Hamleys has had some renovations but i'm sorry to say it's not the paradise i used to know.I DO remember having spent hours and pounds in it but ,now,I just spend about 15 to 20 mn in it and leave purchaseless!!!It's surely a dream for kids(7 levels of toys!!!)but the choice is not what it used to be!!They don't have big lines like BRATZ,MOXIE GIRLZ,the PETSHOP departement has been reduced to clearly nothing,they no more sell BARBIE COLLECTOR DOLLS,in the action figure departement,you can find up to 10 pegs of the SAME figure,etc AND PRICES ARE JUST TOO HIGH!!!!!!!!!!!£5 more on a basic barbie doll!!!!!Their action figures are £3 more expensive than at toys r us or forbidden planet!!! So a must for the kids but if you want to buy,you'd better go to old kent road toys r us(453 bus stop is just in front of Hamleys/25 mn ride),forbidden planet(shattesfury avenue/10mn walk),Disneystore(10mn walk on Oxford street)or even go to the Harrods toy departement(less expensive and so beautiful to see!!) Hamleys has saved me from present disasters on numerous occasions! Not only is it brimming with ideas for children aged 0 - 12 but it is a great place to take them as well, although I would not recommend it during the Christmas period as last year I queued for 45 minutes to get on the escalator to the first floor. Employees are constantly on hand to assist you and demonstrate many of the toys so you can really see what you are buying. The store is very clearly marked out with cuddly toys on the ground floor (from £5 hamleys bears to a £3500 giraffe which is as tall as the ceiling), outdoor ideas, boys, girls and so on as you climb further up. With a cafe upstairs, an ice-cream store on the ground floor and a sweet shop children are guaranteed to enjoy the experience. Other interesting features include a photo shop and a stand of limited edition items from various films. Based in Regent Street it is very easy to access and free to enter, however do not expect to leave the store empty-handed! read more

I really look forward to comin here with the children!...or without :o) The toy shop is divided up on different levels which is handy. There are games and video games, a MASSIVE selection of cuddly toys and puppets, gadgets, girls toys, boys toys, toddlers toys, big Thomas the tank engine section, action figures, train sets, jigsaw puzzlesand tons more! The people who work there are friendly and quite often they demonstrate certain toys which is fun to watch. When we went there was a Madame Tussauds model of David Beckham, a huge Robosapian model and a full size Hot Wheels car which you kids can get in. There is so much to see like that and the Stairs were decorated in a Narnia Theme.which was brilliant! There is also an amazing sweet shop selling, traditional lollys of varying flavours and allsorts of sweets and fudgeMMMMMMfudge! Next to that is a stall where you can get photo gifts made. This is the iconic toy store in the UK. If you're visiting London with the kids it is a place you have to visit, but make sure you leave lots of time, as there's lots to see, and you'll be there for at least an hour. There are loads of demonstrations going on on each floor, usually of new, innovate toys, that don't look exciting in a box, but are often fascinating to watch or play with. There's stuff for boys and girls (as you'd expect), but you'll get drawn in too, as there are more unusual toys there, which you'll just want to play with. The only down side is that it's busy, and in the 4-6 week run-up to Christmas it is totally mobbed, which means you can't really explore properly. The other problem is that if you know what you want, you can have a hard time finding it. But just ask the staff, as they're all pretty knowledgeable - though it can still be a bit of a walk around Britain's best toy store. read more

I was quite surprised at how small Hamelys is as I thought it would be much bigger. That said, it's a lovely toy shop and you could well spend a great deal of time and money there. The last time I visited the ground floor was teddies, yes, a whole floor of teddies !! My daughter was in heaven. Then they have floors for the different sexes too. It may seem a tad sexist but it's actually really useful as it'd a whole floor devoted to stereotypical boys or girls toys. They have lifts since it's several stories high and can get VERY packed !! It's not the cheapest toy store in the world, but half of the fun is the thought of shopping at the famous Hamleys and having such a selection to choose from. "HAMLEYS!" is the highest pitched name in the history of children's stores. I'm sure of it. I hear that high pitched name squealed every other day (working near by enough to need to walk by often). We all know children are small hysterical adults, but this is a phenomenon unto itself. Such was the average reaction that when I first moved to London I dodged the pirates and snow white with bubbles blower at the door and wondered in. Ever after I have visited this store when I need a bit of cheering (note- never come here with a headache!) or feel the need to remember what an assault of bright colours is like. Side note- I made friends with an ex-Hamley's magician and it is also pretty magical to be on the otherside of the counter apparently. read more

Some stores acquire an almost cult status that means you just have to visit them, even if there are alternatives available; Harrods and Harvey Nichols are two such stores, and so too is Hamleys. In the field of toys, Hamleys is the place you have to go to! It can be very, very busy, but it is always kind of fun for kids and big kids alike. There is a very pleasant cafe where you can unwind and have a scone and coffee before checking out what is in store again. They usually have a great selection of Disney products available as well as other toys of the moment. I think Hamleys is one of those places most people would love to visit if they were in London. It is the most iconic toy store in the country. I have to say I was a little disappointed with it though. Admittedly we made the mistake of going in as the Christmas hype was building feverpitch but it felt rather small and cramped and there was no space to move. Much of the toys are what you could buy from any high street store but the fact that you were buying it from Hamleys seemed to up the prices somewhat. It is somewhere I always wanted to go and I have been but not sure I would go back unless we went first thing in the morning before the crush started. Hamleys really is the ultimate kids toy shop! It's really big and full of all different types of toys from stuffed toys to gadgets! They also have a sweet section with HUGE lollipops. Basically heaven for little kids!! Not sure how much like heaven it is for adults though! It is rather pricey! It's a nice shop to be in though, very well laid out with a friendly atmosphere. This toy shop is a brilliant place to start off your Christmas shopping for the kids, and is also a great place to source birthday presents throughout the year. Overall, I'd say its not the cheapest place to go shopping but if you prefer good quality toys and a good shopping experience, it's worth it! read more

I remember going here was such a treat as a child, and it hasn't lost its fantasy charm as I've grown older. The building itself just to look at from the outside is so typically and delightfully old English. Each floor is totally unique with different selections of toys and gadgets and games. Unlike many toystores today there are always tester products out everywhere. Keep watching out or you will get hit! The traditional guarding bears that have become so famous are still stood by the door. Love Hamleys. We actually went to kill a couple of hours before a dinner reservation (we are 26, so we didnt go to buy toys)! We ended up in the fancy dress department trying on all manner of crazy hats and masks - Ive not laughed as hard as that in ages. You can see the store is well stocked and there are staff demonstrating toys all over - there is a real 'fun' sense about the place. It's not as big as you would think it is and it gets absolutely packed in there, but it's well worth a look and the kids Im sure will have a great time (although you may be pester-powered into parting with some cash before the visit is out)! read more

One of London's most famous toy stores is well worth a visit. The store is split over 4 floors, the bottom floor selling soft toys, the second, third and fourth selling games, dolls, pre school toys and boys toys. I went last Sunday and it was absolute mayhem but well worth a visit. My daughter loved running round and playing with all the toys. Staff are friendly and used to children running round and actually encourage them to get things out and play. Hamleys have they're own range of toys and also stock brands such as Hello kitty, VTech, Peppa Pig and Postman Pat which can be sometimes hard to get hold of. read more

I thought as a 21 year old adult i would not be interested in this in the slightest, how wrong could i be!! My boyfriend and i could have spent hours in here but we were only in london for the weekend and had lots to do, so only stayed an hour instead! I think there are five floors of pure fun, and you can even see all the adults getting excited about being there. There are interaction zones where you can try out all the toys and they also stock many toys i remember from my childhood. I imagine if you had a child you could spend a fortune in here! Hamley's is a children's heaven. Even as an adult walking into the places I am still amazed by how big it is and how many toys there are. Mum and Dad be prepared! If you take your kids in here they will not want to leave. Every kind of toy imaginable can be found, video games to lego to pick and mix. Hamley's have it all. If you're unable to visit them in person, you can buy all their gear on line so visit their website. Located on Regents Street, take the tube to Oxford Circus and walk south bound for about 5 minutes and your there. 4 out of 5 stars as they are all recommended retail prices. read more

Before we had our own wee one, we went by Hamleys to shop for a gift. We, not being parents, thought we would quickly pick up a toy and move along. We were truly naive to the massive expanse that is this store- and the time it takes to navigate it. We were shocked when we actually had fun in the store. That was last year. Now we have had our own son and although he is still very young, we plan to return regularly. I would say this place is absolutely worth a visit. My advice would be to plan for a lengthy trip- no quick ins and outs are all that realistic here. Still loads of fun can be had. read more

A fantastic place to buy a present for a child that they might keep forever and can say they got it from Hamleys. It is a fun morning or afternoon treat with the kids but beware at one point or more you WILL hear Mommy, Daddy..oh but pwwweaase ...it is every childs dream come true in this store. The store for the adult kids could do with being a little bigger, not even at peak seasons it is literally crammed with people, tourist and ankle biters so it can be hard to navigate so keep hold of your children! Toys toys toys! what more can I say. I defy anyone, no matter how old to walk past Hamleys on Regent street and not be temped to venture in. This delicious toy store grabs you the second you enter the building, with toy piggy's trotting around under your feet, airborne planes whizzing past your ears and over excited children/adults loosing control there is a wonderful coas all around you. awesome toy store, with ample demonstrations to keep the children's eyes popping out on sticks. you'll need a few hours to really have a good look around, customer service is really good. bought my daughter a fairly cheap toy and on arrival at home, found it was broken, rang the store, not only did they refund me but they paid for the postage back and sent me a new one! howz that then for service! a great place for bringing on the tantrums! we really liked it here! This is really as much of a tourist destination as a shop. There are much better places to take your kids in London . but then again they will love it!! Five floors of toys of every conceivable kind. If your kid wants it and even if they've never heard of it, it will be here. Big kids will love it too. It does have some cheap toys but generally Hamleys does not compete on price and you may pay more here. However, Hamleys is an experience and one your kids will want to tick off on their life list. But avoid at Xmas - it's mad! read more
