We stayed at this hotel as part of a murder mystery night package which included a three course meal, hotel room, entertainment and breakfast, for a price of about £100 for two.
The location of the hotel is great for business guests, with good access to the financial quarter and city centre via the Hagley Road and there is plenty of free parking, both outdoor and covered.
The standard rooms are on the small side, due to the circular nature of the building, similar to the rotunda, the rooms taper in at the centre. For the price we paid this isn't an issue, but based on the standard rate of about £70 in the week they could be considered a little boxy, though come with everything you need (no having to go down to reception to borrow a hair dryer or ironing board!).
The 'superior' rooms are much much bigger and definitely recommended if you are staying for more that a single night.
The food included in the deal was unfortunately pretty rubbish. A starter of passable tomato soup, main of chicken breast with potatoes veg and some gravy and a pretty tasty lemon tart to finish (seriously though can you go wrong with lemon tart?). I can't say whether or not this is representative of food typically served in the evenings, but the quality wasnt great, think bad wedding food?
The breakfast on the other hand was excellent. Choice of full English or continental (or both if your that hungry...) included in the room price, and the quality seemed to be much better that the food we were served the night before.
The bar wasn't anything special, and unfortunately ran out of the only bottled ale upon my purchasing of the last bottle (i.e. my first drink). The bar also closes relatively early for a hotel bar, and there is no ability for the night porter to access it.
The staff were a mixed bunch, some were rather rude whilst others were very helpful. I don't think there is a place for rude service in the hotel industry and this was dissapointing.
Overall I would however stay at the Strathallan again if the scenario presented itself and the price was right. With a bit of staff training I think they could have a great hotel on their hands. read more
