You can rent a boat to row on the lake. There are cafes. There's an animal section. Lots and lots of places to picnic. Can't forget Heaton Hall! A wonderful way to spend the day.

Walked down the hill past the hall and round the lake, slowing to admire the signets and stop the dog munching all the food left for the birds! Round the other side of the lake, the woods are incredibly quiet; it's easy to forget you're right on the edge of such a large city and the motorway is about a mile away. This is the highest point in the city and the views are amazing.
