The market here is open pretty much everyday (except in the winter when they are limited to fewer…read moreshops indoor) and is one of the tourist spot to stop by, either for a regular city tour or while waiting for a ferry to Suomenlinna. The shops sell things ranging from crafts and souvenir to fresh produces like berries and veggies and cafe food. It's a nice quick stroll to see Helsinki life :) (though many tourists come here more than locals I think). Pluses are that there's no entrance fee but, as a big foodie fan, I wish they have more selection for edible food to try out!

I pretty much needed to go. Although Mikko warned me several times that I really wouldn't be missing anything, and although I read his 1-star review beforehand, I still insisted on going. Being the gracious Yelp CM that he is, he humored my request for "burgers" topped by condiment "udders." All I'll say is... he was right. This is more than just drunk food... it's blackout food-- as you definitely won't want to remember eating there ever again.

Yes, this even includes the awesome ones in Lappeenranta at the market square. The lihapiirakka themselves will never pass for home-made, but they are grilled up crisp, and the topings are also grilled fresh. The onion is a little on the hot side, but thats ok. Topings are added as you ask for them, just a little, no problem. Every time I go back to Finland we go there at least once. Much love for this little roadside stand. Truly, the best lihapiirakka in Finland, or at least that I have found so far. Also, near a park so its actually a great location also to have for a picnic.

Bonus that this has restrooms and is inside - a great way to get out of the cold! Though there ARE opportunities to sit a spell, people watching here might be limited (if that's your thing) as the hallway around the market is more narrow and doesn't have much room to sit and only one or two stalls have seating areas. Service at each business is fast as it can be for a popular place and of course the value for your spend might be limited as well because there are tourists everywhere! Everything is gluten free and healthy. We shared the reindeer potato with blue cheese and lingonberry at the suggestion of the server. Also added pickles and beet slaw. This was very good. We also had a cheese cake and sponge cake from two other vendors. We had hoped to go here twice but ran out of time as the close at 6:00 and we couldn't get back in time for a second round.
