CHEERS TO MORE BEER | i finally checked out Halfway Crooks and since we had the pup, we ended up out in the backyard biergarten. It's a cool spot of repurposed shipping containers surrounding a rocky lot full of seating and plenty of standing room. I'm a hazy IPA girl so of course I had to try the H.A.I.Z.Y Age (if you recognize this beer you'll realize the last time I was here lol) but it was an easy drinking beer while sitting outside on a sunny summer day. They also have a super tasty grapefruit Radler that is perfect if you're not super into the taste of beer but still want to partake. Next time I'll definitely need to stop in for food and check out the rooftop patio! read more

Grateful to have a Belgian spot in ATL. it's wonderful! Fries are an authentic, must-order. They're crispy and prepared for your aioli/ mayo consumption. Super unfortunately they were out of the sacred Stoeffles, which was devastating, but apparently rare, so we're looking forward to going back to get that! What a perfect start to our day exploring the Summerhill neighborhood! We kicked things off in the beer garden at Halfway Crooks, and it was such a vibe -- plenty of seating, super clean bathrooms (always a plus), and friendly, attentive service that made us feel right at home. After enjoying the outdoor space, we headed inside for some food and another round. We both ordered the Cerné Pivo -- a Czech-style black lager that was surprisingly light, smooth, and incredibly drinkable. Highly recommend if you're looking for something flavorful but not heavy. Now let's talk about the food. We got the schnitzel plates and the charred broccoli Caesar salad to share. The schnitzel came with a warm potato salad tossed with arugula and some sort of aioli, plus a side of collard green kimchi. It was hands down the standout dish -- crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. No exaggeration, my friend and I seriously considered coming back the very next day just to eat it again! read more

If I could give this brewery 10 stars, I would. Upon walking in, they have a cute chill area and bar downstairs. An employee told me they have a rooftop and it was a gorgeous day outside so we decided to go up. It's a semi covered roof top so you still get some sun but not direct. Super cute and airy vibes with chill music playing in the background. I ordered the Ubik IPA that so so good, no after taste. My mom ordered the Shell, it was more like a stout dark beer, she loved it. To eat we shared the Wet Lemon Pepper wings, Chicory Salad and Sausage. I absolutely loved the wings, perfect taste, it also came with house made blue cheese to dip. The salad was different since it had squash but it was light and perfect for the day. My mom ate the sausage with mustard dressing. She kept on saying she would come back for that meal and beer. Across the street they have a Beirgarten (beer garden) that had some food vendors in containers, a small stage and seating under trees. They were going to have a stein holding contest but we had to leave back to the airport to go home. Next time, this place is awesome! You can find Halfway Crooks Beer at 60 Georgia Ave SE Atlanta, GA 30312. This is about two blocks from the old Braves stadium between Frasier and Reed Streets. There's some on street parking but really, several lots behind businesses are your best bet - just avoid the lots that have signs "parking for X only" and you should be find. Many of the businesses are closed on weekends so it's a great time to drop by, especially early afternoon. I've visited this great brewpub on several occasions, going back to the first month it opened. At that time it occupied this classic red brick building with a nice bottom floor bar with additional seating upstairs. The menu was fairly simple and the beers were heavy on the lager side. Since then they've expanded a bit with a Beer Garden across a side street (it's surrounding by brightly painted containers). While the main location has food, I've found different offerings from the Beer Garden including a pretty great smash burger. Also try the Lemon Pepper Wet Wings from inside. These are the beers I've tried (note that Halfway Crooks prides itself if more traditional beer recipes): * Sanguine - Pale Ale - Belgian 4.8% - Very solid Belgian with typical spicy banana nose. Light slammable body and dry finish. * Cassonade Quad - Belgian Quadrupel 10.5% - Tasty with notes of dark fruit in an earthy, malty body. A touch of banana nose and brown sugar, awesome lacing and a dry finish. * Kelvin - Lager - Smoked 4.8% - Slightly smoky competent Helles lager. * Distributed Denial of Service (with Burial Brewing) - Kellerbier 5% - Quite good kellerbier, hoppy body with well balanced profile and dry finish. * Less Data - Pale Ale - American 5.2% - Quite good hazy pale ale, fairly easy drinking with hops throughout and citrus notes of papaya and guava, with a dry hoppy finish. * Settings - Pale Ale - American 5.2% - Quite good hazy pale ale, dry clean hoppy body with citrus notes, very easy drinking and a great go-to beer. * Fair Day - IPA - Imperial 8% - Tasty, reminds me a bit of Orpheus' venerable Transmigration of Souls, slightly malty body with notes of stone fruit, piney nose and a burst of hops bitterness to balance thins out. * Farina - Kolsch 4.8% - Quite competent kolsch, nice malt to hops balance, a bit dry, very easy drinking. * Ubik - IPA - American 6.8% - What would Philip K. dick say? Fruity dry body with tropical notes, beautiful lacing. Finishing hoppy and bitter. * Descent - Stout - Russian Imperial 13% - My favorite thus far - Fantastic, big creamy chocolate note up front with mild barrel, transforms into a beautiful tiramisu with great balance and a hint of alcohol booziness in the finish. * Whole Cone Active Low - Pilsner - German 4.9% - Very easy drinking, good amount of hoppy bitterness, light bready body slightly dry. The service here is really fantastic, whether you're ordering from the counter at the Beer Garden, sitting at the great bar downstairs, or sitting in the upstairs room (remarkable how fast you get beer up here). In all this is one of the best beerpub experiences you'll encounter in Atlanta, with a great beer selection. read more

Probably the worst service I've had at an Atlanta bar. When I was here there were 4 other patrons, yet it took about 20 minutes to get our order taken. After we finished it took another 20 minutes or so to get the waitress' attention. Honestly pretty disappointed by how poor the service was read more

We asked our server if we could upgrade our fries to the parm ones and he cut in and cut her off and was very snippy about it saying "there's not a button in the machine to do that, no substations." I visited Halfway Crooks for the first time this past Saturday, and I was very impressed. This whole area that Halfway Crooks is in, looks immensely different than it did a few years ago. This whole Summerhill area is filled with new shops, restaurants, etc. It's located right near the old Braves stadium, now Georgia State University's stadium. We sat upstairs and had a few beers and some food. I am not the biggest fan of IPA beers, but I found one that didn't taste so heavy, I can't remember the name unfortunately. We also just grabbed some snacks as we were a little hungry. We got the truffle fries and hummus. Both were pretty good, and were a great pairing to our beers. They have quite a few other food options as well, so you should be able to find something that you will enjoy eating. I highly recommend coming to halfway crooks with some friends and enjoying a few beers. It's a pretty cool place to hang out at and chill with some friends. We were immediately able to seat ourselves in the cozy, computer-themed taproom, which felt welcoming and had a cool seasonal ambiance (though note to future visitors: the menu rotates, so don't get too attached to one appetizer!). We kept our order quick, grabbing the Belgian Fries ($8.95) and Buffalo Wings ($15.95), paired with an Espresso Martini ($12.95) and a Hennessy Margarita ($15.95). Everything arrived hot within 15 minutes. The fries were generously portioned, crunchy, and perfectly salted. The wings, though a bit small (8 count), were cooked to perfection--tender and flavorful even before dipping into the side of house-made buffalo sauce. A major highlight was the array of incredibly flavorful house sauces, including a great house aioli and a fantastic, non-gloopy blue cheese, which elevated the entire meal.We highly recommend Halfway Crooks for a casual hang or a place to grab quality drinks and excellent pub fare. Heading down to Florida, I stopped in the Atlanta area. Halfway Crooks was one of the three that were recommended in the area. Glad I stopped. One issue with this place, like a couple of other Atlanta breweries, is finding a parking space that is not reserved. There are lots within a reasonable distance that are free, but you also have a few blocks. I can imagine it is a hindrance on popular nights. I don't fault the brewery for tihs. The atmosphere is rather chill. There is a bar down ine side, tables along the other, and rooftop seating upstairs. If you are not at the bar, you can order from your table via QR code and get food and beer delivered to your table. As their beers are rather carbonated and they aim for a good "Queen Anne's lace", they use a three pour method, so standing and waiting can take a bit of time. It is a good thing, as the beer pours are awesome. Halfway Crooks is definitely one of Atlanta's best, at least from my experience (albeit, experience a bit limited). Their primary wheelhouse is European (German) lagered beers, but I found the IPAs and sours to be equally good. They had a few anniversary beers when I was there, which was a nice addition for me. Love a great one off. Food follows the theme and there is a lot of menu items served with Belgian fries. I opted for a modern Berlin favorite, the Currywurst. Paired very well with the Whole Cone Active Low, a German Pils, and Collier, a Grisette (not so much with the pale ale). Enjoyed the currywurst, although it is rich enough I could not do it very often. Fries very nicely done. If I have one complaint that sticks out, I would prefer a place that also does small pours and/or flights. Not a major knock, and seems to be common with Atlanta breweries, but having the option to sample more beers without risking intoxication is a nice thing for me. read more

We were in Atlanta this past weekend for the hops in the hangar and our party had no restaurants/brewery planned before our event. as we were driving towards Downtown Atlanta on a Saturday afternoon to get lunch the traffic was so bad, I knew I have to find a quick lunch for our group right away lol, I was googling restaurants near me and nothing caught my eye and then finally I used the YELP app and search for brewery near me and Halfway Crooks Beer pop, I looked and it was less than 1 mile away from where we at. to be honest I was not sure what to expect at this brewery but I saw on the menu that they have food and beer and that is what we needed. The location for this brewery is close to the old baseball stadium, parking can be tricky but we parked on the free retail parking. this area is so cute, they have different places to eat and shop. Definitely worth visiting while in Atlanta. We got to the brewery, we were greeted right away and seated. You don't get an actual server for your table, you actually have to order your food online (you have to scan your phone and the menu pops! very easy :) ) Surprisingly they have a lot to offer, from beers and food and I was actually a little adamant that we have to order our own food but the service was actually really good and fast! we ordered pretzel, my husband ordered the burger and I ordered the chili hotdog and the waffle with apple as for the drinks i ordered Radler beer and sadly I couldn't remember what my husband ordered but he got the dark beer and he loves it! First: there is no table service. You order at the counter or through an app. The servers bring your order, but you must get everything else ( cup of water, utensils, napkins, etc.) yourself. Nobody greets you, and no one will check on you to see if your order is right (ours wasn't) or if you need anything (we did). The two servers we tried to get help from seemed confused and/or annoyed by our requests If you order through the app, you will automatically be charged a 5% fee that's meant to ensure minimum living wage and provide insurance for staff. This is annoying to me as a customer because it should be on the restaurant to provide a living wage and insurance; it should not be an added fee to the customer. If you insist on making customers pay for something you as an employer should be providing , then get rid of tipping, raise your food prices by 5%, and use that money.. I have no problem with tipping , but expecting me to pay an extra 5% on top of the tip when you don't even provide full table service is offensive. Finally, the food. We ordered a pretzel with beer cheese, the curry wurst a burger, and "Belgian fries" as well as two beers. The Pretzel was okay but the beer cheese was greasy and disgusting and not worth the $2 extra they charge for it The fries were so undercooked and nothing like Belgian fries, which are super crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. These are closer to what you might get at Burger King. The bratwurst was decent, but the curry sauce was so unbelievably sweet that the sugar masked any other flavors that might have been used. The burger was unimpressive, and the beer had so much foam that we really only got 2/3 glass each. I lived in Germany for a long time and was looking forward to trying this spot and re-living my beerhall days. This place was a complete disappointment. Mostly a dud. Was looking forward to trying this place all week! Then came tonight and it made me feel absolutely no reason to come back. Beer is only so-so: the tripel has the texture of what it's supposed to be, but not the deep, rich flavor. The atmosphere is forgettable (like every other brewery) and the beer was uninspiring. It sucks: I really wanted to like this place! The experience is somewhere between bad and average. You walk into this place and have no interaction with actual human beings. You order from your phone and type your credit card info in and then someone slams beers down in front of you. They don't speak to you at all. It's bizarre and I didn't care for it. They also give you about 10 ounces of beer in a "pint" when it's all foam. With some beers, it's supposed to be like that, but not really with an IPA. It felt they were trying to give you 2/3 of a beer. When there isn't even a bartender around, you feel like you're getting taken advantage of by a website. Was planning to spend the evening here, but had two beers and then dipped. Go to Elsewhere and Eventide instead. They're much, much better. Also, the beer menu is super limited here. If you like lagers, you'll be all set. If not, you're kind of out of much. The IPA that I tried was way below average. The tripel is worth a shot though. read more

I'm here on a Saturday afternoon. A lot of reviews spoke to WR code ordering. I actually received menus and interacted with the bar staff. The key is to sit at the bar. Not realistic for everyone. I tasted a few beers and they're all good. However, if you want hoppy IPAs (my favorite) or flavorful stouts, this is not your place. I give 2 thumbs up to the Seconds, which is a lightly peach finished farmhouse ale. It has just enough funk and grassy flavor of a farmhouse only slightly softened by a light peach undertone. The bubbles are amazing. Drink this beer through the head. The other double thumb goes to the Themes. It's a west coast pale ale that tastes great and the aromas of the Simcoe hood...top notch. read more

It's so creative putting menu barcodes on floppy disks! Everything is done via the website from the QR code, which is super efficient. I was in the area and overheard someone suggest HCB so I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. When you come in you enter a large dining area and order at the counter. From there they give you a number and you find a seat. I was told they also have seating upstairs but I decided to sit at the bar. While I waited for my food I chatted with a couple of guys who came in and sat next to me. Needles to say the food was very food. Emphasis on very. Also the service was great. I'm not a drinker so I was able to sample a beer. I understand HCB has only been open six months so maybe next time I can enjoy a beer.
