I was passing thru looking for an Asian market and found this hole in the wall place. I was disappointed with the Asian market but finding this place saves the day! Staffs were helpful. I surly didn't know what to order but I did know I wanted Halo halo. My chicken with rice was good but the main star is the Halo Halo, it was by far the best I had. They serve breakfast all day and hot food that you can just point at what looks good to you. Hope I have a chance to have more the Halo halo before I leave AZ. This place is becoming a once a week lunch date for me and my hubby. We're Filipino, so we crave the lechon, chicharon bulaklak and crispy pata. We don't eat that every week tho! Lol If we did I don't think I'd be alive posting this review. But For living in the west valley, this place is great for authentic Filipino food. The menu rotates every day, but there is always lechon Kawali, (fried pork) and whole lechon on weekends only I believe. They also always have Pancit noodles. My ultimate fav is lechon paksiw. The gentleman came to our table and made some jokes like I thought that was for me, we all thought this was very endearing. I don't know or can't try to understand why our three silog orders would take at least a half hour. Granted they had to be made from scratch since they were not part of the ready-to-eat foods from the "point-point" cafeteria-style selections. Next time we'll try the lunch items, plus the refrigerated pastries such as the ube ensaymada; the hopia, and the rice and/or cassava suman. By the way, Halo-Halo isn't hard to find in a strip mall on Dunlap Avenue off 35th Avenue. You should see a Blue Pacific buffet place in one corner, an 88 International Market next door, as well as a Unite Beauty Supply to the right of Halo-Halo. Ordered the Small Bilao and was not disappointed! I thought there was plenty of food. I would say though that if you're sharing this meal with Filipinos, you need more rice (I was the only Filipino in my group, 4 others were Caucasian). I've been here a couple of times - once over a year ago and once recently. I honestly don't remember the first time so this review is specifically my recent experience at Halo-Halo. I got the Jeprox (fried dried fish) breakfast for $8 on a Saturday morning. They actually didn't have this out on the menu, but I asked and they were awesome enough to make it for me since it wasn't busy when I stopped by. For $8, I felt that the serving could've been larger, but the food itself was still delicious for Filipino food standards in Phoenix. I also got some treats: the ube halaya and sans rival (sylvana). The ube was good but the sans rival, for a price of $2.50 per piece, was extremely overpriced and honestly not worth it. I'm going to start off by stating that I've only had Filipino food a couple of times before so I'm not the best critic, however, based on everything that we got, I'm going to rate Halo-Halo Kitchen 3 stars. When we walked into the restaurant, we got into line to order food cafeteria-style. They had one, two, and three item plate options, each served with two scoops of rice, as well as a few options that were made-to-order. I recognized a couple of the made-to-order items (lumpia & pancit) but didn't really know what the other items they had were. Because they were super busy, I made a quick decision of ordering the Adobo Chicken. Per recommendation of the gentleman who was making our plates, my fiancé got the Boneless Bangus. The Adobo Chicken had a lot of different spices & broth that could be eaten with the rice. I didn't like how fatty the pieces of chicken were but the flavors in the dish were unique. This one item plate was $5. I only had one bite of the Bangus but it was crispy & it too was seasoned with unique spices. I'd probably recommend that over the Adobo Chicken. This fish counted as a two item plate for $7, and came with a side of soup broth as well as rice. As I mentioned at the beginning, I've not had much Filipino food, but I found everything we got very vinegar-y. As a result of that, I didn't finish my plate of food, but while eating I saw someone else adding vinegar to their food so maybe it's suppose to be that way. I thought it would be a good idea to get some Halo-Halo Special to round out the meal. They definitely served up an interesting & tasty version treat ... I'd get it again! Just because of how far this restaurant is, I probably wouldn't drive out of my way. If in the area, I'd think about stopping by to try other items since the food is inexpensive. read more

I suggested to my boyfriend to take me to this restaurant because of the good reviews and the pictures of the food and halo halo looked amazing. So we get there about an hour before they closed on Saturday. No one was there except for us. It was set up like a Chinese fast food place where you go up and tell them what you want and they scoop it up for you. We ordered the 3 item meal which was $14. It came with rice and we ordered lechon kawali (roasted pig), paka [something, I forget the name] (pork stew) and pork adobo. The roasted pig was dry - it's probably because we came close to closing and the food was sitting under heat lamps all day. The pork stew was made from the pork hock - this was greasy and full of bone. The lady scooping this out for us scooped a lot of bone into our bowl. I wouldn't gripe if the bone was attached to meat.... this was straight bone that's fallen off the bone. The pork adobo was not bad but it was also greasy. If you're on a diet - you won't want to get most of their items. We also ordered the halo halo especial - it wasn't that special. It was basic and boring in flavor. My boyfriend liked it but I didn't care for it. This place was not particularly close to our home so we will more than likely not be coming back. read more

Anyway everything on the line looked terrible my husbands dish he liked which was tocilog. The kare kare was strangely darker than normal, the dinuguan was oily, meat was mostly fat, not thick but there's some that make it that way, the lechon kawali was just bad, skin and meat was tough. Over all food was not good. I ordered banana glaze, well skip this too. I had one hard banana not cut, boba balls super soggy, they just gave me sugar syrup? Halo - Halo kitchen is one of my favorites when I'm craving Asian food. I have been meaning to take a friend with me being that she loves noodles, pancit to be precise. This past week I was able to bring her here to lunch and she enjoyed it! We both had the adobo and pancit and I ordered menudo for us to share. The menudo here is definitely different from Spanish menudo. My Asian cravings and adobo fix were complete! I would much rather come to Halo Halo versus Panda Express. The only down side is that it's slightly more pricier, but you get what you pay for. There is also a dessert bar where they make boba drinks and have Thrifty ice cream - my favorite!!! I was not disappointed! The halo-halo had a lot of toppings and it was very good! So is the sagot gulaman! It was a little sweet but that's how I like it because I just add more ice and water. The food is mediocre. I wish they had more food that is harder to cook at home. I can easily make mechado and adobo at home. I was really craving lechon paksiw but they didn't have any. I think the food is a little pricey but for being the only Filipino restaurant in the area, I'm not complaining. They have some chips and snacks also but it's expensive. Overall, this place is good for my sweet cravings but the food is not worth drive! Update: I've tried their Turon, biko, Pichi-Pichi, and ube halaya. They were very good! Wow...what happened?! This used to be a favorite of ours. It's on the wrong side of town, so we couldn't come here as much as we would have liked. But it was the best Filipino food in town (except for our house, of course). But this visit the food was woefully underwhelming. A poor showing on their part, especially given that we know how good they used to be. The fresh lumpia was mediocre (at best). Not prepared properly. Even my wife thought so, and she loves fresh lumpia. The Bicol express was mediocre. The menudo was mediocre. The kare kare was OK, not great but OK. The best thing was a beef and mushrooms dish. I only give this 3 stars for now. We ordered Danggit-silog on July 11, 2023 and the danggit was very very salty. It was our first time to order this combination and we just wasted it! The danggit was crispy but because it was so salty, my wife and I decided to toss it in the garbage. I don't recommend this combination. Another thing - we also bought veggies egg roll. I noticed one of my Yelp friends checked in to Halo Halo kitchen so I was motivated to check it out too! The restaurant was pretty easy to find and we walked in - you can either order from the buffet area and pick one, two or three items or order from the pictures on the wall. I was so hungry that I decided to go for the three item: Kare Kare, chicken adobo, and Pancit (2 scoops of rice are included). I also purchased a halo halo special, chicharon, and ube candy. I was so excited!! We sat down and the pancit was good, I also enjoyed the Kare Kare, but the chicken adobo I wasn't a big fan of. The adobo just had different or added ingredients that I'm not used to (which is usually soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaves). Anyway, the halo halo was yummy and it brought me back to my childhood days! A day later- I decided to try the ube candy and needless to say, they were no longer edible. Normally, ube candy has a purple color. This candy had a grey/green color. I took one bite and I knew right away that it was no longer good so I tossed the whole thing. Overall, if you are curious and want to try something new, I encourage the visit! This Filipino Food was very good and I think most people can find something they like here because we tried three different meats and a tofu dish and all were different all were cooked nicely with good developed flavor. Nothing was spicy or aggressively seasoned and nothing tasted Chinese or Thai that I tried to me but everything we tried had a rich developed flavor. Portions are large prices are very low I think our combo plates were about $6.99 each. This place is VERY CASUAL and is set up sort of like Panda Express. You decide on the kind of plate you want just like at Panda and point to what you want on your plate by looking at the food line or you can order from the pictures on the wall. Next you pay and seat yourself and clean up your tray when you leave. I picked a combo plate so I could try two things. I picked Coconut Chicken and Tofu with vegetables. Both my picks looked familiar like Chinese or Thai dishes to me but neither of them had the seasonings I thought they'd be but the food was still tasty and good. The Chicken was very moist and had great developed flavor from being slow cooked on the bone but they didn't brown the skin so I found the skin unappetizing and had to remove it. That is my only criticism. My husband tried the pork adobo and one of the beef dishes. He said both were very tender and tasty and he'd come here again. I am happy they were doing well. Lunch combos were $6 for one entree and $8 for two entrees. The beef Kare Kare was slow cooked delicious. The gravy had nutty notes. The eggplant was slightly al dente to my taste but was still purple and pretty. The green beans were barely blanched. They give you two scoops of rice and a delicious salty relish called bagoong. Now dessert. Halo Halo is $4.50 with vanilla ice cream or $5.50 Special with ube or yam ice cream. Sweet corn, red beans, candied coconut and other tasty surprises await in this shaved ice confection. This place is legit with their Filipino food. Everything we ordered was tasty and flavorful. I tried the lechon kewali which was on point with the crispness of the skin. The pork bbq stick was also good. The wife tried a breakfast platter of garlic rice, tocino, and fried egg, which were all good. Two of the kids tried the spam sliders and fries which were all good. One of the girls went to town on the chicken adobo over rice. Mom in law tried the diniguan, which she said was good. For dessert we tried the halo halo special which was super good. We went up to Phoenix a couple of weeks ago to drop off a Forex box and get some lunch here. We got in about 11 am and got the box taken care of and then looked over all the food on the line. Maybe 20 selections. Amazing. The thing is, Filipino food is pretty simple but very hard to make good. This place is the best though. Started getting pretty crowded by noon. I got the 3-item special which is a lot of food but since we only get up there hardly ever, we got plenty as well as some take home stuff too. Good food, nice people. Check it out. I'm all for their halo-halo -- their turo-turo style entrees not so much. My gf and I ordered the 2 entree combo each (pancit & pork adobo / lechon kawali & beef steak). I didn't really care for the adobo as much and thought the texture and consistency was a bit weird. The beef steak -- we could barely stomach this and it just wasn't the flavor I was expecting at all! It just didn't taste fresh, at all! Do they reheat food they don't sell from the day before? I really don't know and I sure hope not! While certainly inexpensive, I wouldn't expect quality here! The Tita's serving here are also pretty masungit, so be weary of that -- wouldn't mind it if their food was great, but... :/ If you're craving for Porto's, they're selling 12 pieces for $16 -- but since Porto's released their online ordering I would go that route instead and bake it fresh yourself! read more
