Hotel stay Well they…read moresay looks can be deceiving and this would be the example. Nice grounds since it is a golf course and golf centric hotel. Reception area is small but nice , staff are friendly. Parking is reasonable though a bit hap hazard. First room was ok but either had just been painted with a voc paint which stank so they moved us to another room.. a walk along the many corridors and fire doors which is reminiscent of a government office building almost hospital like. Cheap painted walls and doors using the bargain colours. Small double room is two singles beds pushed together I'd call it more of a motel room than a hotel. The views in both rooms were disapoointing; one was into the next room. The other into a small courtyard, but no views which is a shame for a place on nice grounds They have WiFi but it doesn't connect on any of our devices. Ceiling in the room is those cheap office removable square tiles for lowered celings. One plastic bottled water and tea in room Very dimly lit room, which is good since the walls are dirty perhaps they're painting here next. Bar and restaurant all look nice The search continues for a northern hotel with good WiFi !

Set in beautiful surroundings, Shaw hill is an excellent choice for a special occasion…read more We have dined there on several occasions and have found both the service and the food superb. The level of service you recieve is second to none and all the waiters and waitresses cannot do enough for you. There is a fully equipped gym and leisure facilities there, as well as a superb golf course. There are several rooms available for private functions. The hotel facilities are of a good standard with a variety of price ranges. The parking is private and spaces are reserved for Golfing captain. Well worth a visit if it is a special occasion or just to treat yourself.

I would've never of know about this place if it wasn't for my parents oving next door to here. It…read moreis a very grand building set in lovely grounds. We visited on a Sunday for lunch. On arrival the bar area felt a little unwelcoming but once we all got together this wasn't really an issue. We were seated in our own private dining room with a gigantic table in the middle...you could probably fit about 25 people around it! The food was excellent, especially for what the price is. £21 for a 3 course meal is great value in my opinion. The Caesar sald starter was very tasty with just the right amount of sauce unlike some i've had where they drecnh it in the stuff... The main course I had was spicy chicken served with cous cous which was excellent. A side of peppers and onions finished the dish of brilliantly. The pudding was the highlight for me though. My favourite - sticky toffee pudding served with ice cream. It was lovely and mosit with little pieces of toffee. very tasty. Overall a pleasant meal and would definately return for sunday lunch.

This was my first time inside I have walked through the grounds as my partners parents live next…read moredoor. The place it's self was lovely and the grounds are really well kept, as it was a nice day when we went you could see all the rabbits running round the fields. We sat in the bar area and had a drink while we ordered are food. It was really nice and relaxed the only down side was the sofas were a bit to low and a bit uncomfortable but nothing too big of an issue if I went again woukd just sit in another chair. We then got taken to are table, they let us have a private dining area which was really nice and it had lovely patio door leading out on to the fields. The food was lovely I had a mozzarella and tomato buchetta it was done very differently they served it warm and the cheese was all melted but it was really nice. For main I had a spicy chicken with couscous and a stack of roasted peppers it was lovely everything complemented each other and was really tasty tge chicken was nice and moist everything was presented really well. For dessert I had Eaton mess and that was nice I have had better the chunks if meringue was really big but apart from that couldn't complain would of rather had the chocolate tart as they looked amazing. Overall the place was really nice the food was excellent and the staff were on the ball. I woukd definatly return
