1. To pay with a card, you must pay the fee. 2. When trimming with a weed eater, your sidewalk, drive, etc. edges are scalped, bald, not cleanly "trimmed". 3. There is a lot of room for improvement in the area of communication re: I said do not weed eat my clover as I am converting the yard from grass to clover, did you damage this? No, it was like that? (100% no, it was not, I know it was not damaged before you mowed there) 4. They were a referral, and my friends did not understand why I was so annoyed until they had someone other than Larry do their lawn a few times and butchered it. I sang the "I told you so" song while dancing in front of them. 5. You may never have these issues, and if not, then I am happy for you. As an adult with a disability who also happens to be a homeowner, I thrive on being as independent as humanly possible. That said, I've learned the hard way that certain tasks are beyond my ability and mowing my nearly 1/2 acre lawn happens to be one of them. Trust me, I've tried. I've tried with a push mower. I'm already without feet and I had this weird feeling if I kept going that I'd eventually lose 1-2 more limbs. I tried with an old school manual-type mower. I broke it in one humiliating and failed attempt at mowing my lawn. I haven't tried it with a riding mower because, well, most require that you actually have feet to use the gas. I've gotten by through the generosity of friends and church members, though as I get older so do they and in the last couple of years it has become increasingly hard to track down folks who want to come over on a regular basis and mow my lawn. Last year, it got ugly. I think most of my friends were torn between "I'm tired of mowing Richard's lawn" and "I don't quite want to ask him to pay me to mow his lawn." So, the lawn got really, REALLY long before one dear neighbor complained (sarcasm noted) and my dear friends at the city served notice that perhaps I ought to mow it before it got taller than the house. Fortunately, in a critical pinch I had some friends come over and rescue me from the situation before it turned into an overly negative situation, but it finally made me look at how I'd been living from week-to-week in terms of lawn care for far too long. So, I set out to find someone who was honest, fair, reasonably priced and conscientious. Enter Larry Poe and HALL Services. The "HALL" stands for Handyman and Lawn Landscape Services. I used Thumbtack to put out for bids to mow my lawn and received several responses. The prices ranged from "so cheap that I don't trust the quality" to "beyond my reach." Poe was pretty much in the middle. I directly responded to three and found myself impressed with Poe's honesty, thoughtfulness, reasonable price and willingness to give a fairly clear schedule. I've now used HALL and Larry Poe for the entire mowing season and I've been consistently happy. From what I can gather, it's a small operation and he primarily focuses on the Eastside of Central Indiana but will consider other areas in the right situation. From what I've seen, he is careful to not overly commit himself and won't take a job he can't fulfill to the utmost quality. I happen to live in practically a perfect area for him to serve. HALL doesn't necessarily have all the razzle dazzle equipment of some companies, but what he offers in personalized service more than makes up for it. I received a timely quote, follow up on that quote, an agreed upon day with an awareness that it may flex from time to time, and a way to contact him with any concerns. He prefers to submit billing via e-mail, but will also invoice monthly. He does not ask for and actually will not do long-term contracts. He accepts payment by cash, checks and Paypal and from what I've seen typically bills within 24-48 hours of the last agreed upon service for the month. We agreed that my lawn would be mowed every other week. During one week, he missed due to some personal issues BUT he followed up with those impacted and explained everything and explained how he would be addressing it. Personally? I thought it was perfect and conscientious. The quality has been stellar on a consistent basis. I've never questioned if he would arrive and I've never seen a finished job and thought "I wish he would have done this." In fact, there's been more than once I thought "He did more than I expected" in terms of trimming, etc. I've only actually met him in person once this season and found him to be friendly and helpful. He also offers, as you might guess, handyman services ranging from fencing, decks, Christmas light installation and other services. From his website, it notes that he tends to avoid roofing type work. While I haven't used him for handyman type work so far, given how happy I've been with his care of my lawn I'm already considering other possible jobs. If you really want to hire someone trustworthy, local, truly indie and who does quality work I'd definitely recommend Larry Poe and HALL Services. read more

My wife and hired Larry several years ago to do our Christmas lights. The first couple years Larry did a great job. We loved our Christmas lights on our favorite holiday. We would always get our lights up as early as Larry did it. Then a couple years ago we noticed that the communication and customer service started to go down hill. Larry blamed it on new software to his lawn business and losing peoples current contact info. We then worked out the updates and proceeded on getting our lights at a much later date. Then the following year we were very excited to get our lights up and not get them late in the month. We became proactive to pay so that we could get our lights up early. We were then billed at a higher price with no notice. We ask why we were not notified and Larry made it sound that it was customary. I have been in the business World many years. With any price increase you notify the customer. I totally get cost go up. We came home and only half our lights were up or less after we paid the higher price increase. That year we had to cut our pine tree down because of it being dead. Larry stated he made a judgement call and decided to take our lights and move on. We had two other tree within ten feet that Larry could have put them on or give a partial refund. Larry did neither. This year we notified Larry at the beginning around December 2 we would like our lights. We we're not going to hire Larry or use his services. Larry stated he was extremely busy and they were on the truck. Long story short as of today we have not gotten our lights. I would not recommend this business at all. Extremely poor communication, poor service. Larry still has our still has our lights. We lost out on enjoying our favorite holiday this year with our beautiful lights. read more

This is a tough review to write because I know the more reviews Larry gets the less time he will have for me but Larry is very much deserving of it. I own an apartment building in Indianapolis and Larry has really stepped up to plate and helped me manage the building and take care of a lot of issues that were lingering here. I would highly recommend Larry as he does a great job, really thinks about what he is doing and trys to help. read more

Hall Services is a great professional resource for homeowners. I have found Larry to be dependable and trustworthy to do the job right at an affordable price. I use to be determined that I can do it all but it was taking me much longer to do a job around the house when I could have Hall Services do it better and faster. Extremely disappointed in both professionalism and disregard for a customer. Larry (the owner) and I agreed that he would arrive for some work on a designated afternoon/early evening. It was not until after 6pm that Wednesday evening that he sent me the following email: "I'm so sorry, but my job for today got stretched longer than I had intended. I won't be able to get there this evening. Depending on the weather, hopefully we can Fri or Sat. Let me know if that will work for you." Within 30 minutes of receiving that email, I responded, indicating that the job would need to be done on Friday and asking him to let me know when he would arrive so that I could plan my work day. I never got a response. Early on Friday morning, I again reached out to Larry asking what time I could expect him that day. Again, I received absolutely no response. I was forced to let Larry know that I would be taking my business elsewhere. Completely unacceptable customer service and I would be embarrassed if I ran my business that way. I understand that some jobs may take longer than anticipated, but have no understanding how after standing a customer up, the company owner doesn't go out of his way to rectify the situation. He certainly is not reliable and I will not be doing any business with him now or in the future. read more

I recently had them install an over-the-range microwave for me that was a little trickier than normal since we have a tile backsplash that is behind the microwave. Larry did an excellent job installing, was very reasonably priced and was very prompt when replying to questions before he did the job. read more
