It came out amazing! Beautiful color that was so perfectly hand painted into my hair that it looks like I've just been hanging out in the sun and have these naturally beautiful highlights! Looking for a local stylist as I'm fairly new to the area and wanted to have my hair straightened for an event. I'm natural with shaved sides/back (undercut) and stretched my hair is about 8-9 inches long. Browsing Booksy and come across Sherrod McKinney at Nzuri Salon. Checked out his portfolio on the site and his styling capabilities seemed fine and his reviews were good, so I decided to book and give him a try. I booked his service listed for a Shampoo, Deep Condition and Style. Walked up to the salon and Sherrod came to unlock/open the door...I immediately speak to him because I recognized him from his photos on Booksy. He didn't respond, let me in and then said, "You here for Tanya or me?" I responded, "You." He walked back to his chair. I should've have followed my first mind and leave then but I wanted my hair done - HUGE MISTAKE. He motions me to have a seat in his chair and I sit down. He asked what I wanted and showed him a pic and told him I simply wanted my hair straightened. He asked me if I wanted a relaxer and I told him nope - I simply wanted my hair straightened and styled; nothing done to the sides or back of my hair because I would be going to my barber for that. He proceeded to say to me, "Well you know your hair is going to curl back up?" Of course I already know it will if it gets wet but I asked him to further explain what he meant and he stated, "Well as a stylist, it is my job to let you know that your hair won't stay straight unless you keep straightening it." I said I know that it's not going to last but it will last long enough for my event. Again, I should've gotten out of his chair at that very moment. But because I didn't want to come off as difficult, I proceeded with the appt. After removing the banana clip out of my hair so he could wash it, Sherrod told me he thought my hair was a "piece" because the curls were so perfect. That's when I told him yes, it's real...and very thick. He shampooed and deep conditioned my hair. We went back to his chair and he proceeds to blow out my hair. After blowing out my hair, he flat ironed it straight. Next he begins to cut the front of my hair and then leaves the front and cuts out a chunk of my hair (at least 3 inches of hair, leaving my hair from just above neck length to at least 1.5-2 inches above my ear! WTF?! I was like, "Ummm, seems like you're cutting my hair and wayyyy too much." He says with an attitude, "Well you wanted a bang didn't you?!" I told him to turn the chair around so I could see what he had done and OMG!!! When I saw the hair he had cut, I was infuriated! I told him, "No, I did NOT book a CUT. I booked a shampoo and style and TOLD you I wanted my hair straightened. Never did I say I wanted my hair CUT." He kept telling me about the pic I showed him. I looked at him and let him know I wasn't about to argue with him. I IMMEDIATELY asked him how much I owed him and he said, "So you just gonna leave it like that??" I told him, "YES!" and to let me pay him so I can leave. He pulled out his phone and punched in the charge. Crazy thing is Mr. Shernod had the audacity to STILL charge me $45 for a service he not only screwed up but didn't complete. I paid him and left the salon. I'm still in awe about this whole debacle but lesson learned, follow your instincts. The lack of customer service he showed when I walked in the door and the lack of empathy when I practically jumped out of his chair to leave this horrible hair experience were both unfathomable. As a paying customer, I'm disgusted with this stylist and mad at myself for not leaving when I first encountered his less than welcoming demeanor at the door. The fact that he was more concerned with his phone conversation should've tipped me off. And if Sherrod isn't actively LISTENING to his customers when they tell him what they want, I presume he will have more of these types of reviews. Nevertheless, you, Mr. Sherrod McKinney, are NOT the stylist for me.
