I attended Grammar all the way through, from primary to Grade 12. The more I look back on my years…read morethere, the more I am convinced it is one of the finest schools in the country. Contrary to popular belief, it is not full of rich, snobby kids, but instead students who are kind, talented, accomplished, creative, and mature (many of whom do admittedly come from wealthy families). The school prepares you phenomenally well for university, mostly in terms of learning what to value and how to work hard. The student-teacher relationship is unparalleled. An example- students have some teachers' cell numbers, and the teachers are for the most part available to help out with questions at all times, even visiting the library past midnight to aid with exam studying. HGS is no doubt rigorous academically, but the tight-knit community and interested and interesting teachers go far beyond their duties to create incredible men and women. I can not say enough about Grammar.

I've only ever been to Armbrae for one reason - to play sports in their gymnasium. From having…read moreplayed sports in almost every school gym in the Halifax area, I can honestly say that Armbrae is one of my favorites. Its newly built gymnasium/ multi-purpose centre is phenomenal! It nice and large - about twice the size of an average gym, with exceptionally high ceilings, quality equipment and modern design. The gym is always very clean and well taken care of. The only problem we sometimes experience is when one of our balls land on the 2nd level, as we don't have access to the staircase, but somehow always manage to get them down.

Pros and Cons: Armbrae junior school has a relatively small class size (18 kids), and plan to recruit teacher assistants (8 AM-12 noon) for younger grades starting Sept 2017. They have an afterschool program until 5 30 PM, which is included within the tuition fees. The director of the junior school was enthusiastic and kind but seemed somewhat inexperienced. Both the junior school director and the primary grade teacher have their kids at school, and appeared to have vested interest in making positive changes to the school. They have a large gym but unfortunately both the gym and music room are detached from the main building (need to dress us in winter clothes to walk over there from main building). The senior school does not have and IB program and kids don't do as well in national math competition compared with HGS. Admission Process: The director of the junior school took the time to answer our questions and accompany us on a school tour, but the school did not seem very well prepared for parent visits (e.g. met in hallway on two separate occasions with no private place to talk). Unfortunately, the admission process itself at Armbrae went horribly wrong. We were given false information regarding the admission process / wait list by the junior school director and the headmaster admin assistant. We were told there is a guaranteed spot for our kid if we elect to enroll pending satisfactory evaluation. We were made to go through the whole process of application / kid interview, to be sent a letter by mail later offering us a spot on the wait list as there are actually no spots available. The director of the junior school honestly took responsibility for his own wrong doing in this matter (providing false information, withholding relevant updates, and lack of courtesy to parents), while the headmaster dishonestly tried to fully deflect the blame on more junior members.

Our daughter can't stop talking about everything she does while at daycare; between playing hide-and-seek in the playground to all the running games and slides, to playing with her friends and doing arts and crafts, she loves it there. Ayesha always sends pictures to us while they're playing; our daughter is always excited to come home and look at the pictures of her with her friends. Our daughter looks forward to going to Ayesha's each day and she is always happy when we pick her up, happily jumping around, singing and dancing, full of life, brimming with energy. "A great teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart." Ayesha has indeed made my daughter highly independent. Since my child joined Ayesha's daycare her level of confidence and cognitive and motor skills have improved. She now wears her own shoes, socks, gloves, jacket, is potty trained and can use toilet independently, knows how eat and drink by herself using fork and spoon, speaks very clearly, using sentences of five or more words, tells a story in complete sentences, understands the concept of time, knows how to recite poems, songs, stories, and rhymes, and to our surprise, she even baked a pizza for us at home and boxed it. She tells us about all the projects she did at the daycare pointing at each one of them in the activity book Ayesha sends home every Friday (particularly the snowman project), and we were so happy to learn that she has learnt so much. Special mention to the Father's Day project, our daddy is super happy to see #1 Best Dad in the world project that she did. Always puts a smile on his face when he sees it . She is ready to advance to preschool with confidence now and that's how incredible Ayesha has been. I think a role model is a mentor - someone you see daily, and you learn from them. Our daughter has indeed learnt a lot from Ayesha, and we are very grateful for the friendly atmosphere Ayesha provides at her daycare and sending our daughter to Ayesha has been the best decision for our lives. It's been an incredible experience for both us parents as well as the child. We feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful childcare provider.
