So many reasons to hate the gym, yet I absolutely love going. This recently converted Virgin Active…read moregym was once Esporta, so it has always been a private member's gym, just picked up in price a bit once Virgin bought it. The facilities in here are fantastic. Huge changing rooms with televisions and decent sized lockers, a huge pool that's very rarely busy, an even bigger gym that is fully equipped with anything you could want to use to build muscle or lose weight, and a fantastic restaurant/cafe that has a fully stocked bar and a full menu (mostly of healthy foods!). There's also a shop that sells spa/beauty products, as well as large indoor & outdoor tennis courts. The membership is a bit steep, but it's worth it if you're gonna be using it a lot of the time.

The staff here are honesty second to none! They are always on hand to lend you help or advice into what you should be doing to work towards your aims. This is obviously a private gym with a hefty membership price for myself at £45 per month (This is the 18 to 25 plan) this comes with unlimited use of the pool and gym. All I need to be honest. I think at this price it keeps away the idiots who go in and flex there muscles till there bulging out of there arms and stare at you because your big or small. The members here are all there for the same reason, to get fit therefore I dont feel intimidated at all when I look at other guys my age who have bodies which should be in the weekly edition of Mens Health magazine. With a glorious pool, which is NEVER busy. Busiest I've seen has been 10 people in the pool. On a weekday at lunch time you can almost be guaranteed to get the pool to yourself. Steam room and sauna are also very popular with all members, the sauna is much more frequently visited by hairy men and the steam room more visited by the Hamilton football club! Only thing, the changing rooms are all communal. This dosent bother me, but it may bother others. The cafè which looks onto the pool is incredibly reasonably priced and tastes good! Steak for £5.80...WHIT!? Tastes amazing though! And the strawberry split smoothie is to die for! I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get fit or tone up or what ever :) Great fun!

After this wild workout everyone got a little paper bag full of tuck shops sweets, it was great! After the ice-skating my dad usually took us to the swimming pool, the river rapids were my favourite part and I could swim here for hours. I particularly remember the scary red dragon statue and the cave men who looked down on your when you were swimming round the pool, one of them was wielding a spear which I have to admit, was a little bit scary. They also have a huge play area with ball pools, slides, climbing walls - it just looks amazing. Unfortunately, my parents never let me go here and I feel that I've missed out. At the moment the play area pool is closed for major refurbishment, who knows what it will look like when it's finished? I think I might take a trip back soon for good old times sakes. A fantastic day out for all the family!

It's hard to imagine Motherwell without it…read more It used to be a swimming pool/ice rink combo with many a Sunday afternoon spent here skating when I was younger. The ice rink has since been done away with and replaced with a really good gym, probably the biggest and best in North Lanarkshire. The swimming pool is a fun pool, barely a metre deep and only good for splishy splashy times, not a proper swim. They have a good health suite with a sauna and steam room where, despite the signs about NOT shaving, there are always hairy old men shaving. The pool is rarely busy aside from summer time when kids under 16 can swim free when it is bedlam. The gym, as I said, is ace. There is at least two of everything so you are guaranteed to get a shot of whatever it is you are wanting to use, with some really modern equipment. The 'gym music' can be really loud which drowns out my own work out playlists much to my annoyance, but other than that, there isn't much to fault the place. A busy place.

I was a member here for a while, so let me explain, for a student it is only £15 a month and you can with that use any of the North Lanarkshire gyms. When you join you are given an induction with a personal trainer, who writes you a workout card to your specific needs and goals. You can use the gym at any time with a membership and get a place on any of the classes, spin, body pump, you name it, its free. You will need to book the week before though becasue they get filled up quite quick. If you do not want to to join as a member I think the original induction is around £8, and the n subsequent visits are maybe £3 something. So after a few visits you are better just becoming a member.

A substantial amount of thermal/water amenities, all of which feel very sanitary/maintained. I wish I was able to schedule a massage - however, it is completely understandable I couldn't squeeze in an appointment the day of. I felt completely relaxed after my appointment! My only note is that the aroma mist in the salt room did not seem to work (this may have been user error). Additionally one of the showers in the locker room was not in service. Mind you they can be quite pricey, but this has all got to do with the image their trying to project, as well as the various treatments they offer. As usual I haven't heard of most of them, but was particularly curious about the rainforest shower. Thankfully, I have a friend who has actually been to the Amazon (they come in REALLY handy!) and basically it's a room with showerheads all over the ceiling, so it seems as though it's raining in the room. Ofcourse if you'd rather just have a facial and a massage, they do that as well. They've got two pools, one of which is thermal, and a gym for those who'd rather "feel the burn" than relax, though I'd rather get in the sauna when there's that alternative.

If you're a fitness buff then you will love the gym, not so many people standing about adoring themselves as people actually training, so better than most. The toddler's swimming pool is the best I've seen with a tiny little double sided slide in it and lots of other watery attractions to keep little ones amused. For big kids like myself there is the body flume which goes outdoors and believe me you will know when you're going through the outdoors bit because your nipples will tell you! If that's not hardcore enough for you then you can always swim through to the outdoor pool which is heated but you won't be able to tell because it is still bloody freezing! We're Scottish though, we're hard and we can handle it! The gym has loads of great equipment which you would usually have to go to a private gym to find such as power plates, a climbing machine (which you can set to famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower which gives you a work out equivalent to climbing your chosen landmark!) and a ab solo machine which is a lot like those basketball games you get in arcades. If you're hungry after all that skating, swimming and working out then you can go and buy a delicious greasy sausage roll from the Waterfronts very own branch of Aulds! Random, but loving it

It has awesome rings and trapeze over the pool that is as entertaining for adults as it is for kids. They have a slightly cooler pool that is filtered with charcoal filters and UV so that they don't need to use harsh chemicals, so an all round nicer experience than your regular pool and possibly better for those with sensitive skin.
