Wish I had been told Hair Cuttery now charges salon prices. $67 for a basic shampoo/cut/blowdry. Didn't change my style. My hair was long and she took about 4-5" off, but there's absolutely nothing complicated about the straight style. I did not expect to pay that much at this place! I'm new to the area and am always nervous to try new stylists. My hair was driving me crazy though so I found the soonest appointment I could, which was with Crystal at Hair Cuttery. I have long hair with balayage which you think would be hard to mess up, but it's happened a lot! I brought Crystal an inspo pic and she got right to work. She's very personable and easy going, worked quickly and explained what she was doing. My hair takes a long time to color, but she finished in about 3 hours--which is on the low end ha. And I love it! The color is perfect, she only cut length where she had to and the layers are even and not chunky. I would definitely recommend her to a friend! read more

Requested a two tone dye job and stacked bob... it's the worst haircut and dye job I've ever had including what I've done myself as a teenager. Three visits and three different stylists all confident they could do it but it just kept getting worse. The vibe was positive each stylist saying the other was doing a great job. I brought my daughter in so she and I could get shampoos and cuts (my daughter wanted layers, I just wanted a basic trim). Ms. Taije took my daughter and chopped off her hair, without layers (unless you call an extremely uneven hack job "layers"). She has her junior ball coming up and has literally been in tears the last three days because of how awful her hair looks. For me, I got the young girl (I can't remember her name, but she was very, very young) who left me under a hair dryer for more than the 10 minutes she was supposed to so she could go cut another customer's hair first. Overall, we were very unhappy with the experience and would absolutely NOT recommend this location to anyone! If I could go back and rescind the tip I left I would. Please do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE but this location. read more

I was in a panic to get an updo- last minute invite to a Black Tie event for New Years Eve. Had no idea who to call, so I put out an alert to my Facebook friends. One of them contacted Amber at Hair Cuttery, who put me in touch with Andrea. She called her their updo specialist and assured me I would be pleased. To say "pleased" in an understatement. I am thrilled. Not only with the updo, but also with the wonderful customer service. They got me the time I needed (as late in the day as possible) and everyone was so friendly when I arrived. Andrea tried several styles before finding something she liked, and made adjustments so it would stay in place for many hours. Booked an appointment for any stylist because I just needed a simple trim, not a cut or shampoo or anything else. I get there and the person who I was assigned was "not comfortable" doing my hair (she didn't say it was because I was Black, but what other reason would it be?) My hair was already washed and bone straight when I got there to prep in advance, so I didn't understand her issue. She pointed out the only Black stylist in the place to trim my hair, so I had to wait until she was done with someone else, while the other stylist went on to help the next non-ethnic patron. Although the signature cut includes shampoo and conditioning, anyone with Black textured hair knows you can't shampoo our hair then cut it well without a lot of additional time and effort and you'd look like a hot mess if you cut it first then shampooed without more time and effort. Either way it's a rip off because there is no price structure for a simple trim and they need better trained stylist who can manage more than one hair type. read more

Haircuts are ok, but when I was in there this afternoon, one of the two haircutters was sitting in a chair, looking in a mirror, cutting her own hair. At the same time, somebody who was not employed by the business, I don't know who she was, was sitting on the floor in the corner playing with her baby. Not a very professional place at all. What was remarkable to me was how Bree washed & blowed dry the hair of an elderly lady who came in after me who seemed to have memory loss. An employee was going through bottles on the shelves to get rid of old products. The stylists were nice. They waited to grumble about customers until they went outside. They had no idea I was shopping nearby and could hear them. Hubby's haircut was decent. The stylist didn't wash out all of the shampoo from his hair, which made it look greasy. Sade did a root color and all over toner, and some sort of magical hair conditioner that left my hair sooo soft (and this is after bleaching!!). She was AMAZING. My hair came out PERFECT. Came in for a shampoo and haircut. I get that they are busy but this is the business they're in! Stylist did a fine job cutting the hair, then she removed the smock, popped my collar and said "okay we're done." Then at the register she charged me for a cut and shampoo. I said I didn't get the shampoo and the employee said "were required to charge everyone for that...there's only one price." When I questioned it she acted put out and said "we can shampoo your hair if you really want us to." No thank you...I'd hate to inconvenience your employees! Must be luxurious ripping off the public for services you charge for but don't actually deliver. read more

So I haven't had my hair done in 18 months, because in that time I've moved countries and States twice. Now that I've settled here in the State for Lovers, with my lover (great story, btw, but that's for another day), my hair has been getting longer and rattier than ever. My old man turned me onto his buddy, Mia, and we became great bar buddies. As you know, it's hard to find a new hairdresser especially one you can trust. Over the months, I got to know her and saw some of her work firsthand. A couple weeks ago I came across a haircut I loved, and so made an appointment with Mia and took the plunge. Omg, she did an amazing job and I think she was more excited than I was as she did me "off mirror". Totally made me feel at ease, cos I was nervous as all hell, and although we know each other she was also very professional - and that's a thing for me. If I'm going to to a friend for a job, I expect the same level of professionalism as if I was hiring an unknown. I went here for a hair colouring and had the absolute time of my life. My barber (?), Michaela, was very engaging and extremely personable; we got along so well! She and I had such a great conversation. She did such a great job on colouring my hair and was very thorough not only with her work but explaining the maintenance of keeping the colour. Horrid stylist. Stephanie was very polite to start, but did not seem to listen to my request. I requested just cut the sides and we'll see how the top looks with it. Immediately after cutting the sides, she takes scissors to the top and takes off an inch. I mentioned the length was fine and she needed to stop, but she continued to "shape" it. I go to Lindsay B. for my coloring, cuts and blow drys. She does an awesome job and listens to what you want, only making gentle suggestions as necessary. She really knows color techniques. Rudest experience I have ever had in Williamsburg. The stylist gave no greeting, snapped at my son, then argued with me because I didn't know what number clipper to use. When I asked for a different stylist the woman at the front desk defended the stylist. No apologies, they just walked away. The salon next door immediately fit him in for an appointment, smiled at us when we came through the door, were friendly, accommodating and took the time to talk to my son and ask him what he wanted. I was here just the other day, and I've got to say I had an AMAZING experience. Tina did an amazing job! She was friendly and communicative, seemed to figure out exactly what I wanted with my hardly even having to explain, and yet she still made sure to check up with me as we were going. It was obvious the most important thing to her was that I was happy with my new cut. And oh boy, am I ever. Understaffed. Sat 45 minutes waiting while people came in and "jumped my place in line". Asked why and was informed you could call ahead. Waited 10 more minutes and was bumped again so I left. Decided to use the call ahead option next time. Called in and was told "we don't have call ahead". Explained what happened to me last time and the lady explained that "maybe some stylists take appointments". Gave this place the benefit of the doubt on several other occasions but almost always end up frustrated due to some delay, special procedure, or other condition that is apparently determined by whoever is working at the moment. On the plus side, the handful of times I fidget a timely haircut, they did a good job. If your time is valuable there are lots of other places within a mile. read more
