Annie is a first class hair stylist and is ON POINT with her presicion and consistency. I was a bit standoffish but for some reason I trusted her (you'll see what I mean when you meet her). She has the absolute American Dream (well what's left) but I listened to her story and am a lifer!!! The cut was PERFECT. I NEVER say that. Not a single piece is off and so balanced. She made my hair to where I could wear it on any side I want. What TALENT. She's in very high demand and if someone wants to know what multitasking looks like, just make an appointment. -My review is solely based on them doing eyebrows. -Why did I wait so long to leave this review? I was pissed and I had too cool off so It wouldn't be full of emotion. -TLDR 2015-2020 Loved this place but starting 2020 till 2023 they were fucking up by eyebrows more then doing them good. I started getting by eyebrows down at hair centric in 2015, LOVED it and was getting my eyebrows waxed CONSISTENTLY (as soon as they were started growing) done from the end of 2015 to mid 2018 and then I would let them grow back before I would get them waxed again. The first time they FUCKED up my eyebrows was 2020 right before the covid lockdown. and ever since then till I stopped going (Augest 2023) they were fucking up my eyebrows or almost letting me walk out with mismatched eyebrows unless I said something even if it was pretty obvious (I know eyebrows aren't going to be twin sisters but they were barley distance cousins) Why did I keep going? 5 years of them doing a great job and knowing other places close by didn't do a good job. They would also do a good job every once in a while so I would HOLD onto that hope but the last time I went they FUCKED up by eyebrow SOOO BAD I had to sit in the car until I stopped crying so I could drive home where I then cried the rest of the day. Even if I would make an appointment they would wait till I was there to heat up the wax so I would have to wait either way. I was excited to try Hair Centric after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately, my hair cut experience here was quite traumatic. I left the salon in tears looking like Edna from the Incredibles. I had asked to get my bangs trim to frame my face and to have my ends cut to add more movement. My bangs came out so blunt, it was embarrassing. I wanted cute soft face framing bangs. This was far from that. My hair stylist, Suki, spent the majority of the time blow drying my hair under high heat and using hot styling tools. I felt like my hair was getting fried. If the hair cut was great, it can stand for itself without so much heat. They tried unsuccessfully fixing my hair. I ended up going to a different salon to fix my hair. After this experience, I will never step foot in Hair Centric again and do not recommend this place. The salon environment was casual and also felt too quiet for a Saturday. read more

This is a mixed review, 1st chair normally is a prime spot for the stylist and customer but skip it! The lady in 1st chair by the window is plenty nice but even the most basic cuts on my teen boys have had to be redone by others in the same shop more than once. I wish I knew everyone's names but I am terrible and only remember faces! Chair 2 & 3 are wonderful, they work so hard and always do a fantastic job. I got my hair colored here and the lady who does the coloring is so relaxed, friendly and very knowledgeable! They have a nice selection of quality products to choose from and their prices are fair on everything. I've been going here for several years now. I've had haircuts from all 3--Annie, Suki, Ratha--and I've been happy every time. Ratha has been so great with coloring my (Asian) hair - I've done mostly rose gold but she's even fixed up a botched dye job I tried to do at home. I can have a million different ideas and trust her to do what looks best. On top of that, they sell the at-home Olaplex treatment (No. 3) for a few bucks less than other retailers like Sephora. I found this pace via Internet research for Asian hair style stylist because I have had enough bad experience with highly recommended (and very costly $60-100 per cut) stylists that just don't know how to deal with Asian hair. Five minutes after getting there and talking with Annie I was completely at ease. I believe she was more excited about getting my hair done then I was. Annie was enthusiastic and a professional. I came here a few days ago with my sister and received the best hair service I've ever gotten. I have Asian hair that can be difficult to work with for other hair stylists, but the woman who did my hair did phenomenal! I couldn't catch her name but she was Vietnamese :) she held a comfortable conversation with me and made sure to ask for consent before doing anything to my hair. She explained everything that she was doing and how to take care of my hair. When she asked how much length I wanted off, I showed her and she nailed it, didn't cut off any more than I wanted. Recently, I attempted to dye my hair back to blonde myself from purple/blue after years of dying it all kinds of different colors on my own, and let me just say, I will NEVER be dying my own hair again, PERIOD. It came out orange, and the blue decided it wasn't going anywhere so I was left with not only damaged hair, but hair that I couldn't even look at in the mirror without crying or being disgusted. I was embarrassed to even leave my house to go anywhere, or go to work!! I didn't want to face anybody with the horrible mistake I've made. I couldn't take it anymore and became desperate to fix it, so I attempted to find a place to re-color my hair and decided this place would be my first stop, as it is only a few minutes from my house. I walked in, and immediately got a consultation. My hair stylist, Rutha, had an appointment that cancelled and told me she could do my hair right there and then. I was immediately RELIEVED that I wouldn't have to wait to fix my horrible hair!! She was so kind and patient, and I can tell she really takes pride in what she does. It took 5 hours, but it was worth it, I really appreciated that she didn't rush it and took her time because it came out beautiful. The cut she did as well was perfect, I was nervous about my hair being shorter as it was already pretty short, but I ended up loving the end results! I also believe the prices are extremely fair, especially for the top notch work they do. I was quoted a lot higher at other places that I had called, and was very happy that what they were asking for was in my price range. There are very few people I let touch my hair. I've been privileged to have Annie be my hairstylist for over 15 years. She used to work at the Hair 4 You location off of Foster Road in Portland. Now she is at this location closer to Gresham. The shop could use a facelift, but don't let that deter you from getting an amazing and affordable haircut from Annie. She is terrific at doing layers and is skilled at cutting fine hair, although she can work with all hair types. I know because after 15 years of being a frequent customer, sitting and observing in the waiting area, I see a great range of people. I never get my hair colored, but if I did, I would definitely go to Annie's because of the great price. A women's haircut and shampoo will cost you between $20-25. This is not unreasonable compared to some of the more commercial places like Regis Salon or Toni & Guy. Annie is super sweet and focused on what she does. She doesn't "over-chat" or get distracted (e.g., talk on the telephone while cutting someone's hair). She has loyal clients that keep coming back for a reason. She does waxing as well. I started to get threading done on my brows and upper lip, but I used to always go to Annie's to get waxed. She never burned me or took too much off my brows. She was always very thorough with the tweezers and gave me great shaping. It seems she always has customers waiting because she's so popular, so it would be wise to make an appointment. However, do not be surprised if you have to wait a little while even if you do have an appointment. It's a one-woman show basically, so you have to cut her some slack. Annie's day off is typically Tuesday, and her friend is there instead, who also does an awesome job. read more

I walked in and was greeted promptly by Suki who was very friendly and really listened to what I wanted. When I asked for an a-line bob, I appreciated the fact that she didn't go too short in the back in the beginning possibly because she noted my hesitation at first. Then she showed me what it looked like and said if I liked it or we could go shorter. She checked in with me several more times before finishing the cut. I was really pleased with the outcome and Suki really listens and takes her time to do a proper job. $20 for a cut, blow dry and style. Unfortunately, I'm only in Portland twice a year, but I'll definitely come back when I'm in town. The salon could use a little more TLC but overall pretty good for the price and location. read more

This place is an awesome value! I've seen both Ratha and Suki and had a very pleasant experience each time. I only get my hair cut here, no color so can't vouch for that. Both these ladies are patient and very good at what they do. They listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered. This is a no frills establishment however.
