I'm all about things that make me happy today ( see JC Public Library reveiw) and Hamilton Park is another venue in Jersey City, another FREE venue in Jersey City that I love. I like to see the kids playing bball next to me while I play tennis. I like to see flowers, trees and kids, grandparents, adults, and anyone and everyone enjoying open space. I'll give you all the mom review. The LSC closed early so I needed somewhere close by where the kids could burn off the rest of their energy. Found this park was less than 2 miles away so hopped in the car and headed over. First off the parking was ample! Plenty of street parking just read the signs. The playground is tremendous and gated. There is a small gated area just for the little ones and the rest of the playground was also gated and great! The kids loved all of the equipment and there were so many different things to keep them busy. Bridges, climbing structures, a thing to spin on! If you have ever been to Dorbrook Park I would say the play area was quite comparable. When we needed a break there was a vendor selling ices for $1 a cup...perfect size!!! There is also a small splash pad, that is also gated off, separate from the play areas. Even if you don't bring the kids this park was great. There was a dog area, basketball courts, and just plenty of open green space to run. Definitely a hidden gem in JC. The food truck parked in front was also very reasonable for hotdogs and soda. read more

When my daughter moved to the Hamilton Park (HP) neighborhood, I read that the area was very desirable due in part to the park itself. As I explored her neighborhood and came to HP, I could see why this was said. It gives a nice feel to the neighborhood. I saw a LOT of kids with their caregivers having a great time on the ample playground equipment. At night, I observed lighted tennis and basketball courts as we walked right next door to Rumba Cubana restaurant. The park is well-lit, and I felt totally safe. On a Saturday, I observed vendors selling various items and also an active dog park, which is great for all the poor apartment dwelling doggies in the 'hood, I'm sure. There are plenty of trees, all beginning to turn their fall colors. All in all, HP is a gem in the gritty urban setting of Jersey City. I hope to visit again on future visits to my daughter. read more

Wonderful park that is kept-up really well. Friendly, safe, and has a wholesome community vibe. Love the basketball court that turns into a Farmers Market once a week + the Tennis court. This Park is awful. Too many children and their nannies. The children are horrible: loud, running around, no respect for other kids, fighting, yelling, screening. Playing with each other. Stealing other kids' toys. Complete mayhem. The nannies are nicer. Many of them do what they can and deal with the kids and the parents. Most of them are glued to their digital equipment, or speak to other nannies, or actively ignoring the kids. On average, the parents are horrible, and are more concerned about their Louis Vuitton bags and their Gucci slides than their kids. Some well intentioned parents actively engage with their own kids. But most parents go out of the way to complain about other people's kids and take pictures of other kids misbehaving. Sadly, there are people of lesser financial wherewithal at the park, but thankfully due to gentrification and the million dollar studios abutting the neighborhood, they can be identified easily. If you can do it avoid this park. read more

Recent renovations to Hamilton Park left us speechless. This park is just awesome. Its like an open-air community center, with tennis courts, multiple play areas, two dog runs (bigger than their counterparts in Van Vorst Park), a huge gazebo, and plenty of space to stretch out. My dog likes this park because the huge, old trees house the largest number of squirrels in town! Love all the kids/ families and the diversity at this part. Very clean and well maintained.

It's a nice park. I probably liked it more before the remodel. When there were more things to skateboard. At the town meeting regarding the redesign they mentioned a ton of ways to deter skaters from skating here. It is what it is...bias aside, it's a nice park. Decent size. Especially if you have a dog. Hamilton Park is a nice community park. There's a pagoda in the middle and benches where you can sit and take in views and people watch. Flowers bring color to the park in the spring and summer. Also, Hamilton is super dog friendly. Many locals walk their pouches here or congregate at the dog run. There is a basketball and a tennis courts, and a playground for the kiddies. read more

The group of children that comes at 1pm every weekday (I believe from the Cordero School) is dangerous, unruly, and completely out of control. The school and chaperones should be ashamed of themselves. I have learned to time my visits to avoid this group. Absolutely outrageous. Tried to complain to the city to see if there's anything that could be done (I know I'm such a monster) -- unfortunately, not surprisingly, there is nothing that can be done. If anyone else feels the same way about this group of children and their dangerous behavior to others coming to this playground, please comment here. Maybe someone from the school will read it and do something about it. List of problem from this group: -Aggressive children -This group brought to the playground are too large and therefore incredibly loud, wild and impossible to control -dangerous play (because the group is too large and the chaperones are too few) -chaperones huddle in the corner and talk amongst themselves while the children go unsupervised - multiple injuries already reported as a result of this group on social media sites like Next Door and SeeClickFix read more

Just had my engagement photos here! And it was definitely an experience. It was very cold yesterDay but we had a lot of fun and improvised at a coffee shop near by btw its a nice lil shop. Nice area and verh diverstified. I haven't been in jersey city in awhile. It was very nice and small but grounds were very clean , people even were smiling and seen us look like a fool without coats on for our photos but we took them like champs!!!!! This is the best park in Jersey City Downtown. It's clean and has something for everyone: two dog parks; tennis courts, basketball courts, three playgrounds (including a water playground/park for little people); picnic tables, plenty of grass areas, and a pagoda. The park also hosts a variety of fun events such as farmer's markets, yard sales, dog runs, outdoor movies, holiday events and more. What a lovely park. Clean, superb for children and filled with festivals, events , farmers market, diversity, culture and charm. There's a dog park and you'll always see lovely and unique breeds here. Conveniently located next to the Holland Tunnel kinda. Good food all around this area. Great atmosphere. Calm , cool sensation. I lived in Hamilton Park pre-renovation and it used to be scary and sadly neglected, but my how times have changed. I visit the park primarily for my pups sake. There are 2 dog runs (one for smaller breeds and one for larger). It's well maintained and pleasant (unlike VV Park, yuck). I had the day off on Friday and took the girl there twice. The park also boasts 2 new tennis courts that people actually use, a sweet looking basketball court and a fun looking playground, complete with water features in the summer. When it's warm out, I always buy a coconut ice from the nice lady with the cart. read more

This is a great park, it might not be huge but it's was well done. They have tennis and basketball courts, children play area, two dog parks (one for small and the other for large). There are at least 2 wrong reviews of this place. This Hamilton Park is in *JERSEY CITY*. There are no amazing views of Manhattan from here -- that Hamilton Park is in Weehawken. That being said, this is still a pretty cool park and I'd much rather go to this Hamilton Park than the one in Weehawken. I guess views are nice but this Hamilton Park is much more functional with a really nice playground for kids from infant age to about 8, basketball courts, and more. It's an extremely relaxing, pleasant place to hang out, surrounded by beautiful brownstones and tree-lined streets. read more

I felt like I hit the jackpot when I moved into the neighborhood and realized this is my local park. It is very clean and always safe no matter what the time of day. In the summer they have a basketball league for local teens that is very organized and friendly staff. (Wish I wasn't too old to play in it!) Other quick highlights -great dog runs, they have separate ones for big size dogs and small size dogs -a couple great festivals year round (BBQ fest in the early fall) -Shakespeare in the park during the summer -farmers markets every Wednesday (seasonal) -water park for kids (seasonal) read more

Very nice park with something for everyone. Nature, scenery, tennis courts, playground, usually an ice cream truck. We come for the dog park, which is amazing. It's much larger than Van Vorst, is separated into a small and large dog area. The small dog park is a great size. Dogs and owners are always really friendly. The dog park is busiest around 5-7, I've come before in the early afternoons and have been the only one there. My favorite dog park in Jersey City. Plus, the park is right next to Doco Market and restaurants where you can get some lunch or dinner, and also Sophie Sophia for delicious cupcakes or coffee after. Thumbs up from me. It's very well-maintained throughout the year. There are countless great restaurants nearby, including GPs, Hamilton Inn, Milk Sugar Love, etc. A wonderful spark of life in a classic tree-lined neighborhood filled with brownstones. The Hamilton Park area is safe and family-friendly area in Historic Downtown Jersey City. The park is surrounded by beautiful 19th century brownstones that add a special feel to the charm of the neighborhood. I moved into the neighborhood from the city 3 years ago and my only regret is not coming sooner. The park was renovated in 2010 and today is a hub for young couples and families. The brand new park now boasts 2 tennis courts, a dog run (with very friendly owners and dogs alike), a jungle gym, basketball courts with floodlights that are on until 10/11pm during the summers, and plentiful lawn space for picnics or just laying out under a tree and reading on a nice spring day. The park is also home to many different events throughout the year, such as an annual Parkfest (with flea market vendors, great food and wine, musical entertainment, raffles, and a JCPD vs JCFD basketball game at noon), summertime farmers markets, basketball tournaments, etc. The area is home to many boutique shops and restaurants. Madame Claude Wine (located on the West side of the park) is my favorite wine store in Jersey City. I also enjoy the thin crust pizza at Carmine's 2 blocks away. read more

Ham Park is great. It was a real dump before they renovated it a few years back. Now it's fantastic. They have 2 great tennis courts. That being said, I'm super bitter that the PRIVATE Montessori School gets to reserve one of the courts for SEVERAL hours EVERY day during prime tennis season. Not sure how that makes sense for a public park (Dear Mayor Fulop - get your game up). Anyway, there is also a great basketball court, and 2 great playgrounds for kids - 1 regular & 1 water. The tennis and hoops courts are lighted until fairly late at night too. Definitely a great city park!!!!! read more

I wish I still had a dog. I'd have a legitimate excuse to walk through the park every day. Sometimes I park my car on the opposite side of the park just for the stroll (and parking's a bitch). As apartments and condos begin to pop up all over the Hamilton Park area, the addition of newly renovated Hamilton Park was a no brainer. This park has basketball courts, big green spaces, a mini water park in the summer for the kids, and of course plenty of areas for the dogs to play. I would say that this is a happy park, just wished that it had some trees on the edges to give the park a little more exclusivity. read more

Jersey City needs to do a better job in managing the up-keep of this park. It would be a beautiful space if the city kept the lawn mowed, and put money into a few landscaping essentials during the summer months. With new buildings going up everywhere (the foot traffic in this park increases by the year) -- that needs to be put into perspective by the city/mayors office !!! read more

What a fantastic park to live next to. The basketball court is in fantastic condition, firm but will break most falls. Play equipment looks fun for the kiddies. Lawn space used for multiple different uses. Looking forward to getting out on the tennis courts. Special events are fun and the rotunda is great. Hamilton Park was newly renovated and opened up in time for Memorial Day, 2010. The park is truly an urban oasis, with new plantings, two dog runs (the source of a lot of controversy in this dog lovers' neighborhood), new light fixtures, a new water fountain, an upgraded kiddie play area, an upgraded basketball court, benches (they look uncomfortable, because they're slotted metal, and blistering in hot weather, not that I sat on them!) and a beautiful paved walkway. The crown jewel of the park - the gazebo - has been given a fresh coat of paint, and has never looked better. An added bonus was the return of the annual Hamilton Park Festival in June, and the Farmer's Market. I am curious to see how this gem of a park is going to look come Christmas-time. It would be nice to see fairy lights strung throughout the trees (doubtful, due to the city's budget). All in all, it's a wonderful place to be, and I'm proud to live in the neighborhood. read more

This is a gorgeous little park situated in one of the nicer parts of Jersey City. Upon moving out of JC, I find that this park is what I miss the most. My toddler and I spent most of last summer here; it was our favorite spot. It has lots of trees, ample space, green lawns, and two dog runs. The surrounding streets are lined with brownstone houses adding to the aesthetic appeal of this park. There is a pediatrician and an adorable ice cream shop right across the street. I never had trouble finding parking nearby. I have always found the park to be very clean as well. And during the summer there's a farmers market once a week. read more

Going to this park just makes me happy. The park is very well maintained and feels like an oasis amongst the residential neighborhood. I really like just walking around the side streets bordering the Park and looking at the brownstones around it. It is not super close to public transportation, by which I mean the PATH, but if you're in the area it is definitely worth stopping by. I've lived right across the street from Hamilton park for over a year now. The whole area is very nice. Lots of good restaurants and shops within walking distance. The park itself is very pretty and kept clean. It has a lot of great amenities, such as tennis courts, basketball court, playground, splash pads, farmers market, pet free lawn zones an adorable water fountain and 2 dog runs. I take my dog to the dog run daily. The only downside to the dog runs is that they get very muddy and flooded when it rains (usually the large breed run gets the most flooded). Also, the doggie water fountains have been turned off so you must bring your own bowl and fill it from the people fountain. I guess this is to prevent the spread of kennel cough. Doesn't make much sense because people end up having their dogs share bowls of water anyway. Regardless, the dog runs are still great and so is the park as a whole. The only other downside of the park is that in over a year I've never once been able to use the tennis courts...there is always a long wait. Not a big deal to me but just FYI for those hoping to use the courts. read more
