This was My first time here and on a mild May Day as soon as I encountered there was a strong smell and the lobby and hallway all felt damp meaning high humidity air. Once I got to my room and unpacked I noted the refrigerator wasn't working . So I headed back to the lobby and they were able to get me a new working one shortly. The AC in the room worked but barely . It appears to be an old property that was given a facelift but not the mechanical systems . They staff was great but the property needs some attention. My room had a foul order that smelled like raw sewerage. I became physically ill minutes after entering our room. We had reserved two nights, but had to leave the morning following the first night. Just couldn't take the stinky smell. Looks like I'll just lose my money due to their cancellation policy. Please, do not book here. Also, watch out for online deception. I was certain that I had called Hampton's number directly, but it turned out to be a third party reservation service, so I couldn't receive my Hilton Honors discount. This hotel has just about ruined my entire 3 day stay in Carbondale, IL. My heart goes out to members of the staff. All of them seem to be great and caring people. I stayed for 21 Days, over paid for poor conditions including spider infestations bugs covered my door crawled into my room, dangerous Spiders, trash and dirty linen not removed when requested several times and when I checked out, I was given a zero balance receipt but then this HOTEL from HELL charged me another $318 and my bank charged me $72 in overdraft fees. Find anywhere else other than Hampton Inn. They have some very fine employees but some very bad ones too and No Manager on duty, absentee Owner and Corporate is as dishonest as this place! read more

Warning! This property regularly has a strong smell of raw sewage (staff has stated the smell happens multiple times a week and has been going on over a year). Enough to gag and get into your mouth. The staff has stated it's an issue with the city sewer line and the city has to come flush the pipes to clear out the smell (but regularly ignore the request). The staff are amazing and accommodating, but for a Hilton property charging Hilton rates, gagging on a smell of raw sewage isn't acceptable. If you want to stay here, know there is a strong possibility you will smell raw sewage at some point. And since the problem has gone on over a year with no solution, it is a safe bet it won't be fixed anytime soon. The staff have been amazing and the rooms are clean and modern. It's just hard to enjoy or relax if your room smells like an outhouse. read more

The entire hotel smells like urine and sewage. It would be understandable if this was in only room. However, it is the entire hotel. We've already switched rooms once. I checked to see if they had vacancy at 3:00 pm on 1/6/25 and was informed they had rooms available. I made a reservation at 3:40 and received a confirmation number. I left my residence at 5:30pm and arrived at 8:30 to a hotel clerk who was less than helpful and stated my reservation was canceled by the booking agency. Contacted the booking agency who stated that the hotel canceled the reservation due to a power outage as I am standing there in a hotel lobby with the lights on. A bunch of finger pointing then proceeded with me not having a place to stay and with a hotel clerk that was less than helpful by not even checking other hotels around. I have stayed at this hotel 3 weeks out of the year for the last 13 years and this is the worst experience I have ever had. Lodger beware, even with a reservation confirmed you may not have a room when you arrive and do not expect courteous service from the staff. read more

I checked into the hotel late. The guest service was really nice. My room was already selected I completed online check in hours before I arrived so they would know what time to expect me. The room was nice, updated and clean. The breakfast was good, Continental with hot items like oatmeal, eggs, potatoes, and ham. I'm glad I was able to stay here. read more

I booked a king room with a walk in shower since my husband has had a stroke and stepping over a tub is difficult. I checked in on the app and all looked to be fine. We arrived and the room that we checked into was out of service because of a crack in the shower. Not only was the room we had checked into not available, I was unsure if any room was going to be available. We were finally given a queen room with a tub shower. No apology for the issue although I shared the safety concern this posed. The next day I spoke with the Manager regarding the situation. Matt was the manager and he seemed very kind and concerned and told me he would see if there was something that could be done to help with service recovery. He never followed up although I attempted to follow up with him. Clearly service is not a concern for this hotel and I am shocked that the Hilton name is on this hotel. I am a diamond member for life and no consideration was given for the loyalty shown to the Hilton brand. Additionally, our room had flying bugs in it so needless to say, we will not be back. read more

I had the pleasure of staying at this location over the weekend, and I'm glad I did. I had never been to Carbondale before, so I didn't know anything about the town. The front desk staff was very courteous and helpful and helped me to find a gym and food. My room was spacious and super comfortable. The bed was amazing! I was upset that I only booked one night after getting into the bed. I was happy to see a really nice workspace that I was able to use after my show. Everything was great, and I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in town. Hampton Inn has made me a customer for life. read more

Stayed one night and checked out this morning with a co worker while here on business today. The hotel interior decor is very dated. The halls felt like a motel. Musty and old. The attendant at the front did great as far as checking each of us in our rooms. I was given a handicap accessible room (I am not handicapped, nor did I put a preference for or request a room like this). I didn't request a different room but very well could have. It would have been a shame if someone in need needed that toom specifically. As mentioned in my previous hotel reviews, it's pretty easy to satisfy me as far as a hotel and hotel room. Cleanliness and updated is all. The bathroom felt a bit grungy...the ramp leading into the shower was unappealing. I saw a few long strands of hair on the showet floor. Overall I was unimpressed. It was a touch underneath average and I would have given at least 2.5 stars if I could. I wasn't appalled or disgusted but was just disappointed. Usually even Hampton Inn's do better than this. read more

After being stuck waiting at Lambert airport for a few hours, I was more than happy to check into a hotel. Carbondale, Il was not my number one destination to visit, but I was glad to see there was at least a Hampton in town. I like the familiarity of Hilton brand hotels. Booked online and got a pretty good deal for a King size with whirlpool. Not a huge fan of whirlpools, but the upgrade was worth it for the spaciousness of the room. Room was clean and tastefully decorated for a hotel room. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Didn't take advantage of the pool, but nice that they had one. read more

Stayed from June 14 - 15 The hotel has been freshly renovated (or it might be newer, I'm not sure) with on trend materials. Very Farmhouse meets Industrial. So snaps for that, because a lot of hotels are still rocking the early 90's vibe. The pool was small, but clean and the kids had a blast. We probably spent 3 or 4 total hours there between our two days. The breakfast was good and plentiful, everything was spotlessly clean in the serving area. The beds were comfy and the rooms seemed to be clean, so no problems there. Four major issues: The weird sliding barn door that covers the closet on one side and the bathroom on the other. What the heck is that? Especially when ours was not installed on level, so it didn't stay closed when covering the bathroom, and didn't stay open when covering the closet. It just kind of sat in the middle of both doorways, making you bump it to the side to get access to either. That was a HUGE pain, although I'm not sure changing rooms would have helped. The second issue is the tile in the bathroom area. It's allows water to puddle up and create slipping issues. And it doesn't dry up unless you use ALL the hotel towels to help it along. Creating the THIRD issue: Nothing dries in this hotel room. I realize hotel rooms are notoriously damp, but I've never stayed in a room where I left the kids' swimsuits over the AC unit with the fan running full blast all night, and woken up to still damp swimsuits. Like I said, dampness is a usual hotel issue, but maybe they should look into some dehumidifying systems before they get a mold problem. Last issue: The stupid key cards were not working well. And not just in our room, you had to use the key card in the hallway to the pool and to get into the pool. I had to get 4 new key cards and we were only at the hotel for a total of 18 hours. The night clerk was on point and always sitting there, ready to help out, but when they day time clerk got there, she seemed to be always walking away from the desk. At one point, the "helping other guests" sign was up, but she came out of the breakfast serving area with a plate of food. Probably stood there for about 7 minutes in damp swimsuits trying to get a working key card to get back into our hotel room. Maybe switch the day and night clerks? It's not a bad hotel, but fact is, it's one of the more expensive ones in the area and it seems like if they'd just work out the few little quirks they have, it would be the best one and worth the money. read more

Very accessible hotel with close and ample parking. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. The breakfast bar had many choices: hot items (burritos), oatmeal, toast, pastries, fruit, and yogurt. They also have breakfast bags to go at the front desk if you're in a hurry. read more

This place was a disappointment. Everything felt unclean. Numerous flies swarmed the desk as we checked in. I cannot prove that the sheets weren't clean, but they lacked the freshly-washed feel that one expects from a hotel in this price range. The same thing with the in-room desk: there was no obvious dirt, only a slight stickiness. On the plus side, the water pressure was good and the free breakfast was passable. read more

This is 1000 times better than the Marion Hampton Inn. The lobby is really cool and a nice place to hang out/work. I will note that the TV in the lobby only offers around 5 channels, but you can squeeze a streaming stick in the TV (with some difficulty) to watch other things. The rooms are nice and the suites are very nice for the market. The breakfast nook is better than most. They also have a large "shop" with snacks and drinks for purchase. The fitness center is very small and cramped, but they offer Gold's Gym passes upon request. I would stay here over the Holiday Inn located next door. read more

This hotel is roomy, clean and the beds were comfortable. The coffee was brewed perfectly. Your room comes with a frig, microwave, gym and indoor pool. The walls are well insulated so you get a good nights sleep if your neighbors are noisy. Lots of restaurants in the area so you are in a great location. I stayed here in June for business. The night I checked in, a big storm (think tornadoes to our north) came through the area, and knocked out power to a large part of town, so we wound up losing power from about 10 that night til 6 or so the next morning. The hotel staff handled it calmly, and went door to door, telling people not to panic, that they could come down to the lobby if they'd like and grab a flashlight. The next morning, they were offering refunds to people that wanted them, so that was cool. The continental breakfast each morning was hot and filling, and they did a good job of keeping the coffee full all day. The beds were very comfortable, like sleeping on a cloud, and housekeeping did a good job keeping the rooms clean. Wifi was decent, for the most part. The indoor pool was closed for maintenance while I was there, so I didn't get to try that. The hotel is located a little bit outside of town, so you'll have to drive if you want something to eat. There was a restaurant one parking lot over, but I didn't try it, so I don't know the name. I'd probably stay here again if I was in the area. Hilton does lose points with me though, because they won't give you any points under their frequent stay program if your stay is billed to a corporate account. Marriott doesn't do that. But, that's not a beef against this place, just Hilton in general. read more

The service we experienced was pretty nice and i don't have anything negative to say in that aspect. The rooms were clean and looked decent, had a mini fridge and decent tv. Decent bathroom too. The $102 price per night was definitely not worth it. The amenities are too minimal to consider it fair priced. It seems more like they know they can get away with it with all the vineyards and the college in the area. The pool is tiny. The "fitness room" needs to be renamed as it is the size of a big bathroom and contains 2 cardio machines and nothing else. read more

I don't feel safe at this hotel. During three nights of my four night stay, I experienced problems with my electronic room key. Each time I went to the front desk for a new keycard. I know keycards are unreliable and are prone to failure at any hotel, so my concern is not with them. The VERY big problem is that on these three different occasions, none of the three desk attendants asked to see any ID before issuing a new keycard. They simply asked my room number and handed me new keys. I COULD HAVE GONE INTO ANY ROOM AND ANYONE ELSE COULD HAVE GONE INTO MINE. If you stay here use the chain lock and deadbolt - the staff sure isn't looking out for your safety. read more

Very nice stay. Clean, updated, large room and a nicely appointed lobby and business center. The lobby seating area includes a nice, large table with outlets for your devices along the edge. Very clever! The staff is friendly and efficient. Best of all, there's no smoking anywhere! Since bathrooms are important, I should add the water pressure was good, no shortage of hot water either. Loved the fact they have Neutragena products since my skin is sensitive. The shower curtain has a clear panel near the top so you can see what's happening while you're in the shower (no psycho moments)! My only complaint is that like many hotels, the air flow in the bathroom does not allow moisture to clear so the mirror is fogged over and the floor is slick (there is no auxiliary fan). Otherwise, this is a great reasonably priced hotel. read more
