Though there ARE opportunities to sit a spell, people watching here might be limited (if that's your thing) as the hallway around the market is more narrow and doesn't have much room to sit and only one or two stalls have seating areas. Service at each business is fast as it can be for a popular place and of course the value for your spend might be limited as well because there are tourists everywhere! There was very little seating outside of the few shops that have it built in (which can only be used by their customers) and the shops are on the smaller side and a little more touristy than you'd expect. Another friendly reminder that Reindeer jerky can't be brought into the US, so if you do purchase it here, make sure to eat it before you get on the plane to head home. All in all it's a cute little food hall with an okay selection, but we liked the ones in Stockholm and Copenhagen better since they were larger and more of a deli style.

The market here is open pretty much everyday (except in the winter when they are limited to fewer…read moreshops indoor) and is one of the tourist spot to stop by, either for a regular city tour or while waiting for a ferry to Suomenlinna. The shops sell things ranging from crafts and souvenir to fresh produces like berries and veggies and cafe food. It's a nice quick stroll to see Helsinki life :) (though many tourists come here more than locals I think). Pluses are that there's no entrance fee but, as a big foodie fan, I wish they have more selection for edible food to try out!

This is a food hall with class. If you love fresh seafood, great cakes and berries then get in there. The irony is that it's genuinely easy to traverse the city center. The Yelp app plus the city's enormously efficient public transit certainly helped us to get to some interesting spots like this food hall which has a distinctly American vibe to it. Of course, my bias probably comes from being an American, but it did remind me of Chelsea Market in NYC, Pike Place Market in Seattle, and as Autumn mentioned, the Ferry Building in San Francisco. It's full of mostly culinary vendors reflecting how diverse the Finnish palate is. I frequent the flea market because I'm cheap like that. I buy my produce at the Kauppahalli because I'm not cheap like that. The produce is beautiful, there is a huge array of sweets, treats, and food stalls/cafes. The cupcake lady, the Spanish delicacy stand, and the juice bar are favorites. Robert's coffee is not. But that's my bone to pick and I'll review where a review is due: on their Yelp page. I have it on good authority that Roslun makes the best burgers in town (I'm a vegetarian) and that the ramen shop is pretty good too. I can vouch for the French Cafe and the classic Finnish cafeteria in the back. They are the only place that has baby seats. That's good to know if you have a kid who needs one of those. This is the perfect place to go as a local (for the staples and some treats or a quick lunch/snack out with friends away from the city center) or tourists (it is teeming with them in the Summer). It's a go-to for friends visiting from out of town; flea market then market hall = a good 3 hours of your day knocked out in one small space. Highly recommend the fresh fruits and veggies, meats, fish, cheese, breads, pastries, and sweets. The kitschy tourist-y stuff can be good too. I really like the olive oil soaps that one of the stalls sells. Overall, I am really thankful they're here and so close to home. Because a girl can live on cucumber, tomatoes, and apples from S Market for only so long ;)
