"Because 1 in 7 children will experience the death of a parent, sibling or close loved one by the time they are 20, Brooke's Place works to create a community where every young person living with grief feels safe, supported and understood during their personal grief journey." Brooke's Place is built on the following principles: 1) Grief is a natural reaction to the death of a loved one for young people as well as adults 2) Within each individual is the natural capacity to heal oneself 3) The duration and intensity of grief are unique for each individual 4) Caring and acceptance assist in the healing process 5) Our caring programs provide hope, help and healing by giving individuals a safe place to grieve. Brooke's Place was founded by a local therapist as a response to the 1994 crash of American Eagle Flight #4184 in Roselawn, Indiana. One of the individuals killed in the crash was Thomas Wright and this therapist watched as his children, 13-year-old Brooke and Brent, a college senior. It became apparent that a place for children to grieve was needed. In 1998, Brooke's Place was born. I worked in the counseling field right about the time Brooke's Place was founded and had a couple friends who volunteered with their support groups. Eventually, I would go through their support group training myself as I was volunteering for a non-profit that dealt with families who'd lost a baby. The training was simply outstanding. To this day, I have friends who continue to volunteer for Brooke's Place. Programs include the grief support groups, therapy services, education/training, BP8 (an 8-week program offering outreach grief support), and Camp Healing Tree - a camp for youth ages 7-17 who've experienced the death of someone close to them. Brooke's Place continues to grow each year, though certainly it has been impacted by the pandemic. However, they've creatively worked toward continuing their supports and they continue to do remarkable work for the children and youth in Central Indiana.

I have been to Southside Counseling Associates a few times now and can honestly give them five…read morestars. They offer counseling services for many needs and have several independent practitioners here according to the brochure I picked up from the waiting room as well as their website. I have personally been seeing Richard (Rick) Payne and am happy so far. He is easy to talk to and has been quite helpful. I found him through a Catholic psychologist whom I could not see because of my insurance issues. Thankfully, Mr. Payne is able to take patients with insurance through the Healthy Indiana Plan. Prices are also more reasonable than what I have encountered in the past. What makes me most at ease is that he is of the same faith as I am though this is not pastoral care. Another plus in my book is that this is a small building and not a large office complex. There is no receptionist or call center and I can speak with or text my counselor directly. The waiting room is usually serene with none to very few people. The first time I walked in, I was amazed at the cozy and nicely decorated interior. There was calming music on with bird sounds in the background. They also provide a nice selection of magazines and books contrary to what most offices have. It is homey which makes sense since it is a little yellow house with green shutters right on Main Street in the older section of Greenwood that has been converted into a business. It is honestly like no other mental health office I have ever visited before and in a very good way. My only issue is that I wish it were closer to home, but it is quite worth the ride south of the city for excellence. Parking is in the rear, as is the entrance. There aren't a ton of parking spaces so it could become tight if there were several cars here at the same time, but you can park across the street as well if needed. Afternoons seem to be much less busy than evenings as I am sure many people come by after work for their appointments. I am grateful that they do offer evening hours. Again, I am new here, but I am pleased with the care I have received. It far surpasses any services I have had in the past. I only can speak of my counselor in particular on a detailed level, but if you are in need of counseling services, I highly suggest giving them a go. I am sure they would have someone to fit your needs with the variety of expertise that these independent counselors offer.

I have never given a business a negative review but I am very unhappy with the way this place does…read morebusiness. My daughter is depressed after the death of her boyfriend and I made several attempts to call and schedule an appointment. They have no receptionist and never returned my calls, even after I said that if they are not accepting new patients to please let me know. We have insurance, but I also would have been able to pay for each session if that was the problem. For counselors, they don't seem very concerned with someone's mental health.

The therapy service varies with a therapist. I had some very good experiences and the therapy indeed helped to me to gain some mental clarity and establish personal growth. I definitely felt relieved and inspired. However, I did had an awful experience. I was very disappointed with a couple-counseling sessions with one therapist. After the therapy, I was left with such an overwhelming feeling, which only disrupted my personal life. I felt like the therapist was too one-sided, critical and jumped to conclusions. In my opinion, his approach was not very productive and it further divided me and my husband. This could be just my personal experience though. Nonetheless, overall therapy is beneficial. Just please be direct with them right away if you see any issue with a therapist's strategy. Also, be aware that some therapists are on the brink of retirement and they don't let you know until the end of the session. You don't want to leave hanging after pouring your heart out. On top, these sessions are expensive so make sure full use of them.

Easy access with street parking available. The lobby is nice, comfortable and clean to include the restroom. The room we were in was located in the basement. I was comfortable in the room on the couch. The room was pretty big too. My visits were pleasant and painful at the same time. However, it was very beneficial and I was able to see progress which was wonderful. My therapist, Connor was awesome. We were able to work through the EMDR process. This helped a great deal. How is therapy going to help when you have to wait that long in between appointments right? The mental health industry has just been completely inundated since the beginning of the pandemic. I just decided I would wait a while. I also struggled to find a therapist who I felt I could relate to, as a female millennial. It was important to me to feel comfortable enough to discuss my views on what is going on in the world and not have to feel awkward because my therapist is older than my mother and I worry she is judging me for my views, tattoos, and clothes. We most likely are just not going to relate to each other. Anyways, I was being specific for what I wanted in a therapist. Fast forward to April of this year and I decided to try again. I found Hamilton Professional Consulting online and filled out a request form. I explained everything I was looking for and received a call within an hour! I spoke to one of the therapists there and she recommended I see Leslie. I said great! That evening, Leslie emailed me and gave me access to the patient portal. The portal makes it really easy for you. Leslie is quick at responding to requests for a reschedule. Leslie has been amazing! I'm so thankful I found her. If you are looking for a laidback, chill, and easy going therapist who knows her stuff, then you have found that with Leslie. I have full confidence in her abilities and plan to see her every week for a while to work through things.
